Audio - Fabulous! When it works

I listen to music all day at work, so it's very noticeable when the it stops mysteriously for a few seconds - an issue I've had both with my laptop and my phone. They feel like earbuds, even if they're not in your ear canal, and I'm always relieved to put them back in their case.

I listened to my friend and purchased the mini size (for me, my husband and my 13 year old son; we have average size heads) - they were perfect. It does take a little getting used to as in the beginning, after about an hour, it felt a little uncomfortable at the front of our ears but now we can wear them all day (my husband loves them for phone use as he runs his plumbing company & we all love them for the music!).Control buttons are easy to operate, for volume, answering & disconnecting calls, replay or skip music tracks, etc.).I took a pic on my phone of the controls from the booklet for reference until I used my shokz enough times to remember what/where the controls are). It also comes with a real nice carry pouch! If you don't like the idea of the band around the back of your head, Shokz does have the OpenFit model Bluetooth earbuds with soft, over-the-ear loops - I purchased these for my older son and he loves them! They come with a carry/charger case. The charger connects to the unit magnetically so it is not a standard C plug so you will need to use the charger that comes with the unit. Charges fast and battery can last 2+ weeks (depends on usage).Best product in this category and the sound quality is phenomenal!!! You won't regret this purchase!

I had expected a sound similar to my AfterShokz bone conduction headphones, but the sound is so much fuller with pretty decent bass, which is configurable with the equalizer in app.I had my reservations about purchasing these because of their “premium” price (even though they were 20% off), but with the return policy on the Shokz site, I took the chance. I can say I will NOT be returning these for anything other than a warranty issue, should it arise. I have no regrets.Fit: The fit took a few tries to get used to, but after the first day I had no problem moving them securely into place. You just have to understand how the sound is designed to flow from the earbud to your ear canal. After that, you know exactly how to fit them to your ear. I can’t shake these out of my ears without hurting my neck, so that is good.Sound Quality: Remember, this earbud set is open-ear and will not sound like noise-cancelling, in-ear earbuds - that is not the purpose of this product. If your purpose is high fidelity sound, then purchase headphones made for that purpose.Having said that, the sound of the OpenFit has great treble, decent midtones, and a surprising amount of bass. You can easily tweak these settings in the Shokz app to your preference and save it as a custom EQ setting. I found a sweet spot for my hearing within a minute of customizing the EQ.Phone Calls: The phone calls have been very clear so far on both ends of the conversation. Unlike with my AfterShokz, when I mute my Teams meetings, there is not the annoying beeps from the OpenFit headphones letting me know a hardware mute is in effect. It’s the Microsoft programmers’ fault for that, but I digress.Sound Level: I read on some reviews that the sound was not loud enough. The pair I have get so loud that I have only raised the volume to 80% because it became too uncomfortable. The sound projection is not quite as private as with the AfterShokz, but the sound quality is better. But it will not disturb your cubicle mates unless you have it turned up really loud. At 40% it will not bother them (unless you ticked them off, and then they will have it out for you anyway).Comfort: It is easy for me to forget I have these on, even after eight hours.Multipoint Pairing: It works smoothly as advertised – more smoothly than my AfterShokz.Battery Life: The site states 7 hours per charge, and that is pretty accurate. I use them all day for music, Teams meetings, and phone calls. One side will give out after 7.5 hours, and the other side will last about 45 minutes longer. So, no surprises there. They are very fast charging – I don’t know exactly how fast, but both earbuds were fully charged from 10% to 100% in less than two hours. I forgot to check them sooner than the two-hour mark, so I don’t exactly how fast they charged.Comparison with my Aeropex Aftershokz (Shokz OpenRun):Fit: The AfterShokz dig into the back of your ears when leaning your head back against a seat (airline flights, road trips, high back chair, etc.). OpenFit doesn’t have that issue – they are simply comfortable.Sound Quality: 1) The AfterShokz sound is more private, but OpenFit sound better at lower levels, which makes them almost as private. 2) AfterShokz has little bass response, but OpenFit have a surprising and pleasing amount of bass. 3) When the ambient noise levels are higher, raising the volume on the Openfit earbuds is successful more often than with the AfterShokz – and you don’t risk the bone conduction buzz, either.Comfort: Openfit does not “buzz” your bones and skin at higher levels like AfterShokz do.Battery Life: AfterShokz have a longer battery life, but I don’t care.Comparison Conclusion: I prefer the Shokz OpenFit earbuds for my office and home environments. For me it was a good choice

Great Idea, But...

Let's get this out of the way first. The sound quality you get from these is sublime. It's very much of a higher quality than you can get from any bone conduction headset, even the Shokz OpenRun Pro, arguably. The bass response simply made my music and audio feel more full and substantive. During my time using OpenFit, I very much enjoyed that aspect.Though it's not without its downsides. While I can appreciate the new earhook design Shokz is trying for a true-wireless set of audio tech, in my experience it wasn't the best. The left earpiece fit perfectly fine on my ear with no issues whatsoever, however the right earpiece always felt slightly more loose and less secure than the left one did, no matter how much I adjusted it. The left earpiece fit perfectly fine on my ear with no issues whatsoever, however the right earpiece always felt slightly more loose and less secure than the left one did, no matter how much I adjusted it. Even just slightly shaking my head would knock it loose ever so slightly, which ruined comfort for me. I'm not going to blame Shokz for this, and instead I will blame the inconsistent anatomy of the human ear, since everyone's are shaped differently. The reason this product only gets three stars, however, is because the speaker drivers appear to have been blown out after only a couple months of usage. I don't believe I had been listening to music/audio at volumes that could cause this to happen, nor am I blaming Shokz for this product failure. It's entirely possible that there was some user error here, and I'm willing to believe that this is the case, but it is still rather disappointing.Overall, I don't dislike the product idea. Shokz clearly wants to expand into this "openback" wireless earbud market, and I'm all for it. However I have seen a recent video on a Kickstarter product by Oladance, which appears to take this open driver earpiece design, and connect them together via a wireframe headband much like what Shokz uses for all its other products. If Shokz were to release a product like this of their own, I would be much more interested in trying it.

I wish I could love them
10 April 2024

I bought these to see if they would work out better for me than the Shokz Air bone- conduction audio device I currently use.The good: making calls from the OpenFit is much better for the folks on the other side, the sound quality of my voice to them is improved over what they hear when I am using the Air bone-conduciton unit. The not so good: While the OpenFit sounds good with decent bass while I am inside in a relatively quiet location, that does not generally seem to be the case when I am out either walking or bike riding (road, not dirt).I am not sure if it is because of my ear shape or what. It seems the speaker screen is located a bit above my ear canal, and the sound improves if I manually hold the OpenFit so that it is a bit lower on my ear. It seems the speaker screen is located a bit above my ear canal, and the sound improves if I manually hold the OpenFit so that it is a bit lower on my ear. Understand I am not talking about pushing it into the ear canal, just pulling it down a bit so that it is more in line with where my ear canal seems to be. I was even considering trying to stretch out the ear loop. But even if I could (and am not sure it would work) doing that would seem to then be undone when I put them back in their charging holding case.Comfort - is OK, Maybe I just need to wear them more to get more used to them.User-friendly - hard/fair to okay. That is, sometimes I just can't seem to touch the right spot to either start/stop or go to next track. Or answer a call.Sometimes just putting them in will activate as if a button press, but that is understandable since I am well, touching them. :-)Two other good points, The beep sound when things change, such as when they drop the connection because I have wandered too far from my iPhone is mellow. This is a HUGE IMPROVEMENT over the harsh and way too loud beep that the Air bone-conduction unit makes when any change happens (sound Up, sound Down, connection Drop or Resume). (That noise is one of the things I HATE about the Shokz Air unit.)The second good point is that they seem to stay "in" on my ears when I am exercising.FYI, I ordered direct from you all, rather than Amazon or some other store, because of the longer period to give them a try-out.Thanks for asking and checking in with me on how it is going. (I've been meaning to call or write.)Sincerely, Bruce

I’ll admit until I went to buy a pair of the OpenRun Pro, I didn’t even know Shokz made these type of headphones! I have never seen them advertised anywhere. And once I tried them on and heard the sound I was instantly convinced I needed these. The 1st surprise was these are EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE! To the point of I forget I am wearing them. I thought, because the surface area is a little “boxy” and the fit is so comfortable, I thought they would move a lot or worse, fly off. It was an unwarranted thought. Even at 35mph these do not move and they allow me to hear both the music and the surrounding noises just fine. The 3rd surprise is that the sound is not distorted with speed(as the wind passes over the headphones)And the 4th which is actually the coolest part(literally and figuratively), idk if it’s just the way they sit on my ears but some of the airflow is directed towards my inner ear which gave a really nice cooling sensation as I was riding!I highly recommend these headphones!

I also use music when I am stimming (every human stims, autistic people just put their own flair to it) and these bad boys have survived some funky head banging!Hyperacusis- these have a very nice sound, I can hear things with these that I cant with other headphones, different notes and instruments. An added bonus is sometimes I wear these without music playing because they block sharp sounds from directly hitting my ears. I am also able to have better phone conversations with less irritability because the voices aren't harsh and the audio is clearPTSD- You got the tissues, 'cuz I got the issues! Minimizing humor aside, situational awareness is very important to me, if I feel like I can't hear I feel unsafe. The situational awareness of these makes it seem like you're in the car with the radio playing. It is also great because I have three kids and can only listen to the nature cat theme song so many times before my brain starts flipping breakers, so to speak.I have terrible ADHD (autism is a spectrum disorder because when you're autistic, you don't just have autism!) so I apologize for any incomplete thoughts.

[Rewarded Review] Halfway to the halfway house

These headphones are quite interesting in a few ways. It’s a niche category to fall in where you wanna listen to music and still be aware of what’s going on around you, I would say it’s for The type of person that likes to use Lofi hip-hop beats to study to. The Headphones are great for adding background music to your day to day. You’re still totally capable of talking, working, getting chores done around the house. I will say it’s not for everyone, I wouldn’t recommend these headphones for anybody that wants to seriously enjoy their music, while the sound quality is still good, you are still prone to outside sound so It will drown out the sound of your music. They are a pretty secure fit on your ear, I did take a spill while skateboarding and they managed to stay ... MoreThese headphones are quite interesting in a few ways. Hands free is also not as nice or easy as one would want. There are touch controls on the headphones which offerGreat features such as activating your smart assistant or controlling volume. But the headphones do not respond to smart assistant automations like “hey google” or “hey siri” the app is pretty friendly and useful I do enjoy have multiple devices paired to the headphones (even though you’re limited to 2) the option to customize the EQ is quite nice to have.

[Rewarded Review] Lots to Love, But "Multipoint" is Only Dualpoint
18 May 2024

There's a lot to love about these earbuds. I bought them because I was sick of worrying when my airpods were going to fall out. Because of that, I purposefully looked for a hook style.I hesitated getting these because they aren't noise-canceling. But, due to other reviews speaking about the benefits of having perfect music sound while also having perfect ambient sound access, I decided to give them a try. I would not use these on an airplane where I want to drown out crying babies and the jet engine sounds. But for the office and at home, they are great. I found noise cancelling to be problematic at the office because I can't hear when someone knocks on my door. And, of course, it's never good to not respond to your wife because your earbuds prevent you from ... MoreThere's a lot to love about these earbuds. Having to use a Shokz app to attach a second device seems a bit ridiculous. And, btw, "multipoint pairing" is a euphemism because it only supports a maximum of two devices. So, if I want it always paired to my cellphone, but also pair to my home and work laptops, I will have to go throught the second device pairing each time I move from office to home, or vice versa. This seems pretty antiquated and short-sighted in terms of where technology is at today.

[Rewarded Review] Shocked at how amazing SHOKZ OPENFIT Earbuds are!
1 March 2024

I purchased the SHOKZ OPEN FIT earbuds on Jan 27th, 2024. I had never heard of this brand before but was looking for something that did not go into the ear. I have had those type of ear devices previously and after long wear periods, my ears begin to ache and itch and get very irritated. Unfortunately, these are a daily need for me in my line of work and I wanted to look into other options that offer some noise canceling vs. purchasing the dreaded full sized headphones. Honestly, the one thing I was worried about after purchasing these, was whether others would hear what I was hearing when these were at a higher volume if they were sitting near or next to me, but amazingly, they cannot! Honestly, the one thing I was worried about after purchasing these, was whether others would hear what I was hearing when these were at a higher volume if they were sitting near or next to me, but amazingly, they cannot! Even though the store let me try the demo pair prior to purchasing, sometimes you want to believe things to be what they are not and sometimes things are not what they appear to be. I am extremely impressed by the clarity and sound but most of all, the noise canceling feature these provide! I actually have to remove one when others are trying to talk to me if they are not in my meeting or call! These sit just over the ear, not in it! I absolutely love these and would recommend them to anyone but especially those that have to wear these devices for extended periods daily and or have sensitive ears. These are perfect for you! They have cancelled out all the noise of the many people in my busy background to where I do not hear them nor do the ones I am on the call/meeting with hear any noise and equally the same just sitting next to another person in a quieter environment! Battery life lasts all day for me 13+ hours. I do keep charged when not using. Definitely worth the cost and actually a little cheaper than the common name brands. They even have an APP to install, if you want, to be able to adjust the equalizer and other features these offer! They are also just as great with out the APP too! That’s just a bonus if you ask me! Go try these for yourself and tell me I am wrong! I am an 80+ hour a week wearer here!
