Just picked it up today and love the quality and build of the Shimano Sustain. I own a Stradic Ci4+ 4000 and can definetely understand why the Sustain is at a higher price point. Shoutout to the Wetherhill Park team and Jason for helping us out and giving us a good experience.

I use this reel for funny fish and striped bass. The only difference is the test of the braid and fluoro leader. Coupled with a good rod, it is a great fishing experience. This is my 2nd reel and I still use my old one every week.

Tough built, this reel handled 20 pounds Cubera Snappers, even managed to fought a 25 pound yellowfin tuna, the drag is amazing so as the feel. Totally recommend it, Shimano did it again l, great inshore reel.

So I dont know what happend to shimano but after the black ci4 stradics, now all the 4000s and 5000s (Sustain, Stradic, even Stella) are way too tight retrieve under load. In the store when not under load they feel fine, but as soon as you're retrieving a lure it's too tight. But it's not just Shimano, even Penn is starting to feel like that too. Have Cabos and they are nice and effortless retrieve, as well as a Daiwa ballistic LT. The SW shimanos (saragosa, spheros, twin power sw, stella sw, even the cheaper sw's) all have effortless retrieve. But these new compact non SW models are way too tight and forearm tiring on the retrieve.
Visually build quality is top notch and looks easy to clean. So far 5/5 meets my expectations.Will be back after use.
bought the 5000 size reel for snapper on plastics. Third sustain in this size I have purchased as happy with the performance for the price
Bought this reel recently to load with pe2 and attach to a Majorcraft GiantKiller rod to throw lures to small pelagic's in the Bay. Quality reel with silky smooth drag. Very happy buyer
Amazing strength, so buttery smooth & strong 24 pound of drag (11kg) power for a small light weight reel. This picture does not do justice to this fantastic little powerful reel. The 5000XGFI comes with a round, easy to hold power knob (EVA) unlike the picture shown here; (picture shown 4000XG model). Just below its' bigger brother; the 5000XG Stella & similar to the 5000XG Twin Power & combines with my Veritas PE 3-5 6ft.2in spin/jig rod & 30lb Siglon PEx8; can pulls amazingly 70cm+ snapper with ease.
I bought this reel many moons ago, I can't quite remember my life without it. It has revolutionised my fishing journey. From the soft foam handle that sits perfectly in your palm, it allows me to connect with the fish unlike any other reel. Shimano has a way of ensuring both durability, and more importantly, sexiness. The reel sits beautifully on my shelf when not in use, and has become both an amazing tool and a collectors item.
Bought this brand new reel and only used for one time, then it just stuck, hard to roll back. Thanks the BCF staff help me to send back service centre to repair but extremely disappointing for this purchase. Still has no explanation about this issue.
