This is a pricey helmet. Is it worth it? That's debatable. My prior helmet was also pricey, a Schuberth C3 lite. The Shoei is a bit more expensive. Both are high quality lids with top notch components and materials. The positives: Shoei color is more hi-viz; it is a bit lighter, inner liner is nicer, better vented and most importantly, it is better at keeping out the rain. The negatives: it is just as noisy. Overall, Im glad I got it but the noise at highway speeds remains a disappointment.

I had a lot of problems with this helmet right from the start. I had a previous generation air helmet and based my purchase and sizing on that lid. Mistake. This helmet does not fit as the previous air helmet did. It is incredibly noisy and wind specifically blasts the ear area where the comm system is designed to be placed. Even with ear plugs riding with the air II was unpleasant-the air flow pushed under the helmet and felt like it was lifting off my head, and my ear area was always cold. On hot days the air II is a pretty good helmet because of the venting and air flow but any cooler conditions and it is a misery. Excellent helmet with a few caveats (Sena)
29 July 2023

I purchased this two weeks ago. This review is based on one week of daily use commuting to work - about 15 miles in one direction in Los Angeles. This is my third lid. My first helmet was a HJC modular helmet that was basic and heavy. When I moved up from a basic HD bike and riding gear to a Vstrom I purchased a Shoei Neotec modular helmet in black and hi-viz stripes. I purchased it in 2016. I loved that thing except for the air flow and noise level. Air movement was nonexistent, and the noise level was high. After six years, the liner seemed to have disintegrated and one day when taking it out to dry it out, it just fell apart. The liners are discontinued which bothers me because I can see getting another six years out of the helmet if a liner were acquired. But I ... MoreI purchased this two weeks ago. After six years, the liner seemed to have disintegrated and one day when taking it out to dry it out, it just fell apart. The liners are discontinued which bothers me because I can see getting another six years out of the helmet if a liner were acquired. But I digress. So after much hesitation I started looking for a replacement a few weeks ago. It took me several weeks to settle on a helmet. I considered a Schuberth C5 as a replacement but when priced out was beyond what I was willing to pay, given this was an unexpected purchase. Shoei modulars are great but are about $100 more expensive (not including the graphics which then bump up the price even further) than a GT Air II. I was not sure I would love a full-face helmet but the price of the GT Air II was just right for me. I purchased one in shiny black WITHOUT the optional comm system.I am honestly very impressed. It fits very comfortably right out of the box. Cheek pads are comfortable. There are no hot spots. I wear a 2XL helmet, round oval headshape, size 63 cm at the brow. I am bald with my hair buzzed at the sides/back. The sizing chart size indicates I am between a 2XL and 3XL and the 2XL fits great. The helmet seemed to fog up once for the first 5 minutes of riding but then never did it again (I think I just figured out the vent settings). Installing the (INCLUDED) Pinlock screen was easy. The vents allow way better air flow then the Neotec ever did, although I still think it could be improved. The noise level is much quieter so now I can wear my iPod earbuds and listen to my music. Visibility is great and the helmet feels solid. I LOVE the rachet system instead of the D rings (which the Neotec had). So much easier to connect and undo the straps with one gloved hand (had to take my gloves off with the Neotec D rings). The straps could be longer as my neck is large. I have the straps fully extended and it is comfortable but I could use maybe a centimeter more space between the straps and my neck. My 29 year-old son, who also rides, thinks the helmet is badass.I have a Brakefree brake light on my helmet and the light fits perfectly on the back of the helmet.I had a buggy, unreliable and expensive Sena comm system for my Neotec modular that only partially worked for one riding season in Colorado (where I am originally from) but then never worked again so I am VERY hesitant to shell out another $300 for another Sena system. I honestly will be looking at reviews of riders who chose to use a different system because I will never buy another Sena system--a waste of money and more plastic garbage for the landfill. That is the only reason I am giving this a 4 star instead of 5 star review. Sena is just awful. I am sticking with my earbuds for now for music as I wear a thin beanie, also purchased from Revzilla that keeps them in place when I take my helmet on/off.

Great Helmet
18 October 2022

Helmet is light and aerodynamic. There is very little wind buffeting. It is a quiet helmet. Riding without earplugs sounds equal to my other helmets with earplugs. Other helmets being, HJC, Bell and Shoei R-1200.The tinted visor works well and I?m glad to not have to deal with sunglasses. Visibility left to right is good. Lower peripheral visibility is not as good as my adventure style helmet, but that may be normal.I highly recommend this helmet. I?ve ridden hundreds of thousands of miles on different makes and models and styles of bikes and helmets.

Great helmet
11 November 2022

I usually prefer a 3/4 helmet due to warm summer temps, but I use a full face when it's colder. Replacing an older HJC full face, I selected the Shoei GT-Air II based on my experience with a Shoei J-Cruise, one of the best 3/4 helmets I've owned. The GT-Air II did not disappoint. It is the nicest helmet I've ever owned! The fit is very comfortable, and the breath shield works well to keep the facemask from fogging. The helmet comes with a pinlock shield, but so far I haven't had to use it. Depending on how it performs in warmer weather, this might become my go-to helmet year 'round.

Great helmet, just research the headset situation first if you plan to use one
9 May 2023

I've had 4 helmets so far and this is unquestionably the best one. The fit and visibility are great and it's true to size. It's very quiet, the drop-down sun shield activation is very smooth and the top air vent really makes a difference. I can actually feel the wind on the top of my head unlike the helmets I've had before. I love the ratcheting chin strap as well. The headset situation is a mixed bag. Could be good or bad for you considering your situation. Since it has a dedicated place for the Sena headset, that works great if you want to get that but it messes up placement for any other headset. I caved and bought a Sena headset but it is really nice and integrates well. Love it

I bought this to replace my first street helmet, which you could consider a "budget" helmet. The difference is night and day. The Shoei is lighter, quieter, and ventilates way better. I love the ratchet system to secure the helmet, it's very convenient. The face shield is so clear you almost don't realize it's there, so visibility is very good in this helmet. One of the main reasons I purchased this helmet over others in this price range is the built in sun shade. I always wear sunglasses during day rides so this is awesome for me. Now I don't have to have the arms of my sunglasses digging into the sides of my head when I ride. If I had to knitpick one thing about this helmet I wish that the sun shade was just a little bit darker. This helmet is the best example of perfection I've experienced in 20 years of riding
29 May 2022

I cannot say enough nice things about this helmet. For 20 years I've asked myself "Why on earth is a helmet is worth $600?", and as soon as you ride with one it spoils you and it's instantly justified.1) The visor is very clear, and optically correct. I had no idea how much view curvature was happening on my old $200 helmet. This visor looks great, and has a very strong detent for any position you want to put it in. Seals great and no whistles. Comes with the pin lock too, which was a nice touch for turn key fog proof riding.2) Internal sunvisor runs smooth and comes low enough to prevent any chrome shine from playing peek-a-boo with you as you twist up the mountain with the sun behind you.3) I've worn every pair of sunglasses I own with this helmet, and they ... MoreI cannot say enough nice things about this helmet. I've discovered though that the sun visor is plenty dark and has enough coverage that I now ride without sunglasses. Being able to switch on the fly is great for cloudy days or when rides take place right at day/night transition. My old helmet had too much exposure beneath the sunvisor so I had to wear sunglasses also to prevent off angle sun glares.4) Ventilation is amazing. With my old $200 dollar helmet, I could never tell if the vents were open or closed. There were multiple places you had to hunt down some small obscure lever or button and try to manipulate it with a gloved hand in the blind while dodging traffic hazards. This helmet has a very easy to find, tactile, and effective venting scheme. You can tell when they are working, as the flow is directed very well over your face and scalp. When you change the state of the vent valve, it's very noticeable and "pops" between settings.5) Works great in the upright; some of my older full face helmets have the eye port rotated upwards slightly to help with viewing while in the tuck. This puts you at a disadvantage if your more upright in your posture. Mostly I notice it when the sun is low in front of you, and you want to angle the helmet to block out the direct sun. A more aggressive full face forces you to over compensate facing the helmet straight to the ground to get any direct sun relief. This helmet doesn't have that problem, and can easily cast shade over your eyes like a ball cap even in the 3/4 or full upright. It works in the tuck too, but admittedly I rarely go there.6) Interior is plush, and comfortable. A tad tight at first, but broke in quickly, I'd say around 200 miles of commuting it felt like a form fitting glove.7) Chin strap is easy and secure. One gripe is the old school double D ring setup allowed me a little more versatility in hanging the helmet from the bike somewhere. This fancy ratcheting setup is easy on, easy off, tight, secure, but limiting on hanging points. I find my self at the pump looking around for somewhere to set the helmet, as it doesn't lend itself to hang off the bike as easily because of the chin strap and chin curtain. Still happy; some worthy trade off there.8) Seems quiet enough for me, I think people who complain about it being loud don't realize motorcycles and wind make noise. I also wear ear plugs. Entry is tight, which helps with noise reduction, but make over the ear devices difficult, if impossible to wear. Seems likely you would want the purpose made intercom if you wanted some tech in the helmet, but I prefer to ride without it.I'm sure I can go deeper. The point is that perfection is damn tough to attain, and impossible across the entire cross section of riders. This helmet is the best example of perfection I've experienced in 20 years of riding.

Very noisy, might need to keep adjusting
31 August 2022

I wanted to pick up a new helmet to replace my few-years-old HJC helmet which was fine, but at highway-speeds buffeted a lot (I don't ride highways very often, too boring) so I was excited to get into a new Shoei figuring it would be worth the almost $700 price tag. I get a ton of wind noise from around the visor, and after watching some youtube videos and reading online, I tried doing some adjustments but nothing really helps. The sound is coming from the eyebrow area, and it SEEMS that it's tight, but maybe because there's so much less noise coming up from the neck area comparted to my HJC, maybe that's just how all helmets are.The drop down visor also doesn't go down very far (at least not like in the pictures here) and the bottom edge of it is kinda right in ... MoreI wanted to pick up a new helmet to replace my few-years-old HJC helmet which was fine, but at highway-speeds buffeted a lot (I don't ride highways very often, too boring) so I was excited to get into a new Shoei figuring it would be worth the almost $700 price tag.
