It us silky smooth with an incredible drag system. You can really get out there with costs also. I have mine paired up fith a scheels one series medium/extra fast 7' rod and love it. I use it for all of my rubber set ups. I would not hesitate to buy another.

I'm absolutely shocked at the quality of this reel. Is it smooth when you reel it, yes. BUT the noise is ridiculous. It's not quite when turning it slow, even worse when turning it fast. In no way am I paying this price for l noisy reel. This is obviously why Shimano's older model reels sell for what they do (even used ones), because these new ones are not worth the money. Even the new Shimano "Sustain FJ" is the same way. Just tried one out a couple days ago... They really cheapened these up, throughout the last hand-full or years. My 1998 Shimano 2000 Sustain FA is quieter then this and just as smooth... Unreal!

I have been somewhat dissatisfied with Shimano products the past couple of years. The quality of their reels has deteriorated. They are as solid and smooth as they once were with many reels having a slight wobble now. you have to go to their top of the line to eliminate this where other manufactures like Lews, Abu, Penn, Diawa, and Pflueger manufacture quality mid range reels.

Smooth as butter
18 August 2023

I bought this reel after reading a review from Smallies on the Yough Guide Service. I will be upgrading all my spinning reels to this model before next season. The wide spool makes throwing finesse baits a breeze. The drag is as smooth as butter and perfect for fighting giant susquehanna river smallmouth on light line. You will not be disappointed purchasing this reel from Fishing Online.

Fantastic and beautiful reel! Strangely 2 Shimano Stradic FLs came in the box. I made several phone calls about how this could have - double the weight,2 pulled and placed in one box. I did the right thing! You probably have notes on it. I received a return label and FED X’d it to Bass Pro/Cabela’s in Bossier City, LA. ***Awesome reel for sure!

So Disappointed
23 January 2022

recently lost my favorite Stradic 3000FJ and want to replace it so went to BP to check out the FL. What in the world is Shimano thinking? No reverse lever? Whoever made that decision must not fish. There are plenty of reasons to have a reverse lever so you don't have to open the bail or loosen the drag to take line out. Even worse, the angle of mounting arm that attaches to the rod is such that when you are holding it, it is very uncomfortable, almost as if it were intentionally designed to hurt you as it grinds against the bone of your finger that fits behind it. Guess you have to have small hands and mine are not that out of the ordinary in size. The Vanford is the same way.

Unbelievable Power for such a small package. Bigger is not better ....

I bought the Shimano ST4000XGFL Stradic FL Spinning Reel, thinking I was going to do some inshore fishing off Marathon, mostly inshore in a place we call our honey hole. This is a once a year trip for us, and I paired the 4000 with a Talavera inshore MH rod, with 30lb power pro metered braid. I'll be honest I didn't read the max-drag specs, but did after the trip. This baby performed out of this world. Yeah, the drag is going to sing , and it did on a shark ( I think Lemon), and the biggest porgy I ever saw. I learned a lot from my trip first week of May 2021. Bigger is not always better. Since we were going to the hump, but bought seas so didn't quite make it there, but I had my tuna rig Shimano BaitRunner 12000D with 50lb braid drag set at about 15lb, and I pulled ... MoreI bought the Shimano ST4000XGFL Stradic FL Spinning Reel, thinking I was going to do some inshore fishing off Marathon, mostly inshore in a place we call our honey hole. The next day, we tried the hump, but on the way, we found a boat fuselage floating in the water, so chum chum chum chum. long story short, I caught 4 dolphin and a trigger on the 4000, and now I'm a believer in small Shimano packages. The shark video is cool, but can't upload here

Open Bail and you can still rotate the handle and spool assembly with bail still up.Bail assembly rotates and locks up without tripping bail as with 1000F, 2500 FA or 2500 FB spinning reelsThis will be the last Shimano spinning reel made in Malaysia that I will buy.Had to shim all shimano reels due to loose handles.Had to grease and oil this reel Shimano Stradic 1000hgfl, Shimano Stradic C14 1000F, Shimano Stradic C14+ 2500FA, Shimano Stradic C14+ 3000FA, Shimano Stradic C14+ 2500FB and Shimano Symetre 3000FI. due to lack of proper servicing from factory. It is high time Shimano takes responsibllity and avoid outsourcing their Stradic Reels

Web order 1213181Ordered shimano stradic 2500 hgfl on 16 may 2022 and received 19 may 2022. Great service from TackleDirect. However this reel had a different problem from the shimano stradic 1000 hgfl I reviewed before. This 2500 FL reel made a bearing noise. It had no grease on drive gear at all. The pinion gear had grease on very bottom next to where bottom bearing is located . Also had a huge amount of grease below the pinion gear on the main shaft assembly. Removed the grease from the pinion gear and properly greased the pinion gear and drive gear. Bearing sound greatly reduced. Handle has small amount of play not present in 1000 hgfl reel with only a slight grinding noise on top pinion gear bearing.

The Stradic reel from Shimano is certainly one of the brand's best-known spinning reels. It is sold all over the world with the same commercial success. Its name is associated with quality, robustness and reliability. In fact, even on our premises, it has been exceptional to see Stradic reels returning for after-sales service. This new Stradic FL model is based on the same principles and retains what has made its reputation, while continuing to incorporate the latest technology for even greater fishing pleasure and comfort. You'll be able to count on improved fluidity thanks to micromodule II technology and silent drive. The gears have also been improved with the Hagane concept and the frame has been fitted with X-Protect which makes it virtually watertight, making it easier to use at sea, especially as the drag is also watertight. The spool has been chosen with a large opening to give you ever greater casting distances. All these features give this reel a versatile profile that will suit the search for a wide range of predators, whether in freshwater or at sea. The variety of sizes and ratios will enable you to find the right model for everything from trout fishing to sea fishing with several dozen grams. Shimano has pulled out all the stops to successfully renew one of its flagship reels. The Stradic FL has become a real new spinning reel that you'll enjoy using.
