Shimano SH-RC902 S-Phyre Road Shoes - White - 45

(265 reviews)

The flagship of Shimano racing shoes in the classic white color. The shoe has been given a technological overhaul that makes it even stiffer, but still more comfortable than its predecessor. The shoe comes with BOA Fit Li2 tensioning system, replaceable heel pads and Shimano's Dynalast fit. Shimano has used their stiffest carbon fiber sole, which optimizes the shoe's power transfer into the pedals, and makes the rider's accelerations faster than before. Extra comfort is achieved in the buckle system with a newly developed "wrap" function on the upper buckle that goes in and buckles around the shoe, and provides additional support on the foot, all the way around the outsole. The shoe weighs 235 grams.

Fantastic shoe, just needs Lots of trial and error to dial in the fit Not as good as the previous model 901 IMO which i purchased here and tried this model out through Mantel. My 2nd phalange joint, 2 toe, rubs on the stiffer material, where a front Velcro strap would be but the shape now gives more support so your toes aren't flapping upwards. Not a problem i have with SIdi, Fizik or spezialized but a result of the flat Dynalast. An already snug fit in the mid sole width of 901 is now tighter, and the heel is super grippy but i think that would be a gewöhnheits thing. Mantel's guide is a good start for fitting size. they tend to give about 3or 4 mm extra as what you need so the shimano tend to be a a half size shorter than specialized, or FZIK so a 47 in ... MoreFantastic shoe, just needs Lots of trial and error to dial in the fit Not as good as the previous model 901 IMO which i purchased here and tried this model out through Mantel. I take SIdi 48 (2010 model)and these S-phyres have more room in size 48 in toe box.i can fit a 47 in Specialized or R1 FIzik (JUST) Dynalast: Jeez are they flat!!! what that means however is a better peddling action getting over top dead center. however the bigtoe does tend to work more, and be prepared for a lot of trial and error with the Insole, which with the 2 height inserts are significantly better than FIZIK or Spezialized. I ended up adding a little to the toe are of the Insole to give a little bit more curve, punched holes for breathing, and fashioned a proper metatarsal button, and used specialized Vagus wedges ( Orange) to increase the supination. As I said they are the flattest but the power transer is really very good. be also prepared for calf pains ( went away) and hotspots till you get a decent button fitted. They are a bit 'Road Buzzy' but moving the cleats back and forth did help and sanding the Insole underneath my right Big toe (like with Solestar)reduced the Buzz a tad more that i was feeling there. Great shoe, but give time for dialing in, hense 4 stars . Hope that helps you in your decision making!

I'm usually reluctant to write reviews, but these shoes are hands-down the most comfortable cycling shoes I've ever worn. I've been riding and racing for 30+ years, and I've tried a variety of shoes. In the last year, I started having some issues with my foot and no shoe I tried seemed to solve the problem. So I bit the bullet and tried the S-Phyre at the recommendation of a friend. First ride out, just a 20 miler, and I could feel these were different. 400+ miles later and I can state, without reservation, these are the most comfortable shoes I've ever ridden in. Thanks to the customer service at bikeshoes.com for their unwavering support and help. Awesome all round!

I was never fortunate enough to experience the previous model of the S-Phyre's so I can't comment on the differences between the two. However, having spent time and money on a couple of other cheaper models, inc. the Shimano RC5's whilst trying to find a decent pair of shoes, I have no qualms about stating that you get what you pay for here. Before purchasing these, I used and still do use, a pair of Giro Empire lace ups, which are very comfortable. But, I wanted something to use on the road and regularly on the turbo, and not have to spend time doing up and undoing the laces, plus have something that I can tweak whilst on the bike should the pressure build up or the shoe feel loose.I guess I have 'normal width' feet as these feel ok to me, e.g. my feet don't ... MoreI was never fortunate enough to experience the previous model of the S-Phyre's so I can't comment on the differences between the two. I'm normally a size 9 (eu43) in a trainer or normal shoe, and ordered a size eu44 for this road shoe. It fits just fine, with enough wriggle room. The fact that it has two BOA dials that can be tightened or loosened without having to start from scratch, allows for that fine tuning once you've been riding for 20 mins or so and your feet begin to react with the heat/cold/pressure etc.Unlike the RC5, they're easy to get on and off. They come with an additional arch support for those with a deeper arch, and also a bag to keep them as they should be. I didn't get on with the RC5's. As a few others stated in reviews, the single top BOA dial didn't allow for that tuning, and I got pressure points across the top of my foot. The S-Phyre's also have the option for replaceable heels, the RC5's were moulded as one.Would I normally spend £300+ on a pair of road shoes? No. Did I feel like I needed to, to get what I wanted? Yes. Do I have any complaints about doing so with these? Nope.Would recommend.

Exceptional Fit and Finish
3 May 2021

Based on some of the previous reviews regarding the fit of the shoes, I was somewhat hesitant to purchase these shoes. I am so glad that I did though. I will agree that the toe box of the shoes definitely seem more narrow than the Fiziks that these are replacing. I actually spent hours wearing them on carpet (with no discomfort or numbness ) before even installing cleats. I have since put on a few hundred miles with them and are very happy with my purchase. After some time spent in the shoes, I have some things to share.First, they are one of the most ventilated and cool shoes to wear in hot weather that I've ever had. There is exceptional ventilation on both the top with micro perforations as well as vents on the bottom as well. In fact, if you position your foot correctly when coasting you can actually feel the air through the bottom of the shoes on your toes and heel. The BOA adjustments are positioned perfectly with micro adjustments possible for both the top and front of your feet. The shoes also feature a small piece neoprene at the top of the younger that makes them feel comfortable out of the box with zero break in time. Finally, the carbon soles are Uber Stiff - probably the most solid shoes I have ever ridden. Every ounce of effort you put into pedaling helps move you forward. I ordered the black with the purple writing. A small sidenote is that the S-phyre font is made of a color shift paint. It can range from purple to navy to lavender depending on the angle and the light. It is actually a super cool feature and (somewhat matches my bike which is an added bonus), looks great. Take the plunge - You'll be happy that you did!

High Quality Shoes
13 December 2021

Bonafide upgrade vs. my Specialized Expert Road shoes which have a carbon fibre sole are very good in their own right. The S-Phyres are materially stiffer, and it makes a difference. I noticed this on my indoor trainer, where any given resistance level seemed more manageable. I believe the snug fit also contributes to this. The wrap around design with 2 Boa dials is superior to the 1 Boa dial and velcro strap system on my expert road shoes. I found the sizing to be a bit small and opted to go up a size to 44 to be on the safe side. If 43.5 was available, this would have been perfect. Not an issue since my foot is a touch on the wide side, and the 2 Boa dials more than make up for a half size too big. Very happy with these shoes and highly recommend!!

First, James Huang does a great write up on these shoes over at Cycling Tips, and I feel like it is spot on.My Foot is average, maybe just a tad wider than average. I wear a US 9 in Vans, Nike, pretty much all shoes and a 43 in pretty much all cycling shoes. In recent history, I have been riding previous generation S-Works, Giro Empire, Giro Factor, Sidi Shot, FiveTen Kestrel BOA and the First Generation of the Shimano S-PHYRE XC 9, the Cross Country shoe. Pointing back at the Cycling Tips article, which is worth a read, I would say that these new RC 9 shoes are ever so slightly lower volume than my XC 9 shoes in the toe box. They are lightweight and very stiff. Breathability is excellent as well. The new BOA dials are amazing and the shape of the heel cup, holy cow, it locks my foot into the shoe better than any other that I have owned. These shoes are comfy, light, stiff, and look really good. They are my favorite.

I really like these shoes!
24 December 2021

I am puzzled by some of the negative reviews on the S-phyre because I really like these shoes! I bounce back and forth between Sidi and Shimano as I find these two brands fit my narrow foot the best. The fit and quality is excellent and I really like the BOA system, which I believe provides just the right amount of tension for a snug fit. Be careful not to over tighten. My only regret was going to a local shop and paying for custom insoles. Ultimately, I didn?t find much of an improvement over the Shimano insole and could have saved some money. This might have more to do with the shop, but need less to say, the Shimano insole provides a good fit and excellent comfort similar to my last pair of Shimano shoes, I expect many miles of comfortable riding ahead.

Very Nice Shoe
30 October 2022

Really nice road cycling shoe…but expensive, so look for a sale. Great construction and materials are used. Coming from a Velcro and ratchet shoe, I really liked the 2-boa system; it provides finer adjustments with no pressure points and is still really easy to adjust while riding. It comes with a couple of inserts for normal and high arches and also has a couple of grippy sections on the inside at the heel to keep the back of your foot in place. It’s also a pretty stiff and airy shoe and would almost certainly require different socks and/or a cover for non-summer riding. Overall, great!

Very comfortable, true to size
28 January 2023

As a woman with wider feet, I have always found Shimano’s men’s shoes fit me quite well. The toe box is roomy and the shoe wraps around my feet very comfortably. I’ve had no issues with any hot spots and power transfer feels excellent. My only other pair of shimano shoes are the gravel rx8s. In comparison, I would say the fit is similar and I wear the same size for both, but the RX8 actually feels somewhat narrower at the heel.

I ended up with 3 options, Sidi Shot 2, RC902, Fizik R1 (New version)Having had Sidi wire carbon for 5 years, Sidi was the obvious choice however when comparing all 3 the sidi don't look as good IMO and aren't actually white, I also don't like the velcro on the tongue part. Fizik as ever look classy but I felt they were just a little loose, as for the Shimano they look fantastic, fitted the best and won me over. They feel very planted on your feet and have a real good grip on your ankle. I do prefer the Boa than the Sidi system, so much easier to use. Cleat position is great, no need to adjust the top bolt either. All in all for me these new Sphyre shoes are amazing and would highly recommend them but and there is always a but, for a pair of shoes costing £320 and being the top level shoe there is one little niggle, the material that the wraps around your foot. Having tried a pair on after getting off the turbo, I noticed they had marked very easily, Sigma as ever were very good and as I hadn't worn the shoes on the bike accepted them back and replaced them as we deemed it to be a one off, but its not. I have worn my shoes 4 times, only in the dry and not gone through any water and you will see from the pictures how the material has started mark. I accept it's a small thing but what will they be like after a downpour?? I would imagine MvDP and WVA must have a new pair every time they turn up on the start line as after Milan San remo there was no way they would have been white. As I say this is in the only fault for me in them for me and while over time they will get dirty, this was noticeable to me after 1 ride I did consider the red and while a nice colour, they are very much "look at me" also don't come in wide.
