After enjoying The Orient Express mystery puzzle by Bepuzzled that I received as a gift, I bought this one. This one was a let down from my initial experience. I elected not to read the lengthy15 pg story booklet until after putting it together. It wouldn't have made a difference because either a) reading the mystery first or b) completing the puzzle first would have done nothing to help solve the mystery or complete the puzzle. The puzzle as a whole is rather dark and pieces are very glossy- hard to see subtle color differences depending on the lighting. The enjoyment of doing jigsaw puzzles was lacking in this one.

I enjoyed this puzzle. One of the big challenges was putting together the puzzle without any idea of what the picture looked like. It was fun to read the story and then put the puzzle together to solve it. I'll be honest, I had the mystery figured out before I put the puzzle together, so I knew what to look for in the scene but I think it would have been much more difficult to figure out the mystery from the puzzle. I also had one piece that had separated from the backing, but I just glued it back together and it seemed fine. I will be trying more of these puzzles.

Received within a couple of days. Just in time to include as part of a gift I was giving someone who likes Sherlock Holmes. I didn’t open it since it was a gift but the box was very nice looking and I’m sure they will like it. The outside of the box says the photo on the box does not show what the completed puzzle looks like, it’s a mystery 😃

I was skeptical when we first open the box. For starters, there is no image to guide you to the solution of this puzzle. But the quality of the puzzle, its design, and the layout and picture quality of the pieces, made this a lot of fun to solve. We "cheated" and found an image online to help us. In the end, we finished it in a couple of days and it presented an addictive and fun pastime. We have passed it along to friends with the solution picture as back-up should they need it.
I find myself becoming rather addicted to jigsaws that have a little more about them than just putting pieces together and the Murder Mystery style format is perfect. Read the story, complete the jigsaw without the aid of a picture, just using the clues from the scene set by the story and then solve the mystery. Great fun and a sense of accomplishment when the full picture reveals itself in the jigsaw.
If family hadn't been here to pitch in over Thanksgiving, I would never have finished this very, very dark nightmare of a puzzle. As advertised, the photo of this "mystery puzzle" was not on the box. The mystery itself was good. But the solution (in the completed puzzle) was nearly impossible to identify. I won't spoil it, but will simply explain that the item looked like something other than what it was.
Fun mystery in a box. I've been working on a different one for a couple weeks, just pick up a few pieces a day. Its challenging without a picture to go by but that is part of the mystery. Reading the story will give you some clues as to what you may find in the picture. Im looking forward to the Sherlock Holmes puzzle next. No spoilers here.
Really enjoyed doing this puzzle. It was challenging enough but made workable with the different shaped pieces (the killers are those with same-shaped pieces). Took us a few days of reasonable focus over Christmas. These mystery puzzles are our favorites, and I usually get a kick out of the (usually short) little mysteries, the solution to which is to be found in the finished puzzle. We especially liked the puzzles with dead bodies in them, or bloody weapons (lol). But this mystery is so long, I never actually got around to reading it--15 pages of fairly tight font. I take it that it's based on the original Conan Doyle mystery, which I don't remember ever having read, so maybe I'll get around to it one of these days. But the puzzle itself, thumbs up.
SooooI was hoping it was like the description stated, Sherlock Holmes and the speckled band is more than a jigsaw puzzle - it's a mystery waiting to be solved. First, you must read the included booklet and learn of the mysterious Death at stoke Moran Manor house. Next, assemble the puzzle and uncover hidden clues to solve the mystery. But basically what it is, is this. You read the first part of the Sherlock Holmes story. Then you put together the jigsaw puzzle. The picture on the box is not what you are putting together (that part is ok). You do not have any picture to look at to put together the jigsaw puzzle. That makes it challenging, but I like jigsaws so it was ok. Then you try and figure out the mystery given whats on the puzzle. If you have already read that particular Sherlock, then you already know the ending. If you have not, well I would not have ever come up with the ending given the puzzle (I wont say more because I dont want to give anything away). Maybe some super smart people could. Then you read the last part of Sherlocks story. If I would have known this was just a Sherlock based puzzle with no picture, I would not have bought it. But since we did, we put it together. The puzzle itself is a good quality puzzle. All the pieces were accounted for. But I dont see how you could solve the mystery given the puzzle. I was disappointed.
We have completed similar puzzles before, which is what lead to this purchase. There is no picture to help you complete the puzzle and a printed booklet with a story that coincides with the completed scene. The goal is to complete the puzzle, read the booklet and use the combination to solve the mystery. The solution is supposed to be printed in reverse in the back of the booklet, to deter cheaters. However, our booklet did not have the solution backwards. It was written in regular text and only had very small words on the top of the page that directed the reader to hold the page to the mirror to read it. Again, our text was not in reverse! So, the puzzle was spoiled. We read the solution unknowingly from the beginning. I guess the quality department missed ours.
