There are strong wind noises reported from the other end of the call.- The control button doesn't have a great feeling or feedback. It's low profile and has very little range of the click, oftentimes leaving me with a click and a miss instead of a double click, or even with a long click. It's worse when moving around, which is the main use case for these headphones. Also, when this happens when trying to double click in succession to skip a few songs, you may end up pausing the music with a click+miss and then redialling the last number with a double click.- Great battery life! Feels even longer than advertised.- Excellent rangeSo overall, I'd give them a 4/5 because of the innovative underlying idea. Once these type of headphones become more established on the market, these would be a solid 3/5.

The sound quality isn't going to be on par with your BOSE noise cancelling headphones, but it isn't designed to be. These are designed to still give you ample awareness of your surroundings, whilst also providing a decent quality sound. As someone who goes running in the evening along winding hilly roads, these have been a game-changer, making me feel much more confident of my surroundings and allows me to push further and faster, without slowing down to double and triple check road crossings like I used to with my old surround ear headphones. You won't get heavy BASS with these, as given they work via conduction of your ear canal, putting the volume up to max on a heavy bass soundtrack, simply gives a tingling feeling on your ear, which is not pleasant. However I have found myself using these over my noise cancelling headphones for other tasks as well. When I want to listen to the radio early in the morning, I'll have these on, not disturbing anyone else whilst also being able to keep an ear out for my children waking up. I often even after I pause my media to have a more lengthy conversation, then forget they are on my head, as they are actually quite comfortable for longer uses. I also have enjoyed being able to listen to music, tv news etc whilst soothing my child to sleep. Because of the conduction sound transfer, at medium levels of volume they make no external noise that might otherwise disturb my child, whilst also allowing me to communicate to her. Overall I think apart from times where I really want to be an audiophile, these have become my go to headphones. I'm probably going to be a heavy user, however even if the battery only lasts a couple of years (given it's non-replacable), i'd have no hesitation buying another one when the time comes. Maybe the only downside is it is a proprietary magnetic charging cord, so you don't want to lose that - may be inconvienient when travelling.

This headphone style meets all these needs!I'm not much of a critic on music sound quality, so can't speak to that, but these headphones are my go-to for any activity outside of work (where I use large noise-cancelling headphones), including walks around the neighborhood, going to the gym, or just doing the dishes. While granular control is limited with just a few buttons, there is a nice large "Pause" button on the left side, which makes it easier than most other headphones I've used to stop the sound and fully engage with someone interrupting me (then quickly restart). I also appreciate that if I need to stop using my headphones for a while (eg driving, long conversation), I can just leave them on instead of removing and risking losing them, as I often did with other small headphones in the past. This is my third set of headphones over the years from Aftershokz/Shokz, and my favorite pair yet due to the option to buy the mini size - it fits my head so much better than any previous versions which were only full-sized when I bought them (Trekz Titanium, Aeropex). It's reduced how much they stick out from behind my head, and increased the comfort of them. In the past I've had to wear them for a short while at first as I acclimated to how they press on my head--with this pair, I didn't need to do that. I'm hoping that there's also some increase in durability as my last pair snapped on the side (but still works, technically).I appreciate the quick charge improvement over the previous Aeropex model, and the sound range continues to be good as i run all over the house, leaving my phone in one place. I haven't yet used it much for calls, but the few I've done have been fine (held while in a quiet environment - predecessor had some challenges in noisy environment, understandably).

As someone that spends their entire workday on the phone running a remote team these have been excellent. I wore many earbud styles and most recently the Bose open sport earbuds and other "headphones" as a phone headset for years. They began causing issues with ear infections that i never had before and have not had since going to the on ear style of one of the bose. However, Bose was uncomfortable for long periods due to pinching of upper ear. But was better than in ear. Software was very slow and clunky and often disconnected without notification. Looking for a simple alternative i tried the Shokz out and immediately they are more comfortable and the software has run flawlessly so far. Only con would be that volume can only go so high before its just annoying ... MoreAs someone that spends their entire workday on the phone running a remote team these have been excellent. Only con would be that volume can only go so high before its just annoying buzzing on your temples. I will mention that at first i did get low level phantom buzzing while not wearing them which was odd and concerning. But the occurrence has lessened substantially over time. All in all they have been excellent but for music i would still go with an over the ear model for sound quality like Seinheisers or the Bowers and Wilkins P50's or whatever is their current model. Battery life has been excellent. Design is comfortable but i don't love the need to always wear both and that they are connected. But they are comfortable enough that i forget about that quickly. Probably a bigger concern for those with longer hair as the connection is fairly rigid. So yeah, great for what they are!

I've heard people say the sound quality in these types of headphones is not as good as classic headphones. Maybe I'm rare or unique, but these sound better than any earbuds I've ever tried (and I've owned many different earbuds from many different brands, including some very expansive ones).I don't believe these can do surround sound, so they're not great for gaming, but I really enjoy them for listing to music and/or podcasts while working out or just strolling around town. The fact they're not jammed into my ears is also more comfortable for me, but I won't pretend like I can wear them forever without discomfort either. After wearing them for a few hours the pressure they apply where they're contacting the side of my head is similar to what people who wear glasses go through. Eventually I got used to them, just like wearing glasses, and it wasn't immediate pain nor a long lasting pain, so if one wore them for an hour or two you'd probably be fine as I was. There are over the ear headphones that I own that produce much better sound and do surround sound, but I wouldn't want to wear over the ear headphones for my workouts or even while strolling around town. And, over the ear headphones have the same issue of pain after wearing them for an extended period of time.Heck, earbuds cause my ears to hurt putting them in, and I've gotten pimples/ear-aches on the edges of my ears from earbuds, and I think my ears 'can't breath' with earbuds in.I also like how the open ear lets me hear things going on around me, similar to passthrough or safety modes in earbuds, except these do it passively because they don't block the ears.Granted, if it's really noisy around you it can make it difficult to hear what you're listening to because they don't block out sound, of course.I'm worried about the battery life in future, but so far they've been great.

IMHO the best bluetooth headset for situational awareness
30 March 2023

The Aftershokz brand headsets are an excellent product. They work well when walking around, driving, popping into the store for a gallon of milk, and doing myriad tasks. Being able to follow a podcast or audiobook and pause the stream while you have a brief chat with someone WITHOUT having to remove the headset is wonderful. I recently attended a collectors convention and this headset made walking the convention floor so much nicer. Super lightweight and very comfortable for multi-hour wear. I find this a superior product, bar none, compared to other national brand earbuds. I have had no complaints when used on a phone call. I recently had to replace (due to loss) the second headset and was pleasantly surprised with the softer voice for announcements. So the product is being maintained and improved. This is an excellent product and I don't think you would have any buyer's remorse. I do have two minor nitpicks on the product. First, I would prefer the power switch to be separate from the vol+ button. Second, I wish the included charging cable were a bit longer or that they had a plug adapter that worked with conventional micro-usb plugs. Neither of those nitpicks is a showstopper. This is a seriously solid product that is worth consideration.

Industrial maintenance, Great product!
11 October 2022

I work in industrial maintenance and very hot and loud environments. All of my daily task require that I must wear hearing protection, and I had originally looked into OSHA approved ear buds that would also provide sound protection. Then I ran across these. A friend had a pair and let me try them and I truly was impressed with their performance. I had my doubts since I had only know of over the ear or intra ear headphone/buds. My first experience with them were with out hearing protection in a safer quiet environment, but was greatly surprised when I did put form fitted plugs in that they were even louder (even having to turn them down) in the loudest areas of the facility I work in! The lightweight frame and versatility of allowing me to listen while I work and still use hearing pro is hands down the best experience I had of any headset/buds so far! Even in the loudest environments, they are clear and easy to hear while maintaining a minimal appearance and without frustration of wearability. Great product and highly recommend! I don’t forget they are there because I can hear them but often forget they are there if you catch my drift. Easy to use/wear. I don’t have to worry about them falling out (like buds) or losing them. They fit securely and comfortably but are easily absent of distractions. Truly am impressed with the ingenuity and performance of this product.

I write software that utilizes a lot of text to voice and use of the voice assistant. I've worn aftershockz bone conduction products for years. Buying new versions, losing them, finding them again means I have a pile of these headphones and they are perfect for what they are.The Google assistant experience however is atrocious compared to the competition. The Sony linkbuds s and the pixel buds are currently the experience to emulate. When I want to speak to the assistant those just work every time. With any of the Shockz products this is woefully not the case at all. The tone to start speaking is laggy, then the delay to enable the microphone cuts off the beginning of what was said more often than not. It's nearly useless. The tone to start speaking is laggy, then the delay to enable the microphone cuts off the beginning of what was said more often than not. It's nearly useless. The new Bluetooth standards and apis are all there and the competition appears to utilize these all properly. The experience makes me feel like no one at Shockz actually uses the feature or is aware how poor it is compared to the competition. This is even the case on your newest most top of the line product, which I bought believing this problem may have been fixed. Sadly I don't use them much compared to the open run Mini's that have a better fit.I wrote this up because deep down I just want to have headphones always on me without compromise. If Shockz were to come to market with an assistant experience that isn't outright frustrating I'd wear them for the rest of my life and buy every new version you release as the years go on.

Super comfy and useful for biking
23 February 2023

My OpenRun with the new small band fits great among all the other stuff on my head while biking - headband, helmet, glasses all nestle around or under or over the Shokz with no muss or fuss, it just all comes together easily when put on in the right order. I'm amazed at the comfort of the small band, even though I thought I had a big head. I did the measurements and came in just under the threshold so crossed my fingers and got the short band. Totally happy with that; believe the numbers on the tape when you measure. Of course, having my ears open lets me listen for traffic or birds or ice cream trucks while still being able to hear navigation instructions, music, podcasts, or fitness tracker prompts. The volume goes up high enough without getting "buzzy" to hear on ... MoreMy OpenRun with the new small band fits great among all the other stuff on my head while biking - headband, helmet, glasses all nestle around or under or over the Shokz with no muss or fuss, it just all comes together easily when put on in the right order. Of course, having my ears open lets me listen for traffic or birds or ice cream trucks while still being able to hear navigation instructions, music, podcasts, or fitness tracker prompts. The volume goes up high enough without getting "buzzy" to hear on all but the busiest fastest roads. My only ding on sound is that the microphone is not as good for office work as previous Shokz iterations - callers report to me that I sound more tinny and further away than I did on my previous OpenMove. The obvious answer to that is to get am OpenComm for work and just use the OpenRun when outside. The magnetic charging port is nifty and works great, and won't wear out like the insertable USB plugs do sometimes, but I'm a little worried about having just one little proprietary cord to keep track of and being stuck out in the world without it. With previous designs I could use a generic USB cord to charge up if needed. Anyone on the fence about these headsets just take the leap you will be so glad you did!

Try in store, No Returns on this product

I thought I would love this product SHOKZ OPENRUN Bone Conduction Sport Headphones. I received a pair as a gift and was excited to try them. I was able to pair it to my cell phone easily and loved the lightweight, flexible material and the non-intrusive over the ear lobe design. That is where my love for this product ends.First issue is with the behind the head headband: not as advertised as they are NOT STABLE NOR A COMFORTABLE FIT If you wear hoddies or collared shirt you will find the product gets snagged or caught in your clothes, leaving you with a sense that the headset may fall off and isn't secure.Second issue, the thumping feeling on the ear bone: after using the headset for a 5-minute phone call it left me feeling nauseated.Broken hearted for having ... MoreI thought I would love this product SHOKZ OPENRUN Bone Conduction Sport Headphones. We paired it to his IPad with no issues and he looped them on to his ears and within 2 minutes understood what I had felt with the thumping feeling on the ear bone. He will not be able to use this product either. I felt bad, times are tough, money is tight for everyone. To avoid waiting in a line up I decided to call BestBuy before heading to the store to try and get our money back. I was informed that since the plastic seal had been removed and the product had been used, we would not be getting a refund.I reached out to the Happiness Team and was informed that since the product had not been purchased directly from their Website they would not be able to refund the product. It's unfortunate that manufacturers no longer stand behind their products we are simply to buy products and hope for the best. 10 minutes of use and $147.00 later not impressed.*I give the SHOKZ OPENRUNBONE CONDUCTION SPORT HEADPHONES 0 starsThis review site will not allow me to submitt my review unless I add a star rating.
