I am relatively new to road cycling and recently purchased a Giant Contend AR 3 bike (used) with some SPD cleats/pedals. The bike also came with little used Giant Flux bike shoes in my size (bonus!). After 10 rides with these shoes, my feet (EE-EEE width) were aching and super red/swollen on the inside and outside of my foot...I thought, "Well, I guess this is what it is; my feet are just going to hurt". Fortunately, I have very supportive wife, who said I should get what I need to "Do this cycling thing right", encouraging me to purchase a pair of 'wide' bike shoes. Once I started researching wide bike shoes, I realized these can get quite expensive (compared to âregularâ width shoes) and was fortunate to come across Bikeshoes.com. These Shimano SH-XC3 wide shoes are amazing! The were just as comfortable as my New Balance wide sneakers and I love quick closure system. Bottom line â great bike shoes for wide feet.

Shoe reviews can be a bit challenging, as what works for some will inevitably not work for others. That being saidâwith a few exceptionsâthese are some of the better quality entry/mid-level shoes available, and truly stand out in a pretty crowded market. The build quality is excellent, the materials feel great, and the inclusion of a BOA L6 dial on a shoe at this price makes them really shine. When paired with the clean, modern aesthetic, it makes the XC-300âs a very appealing pair of shoes. The styling was clearly borrowed from Shimanoâs premium S-PHYRE collection, an elegant fabric âswoopâ on which the BOA is mounted helps to provide tension across the foot.Which leads me into my only gripe with the XC-300âs, that is the uneven nature of getting them to ... MoreShoe reviews can be a bit challenging, as what works for some will inevitably not work for others. Achieving even tension between the toe and top of the foot leaves a bit to be desired, and causes me to have a bit more pressure at the top of my foot than I would like. This likely wouldnât be an issue for many riders, especially those who need less vertical space in their cycling shoes, for whom these could be perfect. For me, it will require some tweaking to be truly comfortable. A good pair of Sidi or Specialized BG insoles would dramatically improve the comfort of these shoes, and this is to be expected for virtually any shoe on the market. All the weight weenies and stiffness-to-compliance ratio nerds out there will be very happy to hear that these performed well in my (admittedly very unscientific) testing. These are surprisingly very lightweight shoes, and are on par with higher end models. The reasonably lightweight nylon sole provided enough stiffness to feel efficient on my local after-work gravel loop, even when pedaling out of the saddle. It seems as though the waffle pattern on the inside of the sole increases stiffness, but gives just enough flex for the inevitable sections where âhoofing itâ is required. They also provide enough off the bike comfort for a post-ride stop at your local brewery (or so Iâve heard). The XC-300âs are a great option for those gravel, XC, cyclocross or casual riders looking for a reasonably priced, feature-heavy shoe that's ready to compete with the look and performance of higher end models.Pros:-Heel cup and inner textured surface is excellent, and the cup expertly cradles your heel to prevent even the hint of heel slip-The rubber outsole (even without the higher-end Michelin rubber) is quite grippy without feeling overbuilt or clunky-BOA dial is accurate and precise, in spite of slightly uneven tension it can provide at times-The insole is surprisingly comfortable for being stock-Sleek design is reminiscent of a much more expensive pair of shoes-Reinforcement on the heel and toe, in conjunction with the raised rubber toe cap, give the impression of excellent long term durability-Nylon sole is adequately stiff for those of us who donât race bikes for a livingCons:-Temperamental adjustment through the BOA struggles to provide even tension across the entire foot-A bit too much vertical volume in the toebox for me, but others may find it perfect, especially with a thicker insole-Shimano's sizing chart can be tricky, it's best to pay close attention to it before ordering

This is my first pair of if Shimano shoes and my first pair with the Boa system. First ride was 8 miles of single track varying from sand to hardpack and exposed roots. Kept a high cadence - the show was firm enough for great power transfer and efficient pedaling. Finished the ride and had grab a snack and shoes were good for running a quick errand. The rubber made for a pretty quiet step compared to other shoes. The toe box felt a tad narrow (felt like wearing adidas gazelles) but broke in fairly quickly. Very happy with the shoes.

The top flap overrides the padded lower flap when tightened, causing the hard edge of the upper flap to cut into the tendon on the front of my ankle. I have narrow low-volume feet, which may have contributed to this problem. Also, the BOA setup doesn't allow one to vary how much each portion of the top is tightened, causing the shoe to be overly tight around the ankle while still being too loose around the midsection and toes. I ended up returning these and replacing them with the XC1 shoes, which don't seem to have this problem, and also allow me to tighten each portion of the top independently for a more custom fit. Too bad, as I would have preferred the BOA setup since Velcro usually wears out before the shoes do.
These are a replacement for my old SH-MO89 'Torban' mountainbike shoes that I mostly use for road and touring. These are about 80g lighter - which I like a lot. They are also quite flimsy. The stitching is less than half as heavy.I was looking forward to moving from a velcro/ratchet closure to a boa. Wow, was that a mistake. It will suit many people, but the shoe is made W I D E.Unfortunately, the boa only tightens the mid-foot and the upper foot. For example, with the boa done up ALL of the way, at the top (near your leg) there's no gap left between the sides of the shoe. It has tightened in width by about 10 cm. Towards your toes, the two halves of the shoe are still 3cm apart and it's toghtened by about 1cm.That's right: 10cm at the ankle and only 1 cm above ... MoreThese are a replacement for my old SH-MO89 'Torban' mountainbike shoes that I mostly use for road and touring. These are about 80g lighter - which I like a lot. For people with wide feet (E) there's a wide option, so I didn't expect these would suit a C and D width.I'll keep with my incredibly long-wearing MO89s while looking for some way of packing these out without making them too "sloppy".Overall, for people with a C width foot: 4 out of 5.For me and anyone with a narrow foot: 2 out of 5.
Iâve been using these shoes on my gravel bike for about 5 months now, and really like them. Theyâre light and relatively stiff. They have a low stack height for a more natural feel on the pedals. Boa dial works great, as usual. They feel like a road shoe or gravel racing shoe, but not as rigid. The only thing is, I have hammer toes, which need a taller toe box, and synthetic leather doesnât really mold itself to them. Still, I commute to work 3x/wk on paved bike path, ~7mi. each way, and theyâve been comfortable even for me.
I got the Shimano XC3 (SH-XC300) shoes as an upgrade over my older Shimano SH-M086L MTB which have two velcro straps plus a ratcheting buckle and a bit on the portly side at 455g per shoe with SH51 cleats (almost 400g without). The single BOA on the XC3's are nice and much faster to put on and take off.I ordered the same size euro 44 as my M086L's (no fit problems as I am a size 9 US shoe) and the XC3 shoes weigh between 324g (right shoe) and 327g (left shoe). Online I found a listed weight of 332g per shoe, so it's just about right.Stiffness of the XC3 is 5 out of 12 on the Shimano stiffness scale. But let's face it, on a gravel bike you're not likely to be pedal mashing like on a road bike going hard for that KOM unless that's reeeeally your thing.Since my gravel bike weighs another 1-2 lbs more than my road bike, I was looking to reduce some weight here and there and these fit the bill. Great price on BikeINN compared to my LBS for these shoes even with shipping to Canada. Hard to go wrong with these at a price to performance ratio.
Firstly, they come small - I usually wear EU44 and was very surprised when the website recommended buying size EU46, but I went with it. This turned out to be a good move - the shoe fits me well in this size. It's just in right size for me, not too loose and not too tight.BOA lacing system is working fine and allows put as much tension and tightness as I need.I like how quickly they dry due the material used in them. They are also comfortable to walk in both on road and off road.Lastly, they look really smart and pretty stylish too.Minor issue is feet fatigue on longer rides when feet are tightly locked inside a shoe and there is not much movement for them. But I guess this must be a case for majority of this type of shoes.Overall, solid and quality shoe ... MoreFirstly, they come small - I usually wear EU44 and was very surprised when the website recommended buying size EU46, but I went with it. Utilising a lot of the technology you find in higher-spec Shimano shoes, I thought the XC300 would be a great shoe. The fit is good â I'm typically a 44 and the 44 felt perfect. The midsole is pretty rigid â not quite as rigid as a similarly priced road shoe, but that's not a bad thing for gravel riding. The materials feel good quality, and the outer-sole has good lugs for grip. However, the BOA system is really strange. The location of the BOA dial (halfway down the shoe) meant I couldn't get the tension right. When dialling up the BOA, I found that I'd need to get over-tighten the bottom of my shoes (putting pressure on my toes), in order to get the top of the shoe to feel tight enough (so that my heel didn't lift). Alternatively, if I loosened the dial to give my toes more space, my foot wouldn't feel secure at the top of the shoe, and my heel would lift.Since the shoe has a single "lace" for the whole shoe, there's no way to redistribute the tension between your ankle and toes. Overall, because of this BOA issue, the shoes didn't work for me, so I had to return them.
I bought these shoes in April 2021 and have since used them extensively for both indoor and outdoor cycling. They are set up for the 2-hole SPD cleats, which is fine, but they won't work for going to most spin studios, if that's what you're after.I estimate I've worn them for 9,000 km equivalent both indoor and on the roads, and they look and feel exactly like the day I bought them. I also have a pair of Specialized road shoes fitted with Keo cleats, and those make my toes go numb after about 30 minutes of wear. These don't have this problem at all, and the BOA adjuster really helps get a good fit. Finally, the BOA itself has a guarantee on it that makes me feel confident that these shoes will last me a lifetime.
