Excellent smooth reel

I have several TAC12II reels. I decided to purchase a TAC16II for the added line capacity, I'm fishing Southern California waters for Bluefin tuna in the 100-200lb class. I have caught several large tuna on this reel and I'm very happy with the reels performance. The TAC16ii is the same diameter as the TAC12II but it is wider.

Used My Talica 2 size 16 and 25 over the past weekend used the 16 for Cod fishing and was smooth and lightweight to jig for cod. Then we did some sharking set up a Talica 16 and Talica 25 caught 2 Bluesharks both were well over 150 lbs. and the Talica worked well ever had to put in low gear and enough drap to stop the first run off when the sharks see's the boat. I will be buying more of these reels to change all of my equipment Penn internationals 70's and 50's over.

Ha no experienced it yet. I will be using this reel for Tuna, my plan is feed the reel with 80# spectra and 40# mono top shot.

Heavy Duty That Casts

Drag is consistently smooth, strong, and dependable. If your looking for a lever drag reel that has power, speed, torque, and a good free-spool the talica 2 speed is the way to go. They aren't cheap and you can tell when you use it. Got a 16ii topped with 80lb Jerry brown to 20 ft 80lb jinkai flouro for targeting 100-250lb+ bluefin.

Not for "REEL" work
9 June 2018

Time to rescind all previous endorsements of Shimano. Last season we invested in 18 Talica reels for our Alaskan halibut charters. These reels retail at over $600 a piece and did not make it through one season. The insides look like something that has been on the bottom of the ocean for years. However that was not what triggered this call out. Yes we put them to work for a 100 days straight but this is not our first rodeo as you all know. The part that got me was the verbal lashing from the Shimano repair guy about how to treat their “Ferrari” reels! Sorry, our reels are not parked in the garage for show..Ours are busy filling freezers! Then after charges ranging from $60 to $175 to repair reels less than a year old the first one returned to us from them only made ... MoreTime to rescind all previous endorsements of Shimano. Yeah O’Fish’ial Charters calling out Shimano to forget the “Ferrari” and give me a good OL American muscle car that can do some work!

I love fishing in the Dry Tortugas and could, as a younger man, handle big AJs, sharks, and grouper no problem. But now my wrists are no longer young and the two-speed reel is just the ticket when real work is at hand.I’ve got three: heavy grouper rod, general snapper rod, and a slow pitch jigging rod. They are excellent for all applications.

Solid and Id buy it again. Its getting me back into saltwater surf fishing!
2 September 2019

Well made, solid, two speed, lever drag control. Holds a lot of line, especially if you use hollow core spectra. If you need 1000 yards get the Shimano Tiagra 50W. Both are great! Tiagra is a bit too heavy to cast, Talica will be good for deep sea or surf fishing.

Talica 10 and 16

I have the 10 & 16 2-speeds. They are beast of a reel for their size and casting ability of a lever drag. The 10 is the overall size of a Torium 14, or Tekota 500. But holds 500-535 of 50lb braid. 300-330 of 65lb braid. 13lbs drag at strike and 20 at full. I haven't used more than about 8 and it has been more than enough with 30-40lb leaders for tuna and bottom fishing. I wouldn't put more than 12 maybe 13 at strike like is recommended. The reel casts awesome and freespols insane for lever drag. It is the wide spool version and if your looking for a narrow spool, get the 8 for line management and the 8 holds about 300-330 of 50lb braid. The 16 is a beast and is also the wider version of the 12... This reel is about the size of a Trinidad or Torium 20 hga. These reels are so versatile and powerful that you CC an just put some braid on there and just tie on whatever leader you need at the time to fish with. The drags are so super smooth and the cranking is also smooth. Can't say enough good things about them, other than they have been great the last 2 years

Talica 16 Two Speed

Bought this reel for tuna chunking and matched it with a Shimano Terez. Haven’t used it chunking yet, but found it can be used for jigging, if you like. It’s a very nice smooth reel and has worked well so far.

Tuna Perfection
20 August 2021

For west coast tuna, this reel checks all the boxes - Super smooth, plenty of drag, and casts better than any other lever drag 2 speed I have ever fished. The 16 gives me all I need in 50 or 60# class - but the muscle to bump up to 80 if needed. Light enough to hold at the rail all day. While the newest addition to my offshore setups, It is already my favorite and go to reel.

The compact Talica II (2 speeds) with a lightweight free spool is designed for trolling with braided line. An additional braking system is available to ensure optimal line management when using monofilament line. The Talica offers tremendous braking power and perfect pulling strength to land the biggest fish. The Talica was developed for the technique of trolling in exotic fishing. Although it is designed for braided lines, an additional braking system is offered to create the best possible line management for fishing with monofilament lines. The torque is 30% lighter thanks to the construction with the dual InfinityDrive braking system, while the width of the fishing gear remains unchanged. With X-Protect technology, the protection of the reel against intruding water that could damage the interior of the reel is ensured. The S-COMPACT housing is lighter, smaller, and easier to handle than comparable reels. The Talica is a dream reel that fits perfectly in the hand. At low speed, you have unlimited power and torque to land big fish during the fight, while at high speed, you can quickly retrieve your bait. The carbon brake washers provide remarkable power and durability and can be adjusted instantly with the easily accessible lever, while the 7 closed A-RB ball bearings, brass gears, and aluminum spool ensure a smooth operation as you would expect from a high-quality reel.
