Shimano's Direct Mount compatible Rear Derailleur system gives more space around the rear frame dropout resulting in easier rear wheel removal but also allows frame designers to shorten chain stays, increase axel sizes and move suspension pivots. Shadow Dyna-Sys11 11-speed rear derailleur delivers reliable and precise shifting with a stiff and lightweight open design. The Shadow features a super low profile design that reduces the risk of damage from trail side hazards. The shadow plus chain stabilizer tension can easily be adjusted externally via a hex key. Shadow Plus uses a chain stabilising switch that when on will reduce chain bounce in rough terrain maintaining more stable drive and shifting. This can be switched off to remove the wheel. Direct cable routing prevents snagging from any trail side hazards. I'm using this derailleur on my gravel bike instead of the more pricey GRX and, if you're into brisk riding over rutted terrain, I would absolutely recommend this (with a JTek shiftmate 8A).The only not excellent thing is: if you're using a 42 teeth largest sprocket the shift out of this gear is somewhat laborious. Consider using a 40 instead.This is not the case for a comparable, but more expensive, XT RD-M8000.~~~3500 km update: I solved the issue shifting out of the 42 teeth sprocket by servicing (abundantly greasing) the clutch and reducing the preload on it --it is possible to do so: you have to open the casing.Still, behind the same JTek adapter and using the same R7000 STIs, this mech performs significantly less than the XT RD-M8000.

I have made a habit of going with Shimano XT on all my recent builds, but after feeling how well the SLX shifted on my sons bike, I elected to grab one of these for a 3rd bike project to save some $. Love it! Feels every bit as smooth as the XT. Very happy with the purchase.

Great replacement for my old XT rear mech as the clutch mechanism had gone in both of the ones I had. Good price and prompt delivery too.
It's great how the technology and design from Shimano's high end ranges ends up in the budget tech as well. This rear mech is a great design and works exceptionally well. Comparing it with 6800 series Ultegra, the mech is smoother in operation, has a more linear cable pull which makes it easier to set up, and the cable run is much better, which will lead to less cable wear.
Fantastic replacement for broken deore. Put on a 10spd 11-50t cassette and working great with lower end saint 10spd shifter. Shifting is smooth and easy and no compatibility issues with 10spd components and 11spd derailleur. Also no need for hanger extension with 11spd slx and the big pie plate 50t cassette. Delivery from Cambria was as expected and was packaged well so no damage to part.
Not as expensive as the XT mech but a lot better quality than the straight Deore version. Very happy with the price and speedy delivery.
Good quality shimano parts. Always works especially as these parts get older, quick adjustment and it keeps going.
Bought this for a second bike to swap rear wheels to share the same 11 speed 46T cassette. Worked perfect with minimal adjustments. Clutch is great!
