Been a longtime user of Penn reels but have switched over to Shimano because Penn is made in China and will NOT last, just like all my Penn reels lately. Not wasting anymore time and money replacing parts. Going Shimano now which is NOT made in China and built to last. This Shimano Sahara reel is smooth and works like a high quality reel. Can't go wrong with Japanese or German engineering.

Solid reel. Smooth retrieve and tight drag settings. So happy with it.
At first I thought it was faulty as there were noises and just feeling faulty I was going to return it but upon playing around a bit more it just needed those parts to be lubricated and after about 20mins it started to feel like how it should, smooth and no noises..! But to be totally honest, these bail arm where the rollers are they look extremely weak. Apply bit of force like as if fighting a king and see the flex on them.
It is a very good quality reel but in all honesty if i was buying again id go the Saragosa 5000. I already have the bullet proof Saragosa SW 10000pg which i love to bits. Thought id give the Stradic a shot as pricewise is a level up from the 'Gosa. Have learned that Saragosa use a drag stack above and below the spool, where the Stradic only has drag stack above. Otherwise identical except for colouring and the powerhandle knob on the Stradic. For the Money, id buy the Saragosa over and over again everytime. Nothing against the stradic but i dont see the reason its more expensive. Gosa has nicer drag clicker sound too. Wish the 5000 was available as a PG version instead of XG only. It performs perfectly, smooth rotation, its light weight I absolutely love it, its my third one and my 1st one is now 28 years old and still works great.
Shimano Stradic has a smooth high speed action with huge drag.Anaconda supplied it when other stores were unable to and at a better price. I Recommend Anaconda online.Bribie Islander

I got the reel just over a month ago and I’m so pumped with how smooth and comfortable this reel is !! It’s my favorite reel in my collection and I have a lot haha hands down best reel I have used recommend it to everyone paired with the shimano jewel rod it’s a beast set up
