$141.99

(2,406 reviews)

Shure SM7B Vocal Microphone The Shure SM7B is a vocal microphone with a smooth, flat, and wide-range frequency response appropriate for music and speech in professional audio applications. The mic's specially engineered dynamic capsule provides a smooth, polished vocal sound with a rich response in the lower frequency registers, making the mic a favorite choice among broadcasters and podcasters. It features a cardioid polar pattern, bass roll-off, and midrange emphasis (presence boost) controls, and shielding against broadband interference. An internal air suspension shock isolation helps to eliminate mechanical noise transmission, and a yoke mount facilitates mounting and provides precise control of the mic position. Flat, Wide-Range Frequency Response The flat-frequency response enhances the midrange and high frequencies that are associated with the human voice. Rejection of Electromagnetic Hum Improved rejection of electromagnetic hum—optimized for shielding against broadband interference emitted by computer monitors. Air Suspension Shock Isolation Internal air-suspension shock isolation virtually eliminates mechanical-noise transmission. Pop Filter The detachable close-talk windscreen eliminates the need for any add-on protection against explosive breath sounds—even for close-up vocals or narration. Cardioid Polar Pattern The classic cardioid pick-up pattern is designed to reject off-axis audio, so you can sing or speak at a comfortable angle. And, it captures the sound with minimum coloration, isolating the signal source helps to reduce feedback issues.

Even with just the small foam cover that it had out of the box, I was able to whistle into the mic with virtually zero breathe or wind noise from the blowing, which is outstanding. The only downdraw is the gain level on the mic is naturally low. There are a couple adjustments you can make on the back of the mic, but A gain booster is definitely needed and recording module for your pc if you are looking to record too, which turns this mic into a very pricey purchase, but it is also hard to go wrong with something that has a lot of community support behind this mic. This mic is also a bit on the heavy side, so you will need a proper mic stand or heavy duty boom to support it. Overall the vocal production is super smooth and clean, the foam wind socks give you options for evviromental noise reduction. You can't really beat this mic quality. If you are just getting started it may seem like a lot with having to get an xlr cable, gain booster, recorder module, but in the end you will have a fantastic mic that won't let you down. Would definitely recommend!

The SM7B feels great, slim and smooth, and its construction feels reliable and sturdy, though I personally limited my usage to studio and workspace recording. In my testing, the SM7B sounds amazing. It has just a very clean output for my instruments and vocals alike. It performs exceptionally well in my small, soundproofed studio affixed with foam wall fixtures. But I was more impressed with the sound quality in a non-optimal, unfixed bedroom environment. The flat, wide-range frequency response is unmatched; there is zero feedback and no static interference whatsoever, even around several operating laptops, two external monitors, and numerous electronic devices. The included windscreen makes up-close vocals and whispers move without the pops and crackles of lesser microphones. Bottom line, this is the microphone that provides the professional performance you need to be taken seriously in any recording environment. Shure's SM7B is everything you need in a dynamic microphone, with its rugged build, versatile application, and unparalleled quality. The brand you should trust with your recording needs did it again, and it isn't a surprise. This is the mic you want to have. Full disclosure, I received this product for my honest, unbiased review.

However, once its dialed in it is fine, just not amazing in its own right. Due to its requirement to have additional equipment or support to function properly its not as attractive of an offer compared to other microphones. I noticed a large majority of people looking at this mic are would-be streamers, or the novice. YOU DO NOT NEED THIS MICROPHONE. For the vast majority of you the equipment you already own is more than enough for your uses and owning this mic WILL NOT improve your quality to that "High Production Recording" you're looking for (ie: Talking, Streaming, etc.). I would look at other options that fit your uses before considering this mic. Improving your mic setup and everything else in your signal chain should be higher on your priority list. As always, try out the mic and see how you sound before buying if able. Do your research. I'm hoping to prevent a vast majority of you from buyers remorse. All is not doom and gloom. The included windscreens, replaceable back-plate, integrated mount, and build quality are great. I especially like the mounting nut on the mount itself as it doesn't require any washers to properly orient itself unlike other microphones i have used. As mentioned earlier, i would highly recommend other less expensive options or mics that can deliver what you're looking for without the added hassle or effort.

FEATURES: • The switches under a cover at the back end allow you to set up the dynamic response of the mic. Shifting curves give you a visual indication of what frequencies you are pushing or reducing. • Excellent sound reproduction. • Fits standard mic mounts. • The Cardioid sound pick-up pattern is very direction and ignores sounds coming from anywhere in the room except the front making it a VERY quiet mic for studio use. • Two Year Limited Warranty. PROS: • Pop Filter, Air Suspension and Shock Isolation assure only the voice gets through without ambient studio noise. • Advance electromagnetic shielding prevents interference or hum from monitors and computers in the studio. CONS: • At this level of mic, it’s assumed you’re probably upgrading your system, so if you don’t already have certain other audio items like Mic Stand, Cable or Mic Activator, you’ll have to purchase them separately to begin using this mic. It won’t simply plug into your cell phone. CONCLUSION: The SM7B Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone won’t hold you back in creating excellent sound quality.

It's Better Than I Imagined.

CONCLUSION: The Shure SM7B needs no introduction as it has developed an almost trendy/illustrious status and has been on my list for a very long time. My expectations going in were high and I was not left disappointed. I have never used a nicer microphone and it fits my voice perfectly. The build quality is spectacular. It is extremely clear and rejects other noises extremely well making it perfect for broadcast, live vocals, singing, instruments, live streaming, and product reviews. But if I’m being honest is probably overkill for most individuals and you can get most of that sound for A LOT cheaper. I find it to be endgame (for most). Especially for those who are going for that radio voice as it has strong mids and bass while still capturing highs well. But depending on your voice can come off as a bit muddy/bassy and if you are really wanting to focus on highs I’d go with a different microphone. The most surprising thing I’ve found is that due to the illustrious status this microphone has I find that when I am using it that I feel like what I’m saying is important, that it has some authority to it, and that I’m a professional making me perform better. And when I listen back to my recordings I go dang, I sound good as it picks up the subtly of my voice. And that feeling alone is hard to find and will make it worth it for most people. In the end it is an easy recommendation. As the cons really come down to personal preference over it doing anything inherently poorly. BUILD/SOUND QUALITY: This microphone feels premium, and the build quality is excellent. It appears well thought out and is mostly made from metal and has a bunch of fancy things going on inside to reduce mechanical noises, hum, breathiness, and impact sounds making your recordings nearly silent except for your voice. It comes with two different windscreens. Most will use the one that is already on it, the other is thicker. On the back of the device, you have some adjustments that include high pass filter and mid-frequency boost. When you switch them to on you can see the line go from flat to bumpy reflecting these changes which I think is awesome. But most will stick to doing EQ on the software side. It also comes with a switch cover plate if you won’t be adjusting them and want them covered. Or you can leave it open. The XLR port is placed in an awkward spot and can limit overall movement and almost forces certain directions. Which is really my only con. But does come with a Velcro strap to keep the XLR cord to the stand. If you are using a cheaper boom arm this microphone is relatively heavy which could be an issue as well. With the cardioid polar pattern, it being a dynamic microphone, and the proximity effect, it makes it so it really only picks up what is in front of you and rejects most of what is going on around you (within reason). I found that when I was streaming that it barely picked up my voice even with clicky mechanical switches. The proximity effect is pretty strong, and you really want to use this microphone from a few inches away for the best sound. It rapidly drops off the further you get. So, if you don’t want a microphone right in your face then this isn’t a good option. The noise floor is nearly non-existent due to all of this. But since it requires a TON of gain you may want to invest in a Cloud Lifter to reduce if needed. This really comes down to your Audio Interface. I have the GoXLR Mini and it was able to provide enough power with some overhead without causing too many issues. But you may want to check with the audio interface you have or will be buying to make sure it has enough power to run this well.

One of the best dynamic mics out there
27 April 2022

The Shure SM7B is pretty much a known commodity, and for good reason. Unboxing the mic is a lovely, albeit standard, experience. You’re greeted with the mic and not much else. To get the SM7B up and running you’ll need a mic stand or arm, an audio interface, and XLR cables. Nicely, you don’t need a phantom power source to use it. Once you’re set-up, there are a couple of things to note, feature use, of the mic. First is that you have on-board frequency response filters, which are good to correct certain audio issues right on the mic itself during recording. The SM7B is perfect for those looking for correct vocal reproduction without having to do much post-processing at the end of a session. The SM7B is perfect for those looking for correct vocal reproduction without having to do much post-processing at the end of a session. The vocals produced are clear, crisp, and have just the right amount of bass attached. It’s a very neutral sound stage, which is what most vocalists and podcasters alike are striving for. The mic also does an excellent job of minimizing room noise, specifically if the room is already audio-treated, to begin with. Speaking of filtering noise, the included pop filter is a great one, and a nice touch for a premium mic. The reality is, that the SM7B is a fantastic studio mic. I don’t view it as the perfect companion to take with you to various gigs, but having a permanent spot in your recording arsenal or setup would be welcome. The only two drawbacks of this mic are the cost, and that it weighs a bit more than your standard dynamic mic would weigh. The reality is, this mic is geared towards heavy, semi-professional, and up, use. Plus, there isn’t any other way to record audio other than through XLR outputs. So, if you don’t fall into this category of users there’s probably a better microphone out there for you, that will present better value. But, if you crave the sound fidelity and build quality of something like the Shure SM7B, there’s not much else around to recommend that will be this great of the mic in this price range.

Step Up Your Game With Clarity Beyond Belief

The Shure SM7B microphone is well known in the recording industry & in premium live gigs. I placed the SM7B above my cymbals on my drum kit. The presence of the hard hitting crash is beyond amazing! It will take up to 180dB without clipping, making it ideal for drums & cymbal sound recording & reproduction. I select the presence boost (emphasizes the midrange) which rolls off the bass. That is the secret to the sweetest cymbal sound I have ever heard. You can also select bass boost for close-up voice pick-up. The SM7B is ruggedly built, making it ideal for moving it from gig to gig, without worry. The yoke mounting facilitates easy installation & removal. Even with the gain cranked up, I have no hum, despite a myriad of electronic gear in close proximity. This mic has internal shielding just to eliminate hum. This will be particularly important in Podcasting & Streaming, where you will not encounter interference from monitors & other electronic equipment. A built-in pop filter is extremely effective for close-to-your-mouth audio pick-up. The cardioid pick-up pattern is very effective at rejecting sounds that are off-axis. CONCLUSION: The Shure SM7B added clarity to my kit that is beyond belief! It earned my highest recommendation.

The GOLD STANDARD for vocal microphones
2 May 2022

This microphone is the gold standard for vocal recording, and I can't believe that I used anything else before now. What's the secret to the sauce? While besides the decades of experience backed by the Shure name, this microphone features a VERY defined cardioid pickup pattern. What's a cardioid? Why do I care? If you're asking these questions, I'll simplify it by saying this: if you're recording in a situation where you want the least amount of background noise, this is the pattern for you. Especially vocal recordings, podcasters, and the like, will enjoy the dynamic range that won't clip or cut out at loud sounds like you do with condenser microphones. The pickup range is not directional, but you do need to be conscious of distance, as I'm sure you'll find once ... MoreThis microphone is the gold standard for vocal recording, and I can't believe that I used anything else before now. The pickup range is not directional, but you do need to be conscious of distance, as I'm sure you'll find once you start using it. I did use this microphone plugged into an audio interface into my computer, so that may have introduced a tiny bit of noise, but I was blown away by the results I got from recording. This is nothing like the lower cost and less dedicated microphones I have used in the past. Very well made, as you would expect from a microphone at this price point, and the frequency response modes are set by sliders on the back of the mic. The mounting and cable connector are set up for a boom arm or a stand. Because of the integrated pop filter cover for this microphone I toyed with the idea of using it without a pop filter, but I think i'm just too "spitty" for that, so I've shifted to using one. I highly recommend this microphone. If you're someone who records vocals, spoken word, etc, this will change your game.

The defacto standard

If you search the Shure SM7B on Google, one of the top ads from Shure identifies it as "The Mic You've Already Heard." It's true--I've seen plenty of podcast videos with the SM7B in the studio. Ever since I started using the Shure MV7 as my day-to-day microphone, I've wanted to make the leap to the SM7B but always hesitated. Price was one of those big reasons...the SM7B is no doubt a quality piece of gear, but it comes with a $400 price tag. If you're in the business of any type of audio production, this may not be much...but I'm anything but in the business. I love gadgets, and over the last two years (thanks, COVID...) I've worked to incorporate higher-quality sound and video production into my regular 9-to-5. Exceedingly better studio speakers, audio interfaces, amplifiers and proper microphones have all found their way to my desk setup at home. For what you ask? Better video conferences, of course. So as ridiculous as that may sound, here's a hot take on the SM7B. It is a very quiet microphone, quieter than the other XLR mics I've used in the past. An audio interface with the ability to add gain is a requirement at a minimum, but if that gain isn't clean you might find yourself needing a preamp booster (Cloudlifter, or similar). There is only an XLR connection, so an audio interface of some sort is required. Shure also sells an XLR to microphone adapter called the X2u, which might work in place of a traditional audio interface and preamp booster. The back of the mic allows for some basic on-device adjustment ("Flat Response," "Bass Rolloff" and "Presence Boost"). Depending on how you mount the SM7B and the quality and size of your XLR connections, you may find you need (as I did) an extension tube to allow for complete movement once mounted. I have a desk-mounted boom arm and purchased Shure's A26X 3" extension tube to allow for the most flexibility when positioning the arm and the mic (If your setup is more static, this extension tube may not be a requirement). The SM7B itself looks great, as you'd expect from Shure products. It has solid construction and sounds great, once properly amplified. Is it overkill for someone who doesn't do any professional sound production? Probably--even the MV7 was a bit overkill for that. Hopefully, though, you have a slightly better handle on the other pieces that may be required alongside the SM7B to add to your setup.

The most popular and the most wanted, no wonder!

Well let's start by clarifying some important points to consider before purchasing this great microphone. It requires an audio interface or a voice recorder that allows you to connect the microphone with a XLR cable, this microphone does not require phantom power however for a higher quality result, it is recommended to use a preamp which may require phantom power, as this microphone is of very good quality but is required to raise the gain and a preamp can help you to have enough volume with the least possible noise and pair headphones to monitor the volume levels of your voice. The unboxing is easy and simple, inside the box you will find the documentation, sticker, user guide and the microphone, XLR cable is not included. I have a desktop mic stand, a voice recorder zoom h6 and a Dynamite in-line preamp, recording at 4100 hz at 24-bit, WAV format. From the first moment I started testing I noticed that it is not only the audio quality that makes this microphone great, but actually the amount of noise it raises is very minimal and even without editing, the result you get is very good, and in post production can be improved further. On the back of the microphone you can modify the frequency response, it will depend on the type of voice, tastes and needs of each person, in any of the possible configurations, the result is unmatched. It seems to me that the design is serious but at the same time attractive, it is a very popular microphone and used by many content creators and streamers, I have no doubt that it is one of the best alternatives. Currently I create content for YT and this microphone certainly raises the quality of my videos, looks great and one of the things that impresses me is that without the help of any software has an impressive control of the very high frequencies that can get to pick up the microphone, I mean that this microphone does not distort the sound when you speak very close to it or you get to shout or raise your voice by accident, it's really amazing, hence why when streaming is a great ally, I really do not find cons in this microphone Shure SM7B if we consider what is required to get the best result of it. Whether for voice recording, instruments, podcast, streaming, content creation, this microphone will not disappoint you, on the contrary it will surely surprise you, I definitely recommend it highly.
