I am over the moon with this machine. Perfect features for what I need. Great robust machine and very good quality. I had to return a brother due to a fault and exchanged for hobbycraft own make, however I decided to upgrade to a Singer...will never have anything but Singer now. Hobbycraft have so much customer care and their staff have always been so helpful and willing to please. The sewing surgeries are such a good idea. 5 stars hobbycraft X

This machine is good for all round simple sewing. It is light in weight and does what is needed. Easy to sew with once you have got it threaded. I am a senior citizen now, and my eyesight not so good, but have sewn since I was a child. My mother used to sew and taught me. This machine has changed a lot from the old heavy metal ones, and from my point, not for the better. I find it very difficult to put the bottom spool in as everytime I try to put it in place with my rheumaticy fingers the spool falls out of the holder as I am trying to get it centred in the slot for it. Don`t know why they changed it from the top drop in one that you just has to pull the thread out. Also have difficulty trying to raise the thread from spool to get it on top as it doesn`t always ... MoreThis machine is good for all round simple sewing. Also have difficulty trying to raise the thread from spool to get it on top as it doesn`t always come out first time and I have problems with seeing it under the machine foot and easing the small loop out. Another problem is that the needle hole faces front (my old one was sideways) and I can`t get my needle threader to work as there is no room to push it through from the back, so it takes some time to finally get it threaded manually. One last point is that the foot pedal is made of extremely light and plasticy material and it keeps travelling all over my tiled floor and I am forever fishing for it with my foot to bring it back into place. All that being said, I am extremely happy with the finished results, even though it takes me much longer to do.

I bought a much cheaper machine and returned it deciding to stick to a name I knew and trusted. I am an absolute beginner and this machine is so easy to set up and use. I haven’t yet tried all the different stitch settings so cannot comment on them but I’m certainly pleased with the variety. I had already purchased a bag to keep it in as I don’t have the space to leave it set up. I’m sure if I had the cover that comes with it would be in constant use.Currently the only downside, which would have been helpful to know before I started my project, was the stitching would come out dirty (oil as it’s new) It didn’t take long to clear so no big deal. Also I will have to look online to know a) how to clean it and b) what and where to re oil.Time runs away with me ... MoreI bought a much cheaper machine and returned it deciding to stick to a name I knew and trusted. Great replacements
13 January 2022

Half way through a quite complicated sewing job, my 22 year old sewing machine 'died". I went straight to hobbycraft, knowing they had the replacement I wanted in stock. What was so nice and unusual, was the level of help I recieved. One member of staff carried the sewing machine down to the checkout for me and the other young lady carried it to my car for me. It is hard to describe how appreciated offered help is to a disabled person.. Both these ladies were helpful, please and engaging and won't be forgotten by me, for their kindness. Thank you ladies.

Great starter machine
23 September 2020

This is a great beginners machine. Well engineered and reliable. It came with a good range of accessories and there a lots more easily available. It's easy to use, has a good range of stitches and I think it will be great for a wide range of projects.Although the manual could be little more detailed, Singer have lots of excellent tutorial videos available on line. The cover is disappointingly flimsy, but I am planning to use it as a template to sew a new one!A good buy for beginners or casual sewers.

Really easy to use and a great next step from the Midi
26 December 2021

I was brand new to sewing and used the Hobbycraft Midi Machine for a couple of months making face masks, bunting, and dog bandanas. I wanted something with a little more power and was looking at the Singer Promise, and the Singer 3223. I decided I didn't need the extra stitches offered by the 3223 so settled on the Promise. This machine is fantastic. It is so simple to set up, use, and re-thread, and it is noticeably more powerful than the Midi.I have been able to make a bag and cushion cover with this machine, and it powered through multiple layers of fabric with no issue. It offers touch sensitive speeds through the pedals, and has an inbuilt light. I don't find it particularly noisy, and whilst heavier than the Midi, it's light enough to carry around.I'm so ... MoreI was brand new to sewing and used the Hobbycraft Midi Machine for a couple of months making face masks, bunting, and dog bandanas. Several problems
31 January 2022

In the first 6 days, I have broken 3 machine needles. I have City & Guilds qualifications as well as a degree in Textiles along with over 50 years experience of using sewing machines and in that time I have broken only a couple of needles. Other problems experienced with this machine include the upper thread breaking and the lower thread jamming several times. All the previous reviews were glowing and my reason for buying it. As this was bought for my granddaughter, I thought it wise to try it out before giving it to her. I’m so relieved that I did this.I’m still trying it out for a few more days before either returning it to the shop or sorting out the reason for these problems myself. It’s a lovely machine and would be ideal for a novice so I’m really disappointed.

This sewing machine is so easy to use. I followed the manual to the letter and I had no problems sewing. Very happy with it and recommend it to novice as well as experienced sewers.

Unfulfilled Promise
14 November 2023

Sorry but I'm regretting buying this sewing machine. The first one had to be changed as the tension wasn't working & the stitches could be pulled out easily. The second machine has now stopped working. The needle no longer goes down, irrespective of whether the bobbin is in or not.

Well-pleased!

I had been having trouble with my old machine - actually thought it was me and that I had lost my sewing ‘knack’ after many years of not sewing. Bought this ex-display model in desperate attempt to finish my new curtains, without too much hope. It arrived speedily, was very easy to set up (love the simple threading procedure) and so easy to use that sewing has become my new passion instead of a hated challenge!I cannot see anything that shows it is ex-display and not brand-new - maybe there might have been more polythene wrappings if it had been new, that’s all. My only problem was that the English version of the user manual was missing.
