Shoei Neotec II Solid Modular Helmet - Anthracite Metallic / X-Small

This is a nice helmet with one big problem. It is WAY TOO HOT. The vent at the top of the helmet doesn't let in any noticeable airflow. Consequently, in temperatures over 80 F. my head sweats and my hair gets wet. I end up riding with the shield open part way. The helmet is so hot I ended up enlarging the holes from the vent at the top of the helmet. This helped slightly but the holes through the outer helmet skin are so tiny that making the holes bigger on the inside didn't do much. Somehow I am going to remove the scoop at the top of the helmet and modify the exterior holes into the helmet. I might ruin the helmet modifying the venting but in my opinion this helmet is useless the way it comes from the factory unless you like riding with the chin bar up for ... MoreThis is a nice helmet with one big problem. Upgraded from an Icon Airframe Pro and have zero regrets. It is better for an upright riding position on my naked bike versus the Icon which was more angled for a sport bike. I love being able to have the open face when I'm getting ready in the morning, getting gas, or need to run into a store real quick. No more slipping a helmet over my ears and then having to unfold them which was always a pain. Put it on while the face part is up and then close when ready to leave. The only tricky part is when you close the face part you have to use your finger to make sure the chin skirt gets under your chin or else it sits above it. It's also easy to undo the helmet strap with one hand while gloves are on. I purchased the Neotec 2 to replace my 2 year old Modular. The older Modular I had is a nice helmet for its price point but the visor never clipped down easily or correctly and the patch finally broke. I almost lost the chin bar due to screws coming loose. I had tried on the Shoei helmets before but at the price point I wasn't ready at that time to spend that much money. After purchasing the Neotec 2 I am impressed with the fit and finish of this helmet. Everything works smoothly and precise. It is a very comfortable helmet. This evening I rode with the old helmet due to it already being synced with my wife's Cardo. A hour into the ride my ears were sore and hot spots on my forehead. It's an OK helmet. It is much too heavy. I bought it primarily because I have a Shoei head. My helmets don't need features. All I want from them is to protect my melon, that's it.I don't want or need the intercom BS since I don't own a cell phone and I'm not going to buy a cell phone (and a $300 intercom) just to take advantage of the quick install panels.I'm constantly worried that the drop down internal sunvisor will break because that's what happened with my last Neotec 2. Hopefully I get treated well by Shoei if/when does break. I prefer quality over warranty.I don't like the like big wide piece of plastic in front of the top vent. This is why you should always wear ear plugs with this helmet.I'll never use the chin vent/draft thing 'cause I don't wanna suffocate inside my helmet. Without the Pin Lock, it fogs up quickly and easily. With the Pin Lock, it fogs up my glasses. If you ride/tour in cold, wet or foggy conditions, bring your contact lenses along with. The vent on the chin bar makes loud clinking noises but beyond that, doesn't seem to do anything.On the upside, I LOVE the ratchet strap. I'll never go back to D rings again. Putting a helmet on while wearing gloves is one the great, undiscovered joys of life.

The other insert in the undamaged box was still in the original packaging. I believe a new helmet comes with the Pinlock insert in separate packaging. When I peeled the plastic film, from the visor, I discovered the visor was scratched and there were light scratches on the snorkel. My best guess is that it was a returned helmet. I liked the M1 because of the integrated coms but some tweeker in Las Cruces stole it from my bike. Expensive lesson---Don't leave your gear in your bike overnight, even when staying in nice hotels. I liked the C3 Pro for comfort but with no integrated coms and the damn shield wouldn't stay open when going faster than about 30mph so it was time to upgrade. I read many reviews about the latest Schuberths and saw all the complaints about the shields not staying open so I went with the Neotec 2. This is a very nice helmet. Pros: very comfortable/very quiet/good airflow from chin vent./shield stays open at various speeds. I wear earplugs so quality of the sound of the music is not a factor. The volume is good enough for me to hear music and prompts with earbuds in. So far the voice commands for the SRL mesh have worked well. Prior to the aforementioned tweeker thief I would have knocked Shoei and Sena for not being able to remove the portion of the headset containing the battery for overnight hotel charging, like they do with Schuberth. But I shall never leave my gear in my panniers again so that wont' be a problem.

My daughter and I go go-kart racing, not motorcycling. So, with that in mind, at first, we did not want to pay Shoei prices. However, we have been going karting weekly now and my Bluetooth on the Sedici stopped working. I called Revzilla a bunch of times and got many different answers regarding upgrading. This is why you want to try them on in the store. However, it also should be noted that the Cardo Edge system cannot be beat. The Sena system that was in my Sedici sounded terrible. If you are an audiophile, don't get the Sena. I'm not saying I fit in that category, but when I spoke to Revzilla I asked if Bang and Olfson made speakers for these helmets, and I did notice the Sena has a new Harmon Kardon system available in one of Sena's $600 helmets. The guy at Revzilla said he would still go with Cardo Edge. Evan agreed and I will say the difference is night and day between the two. Evan was right all the way and Derrick installed my Bluetooth while my daughter made helmet decisions. GREAT TEAM!I love my Shoei helmet with Cardo Edge Bluetooth. They are both pricey, but you totally get what you pay for . . .
