Bored of cheap knifes so asked a chef friend where to go and what to buy. Saved a a lot of time and effort browsing. A beautiful knife. Fantastic service. Delighted customer

This is a hybrid knife somewhat between a chefs knife and a cleaver. Heavy enough with minimal effort to slice a tomato and veggies with an easy draw. Put a little more effort and steaks and chicken are sliced apart. Cut the side of my finger as I am getting familiar with this knife. Chefs knives are 8 in and other prep knives are 6 in,foolish me for my ignorance as I am used to . For the price, this is excellent. Under 50 bucks, go buy it! Razor sharp right out of the blister pack.

Just the right size and shape. Light and very sharp. I can do most of what I would do with a paring knife and a chef's knife. I still reserve those knives for very fine work or cutting through tough vegetables.

I bought this knife to give a friend, and she couldn't be happier. She says she seldom uses any other knife. It's the perfect size and weight for most kitchen tasks, and it's very sharp. Plus, it's gorgeous. A work of art that doubles as an essential kitchen tool.
There are lots of high-end Japanese knives out there, but for me, the Shun knives are the ticket. With a nice mix of stainless steel and carbon, the knives hold their edge good and don't rust. Another nice thing I like about Shun is the balance... they are balanced nicely. Also, they can be used with either the right or left hand (which is something a lot of knives can't say). And lastly, there is the money issue. Shun knives are priced very competitively. You can spend a lot more money and not get any better of a knife.
Good handling although the perfectly round handle crossection doesn’t give one as good a tactile sense of the blade position. Also wish the blade were deeper for more knuckle riding. Excellent sharpness. Super light.
Takes up little space in a small station but functions well for a service knife in place of a 8 or 10” chef knife… does not replace either, but during service when it’s loaded up and a tight space has shrunk to negative space…this knife is nimble and precise and and unlike other “utility” knives I’d holds and and maneuvers like a chef life due to the shape of the blade. In addition, it’s great for various prep tasks that the chef knife may be too big too long or or wide to execute efficiently.Any shun I’ve ever used has been excellent and well worth the $… you can spend far more $ on a knife that functions much worse….
I had a utility knife for years. It was getting old, etc . . Eventually the wooden handle broke. I really missed that knife and started looking on-line for a replacement. After viewing several options at Sur La Table, this one was the most similar to the size of my last one. When it arrived I couldn't have been more thrilled. It was my old knife only sharper and better constructed.
beautiful piece of culinary art.love it. Thank you.
Love all my Shun knives. Slowly getting my ideal set together. Found this utility knife on sale so I snapped it up. It is a good size and like the others, feels great in my hand.
