I purchased this microphone as a gift for "Professional" Western Swing artist, "Mikki Daniel." We took this microphone straight out of the box and put it on a Theater stage for her to perform a "Western Swing tribute to Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys" show in Waco, Texas! The microphone almost glowed when the spot lights aimed down at it with it's polished steel look, and it performed flawlessly with perfectly clear vocals!! This is the microphone for the entertainer who performs older styles of music and is wanting that vintage look and feel. Check out the photo! I think Mikki Daniel loves it too! Had mine over 10 years. It is the only mic I have used during this time. I immediately removed the on/off switch to prevent accidentally turning it off. Then took an old Peavey metal mic case and customized it to fit the 55SH. I play bars, boats, floats, churches, weddings, auctions, golf tournaments, special events, etc. Temperature ranges from 100 degrees in locked Jeep to 20 below here in Maine. Hasn't damaged the mic. I typically use it "Elvis style" plugged into my Trace Acoustic combo amp which sits behind me. Kill the 10K Hz EQ on the amp and NO feedback despite close proximity in front of the amp. Looks great and incredibly rugged.

This microphone is amazing. I bought it for the look, and the sound was a very pleasant surprise. I read a lot of reviews that said negative things about the way it sounds, but I find I prefer the way it makes my voice sound over the shure sm58 that I used to use (and is now just a backup). It's great for live performances and for me it is a real confidence booster. I'm always getting complements on it. I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a top quality sound; there are better mics that will leave a smaller dent in your pocket. If image is important to you, this is your mic. I love it.

I see rave reviews for this microphone, and obviously I must have received a defective item, because I have never, in 38 years used a microphone as awful as this one. I have wanted this microphone for a long time. I mean, it looks cool as all get out, and live performance was built on this microphone. So, I plug it in and expect a great, booming signal... tinny as can be. No low end to speak of at all. I adjust the EQ to make it sound "decent", and as soon as I touch the housing, our local radio station breaks through louder than I can make my voice. What a disappointment!
Was concerned when I plugged it in and got very little sound out of it. Have heard this microphone needed more mixing that other shure microphones. After using a 1/4" adapter and plugging into a different port on the mixer, the microphone now performs at the same output as my other shure mic's. Haven't determined where the issue is, but suspect the cable or mixer rather than the mic. I am very happy with it!
I'm always surprised by how great it sounds. Long time jazz, blues, swing, etc. artist. I can sing right into it, play my harmonica directly into it, and back off and play my trumpet into it, and always sounds great. Many years of faithful service. Other bands keep trying to buy it from me, especially when they hear the sound, which is what it's really all about. Fall in like with the looks, fall in love with the sound.

Some situations straight thru other situations require the impedance transformer, you have try it one way or the other to obtain the optimum result. Not all mics have the same output impedance and the equipment the same input impedance that is were the microphone transformer is essential to expand the use of any microphone. I use the 55SH for karaoke and also use it for my amateur radio station voice communications its a outstanding mic for both types of single point uses one of which the microphone transformer is required. This is the benchmark for Sports PA Announcing! I use this microphone over the SM58S time and again. It puts me in the zone for Football, Basketball, and Baseball Announcing each time I step up to the mic.
The look and sound of this mic is fantastic. Yet, its versatility is what sets it apart. Designed to be used in front of high volume amplifiers, it also excels in an acoustic environment. Love it.
Male bass/baritone vocalist used in church one week for an old school spiritual. The next week a female soprano/alto sang a more modern piece accompanied by an acoustic guitar. Both performances received loud ovations in a Lutheran Church. Clapping during offering normally doesn't happen. So I think it may be the mic.
