Before I bought these, I'd always worn a pair of Converse Chuck T's for cycling in. I bought a new road bike with 'proper' pedals so I had to find a pair of shoes to match. I expected a breaking in period - it wasn't needed. Straight out of the box these were comfortable. I've been out in them 3 or 4 times now - they do the job really well for the price point. Definitely a good entry level shoe to get used to cleats for the first time.I would advise before your first ride in them, if you've never worn cleats before, 30 mins spent leaning against a wall attaching and undoing from the pedals will be well spent.

Purchased my wife a pair of Shimano RP1 Road Cycling Shoes (her first pair of such shoes) and initially ordered the wrong size. No hassle, efficient returns process was very impressive, especially given the current challenging environment.

Bought these as my first experiment going clipless (and paired them with the MEC WPD-M17C Clipless Pedals w/2-hole SPD cleats).Even though others have said these shoes need an adapter to work with SPD cleats, I've had no problem using them without the adapter plate (mind you walking in the shoes with cleats without the adapter is dicey). Was afraid of ordering online but found the size just right (wear shoes that are US 11, 11.5, and 12 depending on brand; ordered these in size 47).Still early days (i.e. < 100km) but very happy.

OK, so I purchase a Nishiki Maricopa Road Bike which I love...Been riding for a few months. Before this I only knew that I enjoyed cycling now I can't do with out. Now my wife purchased some Shimano Dynalast RP1 shoes. They look great and fit perfectly, the problem is they didn't come with cleats I after doing some research I'm even more lost. How do I know which cleats do I need, adapter, no adapter, clip-in, no clip...I though the hardest thing was to know how to ride the bike but, just knowing if I even have the right shoes can be confusing. Does anyone have any suggestions, I am not a competitive cyclists but. I do enjoy riding with friends. Do I even need these shoes and now that I have them should I get a 2 bolt or 3 bolt cleat.....helps....any comments good ... MoreOK, so I purchase a Nishiki Maricopa Road Bike which I love...Been riding for a few months. I just bought these shoes for year-round commuting and took them back to MEC after less than one use. Even though they’re supposed to be compatible with SPD cleats, I was unable to clip out, as bolts inside the shoes pivoted with my feet as I tried to do so. Then I read the instructions. It turns out you need an adaptor to use these with SPD cleats. These shoes don’t come with an adaptor, or cleats. The adaptor is not cheap and MEC doesn’t sell it (or mention it in the ad for this shoe). I was also frustrated by the sizing. I wear a US size 10.5 and my last bike shoe, a Mavic, was EU size 44. For this shoe I could only fit in to a size 46, which lists as being US size 11.2. Even size 45 was too small, even though it equates to US size 10.5. I’ll be trying the MTB ... MoreI just bought these shoes for year-round commuting and took them back to MEC after less than one use. Ive only ever used the SH-51 cleats and these, of course, support those. The EU sizing is a little weird. These fit ok, but I couldve gone one size larger. Nonetheless, these are well designed and well made.
I'm a newcomer to clip-in shoes and purchased these two-bolt and three-bolt compatible cleats in anticipation of maybe switching to SPD-SL cleats in the future. However I had the same issues as Al2018 in that you need a pontoon adapter (SM-SH40 - sold separately, not through MEC) to properly use SPD cleats, and that the sizing is a bit on the small side. Before installing the cleats I returned and exchanged for the Shimano ME1s a size larger and have had no issues.I would recommend MEC add a disclaimer about these being two-bolt compatible out of the box, as there is no information to tell people otherwise until the shoes have been purchased and you realize that things aren't working like they are supposed to.
Bought new cycling shoes for my trip in Europe to retrace my Grandfather's WWII route. I have never had a less comfortable pair of shoes on my feet. My toes were pinched horribly. Both of my big toenails turned black from blood caused by the pinching. Utterly horrid to walk in. I had to change shoes every time I stopped if I wanted to walk at all. No matter how hard I tightened the cleats, they slipped and turned, making getting in and out of the pedals a nightmare. Lord knows how many times I banged my shins. One of my pedals actually broke off in Paris, likely from all of the times I had to fight to clip in. The funny thing is, I have another pair of Shimano shoes that have carried me across the US. Twice. Yet somehow this pair that is 20 years newer were this ... MoreBought new cycling shoes for my trip in Europe to retrace my Grandfather's WWII route. Shimano, go back to old school before you hurt someone! These shoes really took a lot away from a wonderful experience. I should have stayed with my old shoes for sure.
These are my first spin shoes. They are great and I really like being able to do both clips. They are super light weight compared to my wife’s. I really like the toe room. Fit really well
great pair of cycling shoes, a 1/2 size up over a regular shoe size as they are snug and slim.using it with a spin bike - and no dramas, remember to purchase cleats - forgot to check when i order.good service - as it was accidentally on backorder but support got it rushed over when it came in.
