Well. What can I say. XC7 is a good competition level mtb shoes and I can get them with a good price. Really satistfied with my purchased after the seller give 2nd opinion about my size. Close but nope.

I wear a 44 in pretty much everything, so I got a 44. Pretty true to size, maybe a bit more narrow and a bit more long than some 44s, but nothing that would make me say that they run small or big. The fit is almost perfect. A roomy toe box that you can close up as much as you want. I was thinking that I finally found a new show for MTB and gravel. But then I tightened them down, and you have to tighten them fully to get the top strap to make contact. I have a high/big instep, so I avoided the XC701 that people were saying the top strap cut into there instep, top area. The 702 is changed slightly to make it softer on the tongue and top strap, but for me at least the problem is still there. Dissapointed

I got these shoes to replace an older pair of XC702's. They seem to be great shoes but to my surprise, this new model does NOT come with multidirectional Boa's like my old pair. This is very disappointing, especially in a race-level shoe. Being able to loosen the Boa on the fly during a race or in hot weather is critical. Just something to be aware of. The gap in $$ to the XC902 is a big one in order to get the better Boa's. That's a shame.

Don't ever buy 2 pairs of shimano shoes

I liked my shimano MTB shoes a lot, so l bought 2 pairs. Big mistake. The new shoes that l stored for a few years indoors, climate controlled and in their original box, just disintegrated immediately once l started using them. Shimano's response after l documented this issue fully? "Here, have a tiny discount on a new pair."

Great Shoe High Spec Features

This is a deal breaker, having the ability to control the top strap for me is way more important than having a separate strap for the lowest strap, this is because foot slope is so different on different feet. In my experience shoes where the top 2 Straps are adjusted by a single top BOA are not fit for purpose unless you luck out on a shoe which happens to fit your foot exactly.This makes the comfort of this shoe higher than shoes double the price.Downers - in wet weather your feet will get wetAnd why have a weird blue lip on the toe sole.Either way I Highly highly recommend this shoe!

My new go to MTB shoe.

I have always worn Sidi MTB shoes, from Drakos to Dominator 10's. I had been looking for something different, so went with these after reading a few articles.Wow, they are impressive so far. I like having rubber between the heel & toe cleats. They are great for the rare hike-a-bike times. Unlike Sidi shoes, these do not loosen during rides. I usually put Solestar insoles in all my cycling shoes, but these are great as is - even better!

Not as comfortable in toe area as the 701

I have had three generations of the XC7 and really liked the 701 version. I currently have both the XC7 and the RC7 in this 702 generation and both are not comfortable on my big toes. The shoe material is harder or is not made with enough room above the big toe. Oddly, both shoes are worse on my right foot even though my left and right big toes are he same. I hope that I can deal with this. It's not bad if I keep my nail cut down as far as possible. Maybe the next generation will have the toe area more like the 701.

Stiff while remaining comfortable, no complaints

I've put two 5+ hour rides into these shoes thusfar - both on gravel roads and pavement on my cyclocross bike. The shoes were comfortable out of the box, I have not experienced any hot spots or rubbing or unsolvable tightness. The soles are stiff enough to have a positive power transfer to the pedals and the low profile tread makes them reasonably nice to walk in - though I have not taken them in mud as of yet and imagine if I do regularly I will consider getting toe studs for the first time.I think for gravel riding these shoes are perfect. For muddy mountain biking or cyclocross racing they could be good with the toe studs as mentioned above I just haven't tried them in these conditions yet. They are easily adjusted while on the bike. I had a pair of Shimano mtn bike shoes before and did not like the plastic tread used on them - the Vibram soles are a huge improvement over those.Bottom line: For a gravel rider definitely recommend them. For mountain biking or cyclocross, a recommendation would depend on the terrain you ride in.

nice for the price

this mid tier 702 seems to have the same BOA system and fit as the top line, but for two hundred less. fit is good. my feet are just a bit wider than most. I sized up a half cm. also this is the good type of BOA locks. they fully release when you pull the top. east to get out. some brands (splzd) use BOAs that just ratchet backwards, so it takes heeps of time to loosen the cables to get out.

perfect for wide and not voluminous

I bought these because I have wide feet and currently use Fizik Tempo Overcurve R4 wide road shoes but wanted a pair for my gravel bike. I really wanted these to work but another problem that people with wide feet have is fat and large feet all around... The top strap dug into the top of my foot/ankle when I tried the shoes on. Had to return. If you have wide but not voluminous feet you should be golden!
