Currently writing this while lens is on intial release firmware.Overall excellent purchase and certainly for L mount the best 24-70/2.8. All the reviews out there will report it is compact, sharp, fast, etc. Has all the buttons, weather gasket, etc. Some lesser discussed elements: You cannot focus this lens while zooming, e.g for a slow dolly or rack zoom. This is an issue that is fairly obscure and possibly related to the camera firmware. The declickable aperture is not fully smooth during iris racks, however it is significantly smoother while declicked in video mode than photo mode. It is good enough for iris racks for videography but not up to standard for cinema. Finally it must be noted that the linear focus throw adjustment is not currently available on ... When I received the lens the first thing, I noticed was the quality of the packaging to protect the lens through shipping.I unwrapped it and took a short walk around the neighborhood taking some shots.I was really impressed with the craftsmanship of the lens and how well it was constructed.Upon processing I couldn't help but notice how sharp the images were particularly on one that I had cropped to enlargement.I'm sure glad I researched and decided on purchasing this particular lens.

I shot on all primes for a long time as I valued the image quality. But I shoot run and gun brand content solo and swaping lenses on the fly was taking to much time. I needed flexibilty so I added this to my kit.The image quality is indistinguishable from my sigma primes. I use this for both photo (sony a7riii) and video (fx6) and the auto focus is great even for video. To me its as good as native glass.I love the addition of the aperture ring. And the lock and declick function. The zoom is the perfect stiffness. Not to loose and not to tight. It holds well and does not slip. Some cheeper lenses are loose and I hate that. Not here!!This has quickly become my favorite lens.

This lens is freakishly sharp.I run my RAW files through DxO PureRAW 4 (using the DeepPRIME processing module, which does a perfectly fine job and is super fast), and the results are stunning, even compared to the first version of this lens (which I have been using regularly since it was introduced).Get this lens. I, at least, am very impressed! (And, if you're not using PureRAW, give it a try. Combined with a stellar lens like this, it's a hard to beat combo.)I've posted a photo of Mt. Rainier and a close up of a small selection of the image, an upper part of the mountain showing the extreme detail even with some detail attenuation due to aerial perspective.
I am a beginner photographer and recently upgraded to Sony a7iii. Bought this lens to complement the other recent purchase of Sigma 85mm 1.4 Prime lens, and overall loving this Sigma line of lenses. I have only tried this lens for a few shots here and there, and simply amazed at the photo quality. The f-stop adjustment ring on the lens is a great feature and giving additional flexibility. Would absolutely recommend this lens.
I owned the original 24-70 f/2.8 for L mount, and a very, very good question one might ask is: why upgrade?First, I’m a photographer, I don’t do much video. But the aperture ring appealed to my heart, as the size and weight reduction did to my head. There’s not a lot of difference in size and weight, but it’s noticeable in the hand on my S5II. It’s much better balanced. The aperture ring is a nice addition, even if it’s somewhat awkward with Panasonic’s PASM setup. “A” on the aperture ring isn’t particular useful — that just means you can only adjust it with the camera dial instead of the ring. As far as I can tell, there is no mode on the S5II where you can both set the aperture with the ring *and* when the ring is set to A have the camera chose the aperture. I ... As far as I can tell, there is no mode on the S5II where you can both set the aperture with the ring *and* when the ring is set to A have the camera chose the aperture. I might be wrong, but i haven’t encountered the combination of mode and settings that would do that. But that’s fine, because I prefer aperture priority or manual for my work. The aperture ring lock switch on the lens lets you either lock the aperture ring in A *or* lock it *out of A*, which is a fantastic feature. So if I’m in a mode where the ring will set the aperture, I can lock the lens out of A and always set it that way.Optically the lens is as good as the original 24-70, which I had no complaints with. So, I upgraded for the aperture ring, weight, and size. And I’m very happy. I just wish the hood were a bit smaller, and that we had an L mount camera akin to the Nikon Zf. This lens would pair perfectly with it.
This is a great 24-70mm, sharpness and rendering are great from f/2.8. AF is fast and silent, lot of controls (aperture ring, MF switch, custom button, etc). I bought and returned the Sony 24-70 GMII multiple times because of some tilt issue impacting the right side of the image at 50mm (seems to be a design issue as others have reported the same). This Sigma is half the price and doesn't have any uniformity issue. It's a keeper !
This lens is fantastic. Tho not my favorite lens option due to mainly shooting primes. This 24/70 is amazing in term of optical quality, the autofocus is just incredible. A huge step up from the Sony 24-105 and Fujifilm xf16-55 that I part exchanged for it. Being half the price of the Sony GM equivalent with very little difference this is a bargain. As much as I’d rather shoot with primes, this is an essential purchase for any events photographer shooting Sony. Delighted with my purchase and the service received from Carmarthen Cameras.
The Sigma 24-70 Art II lens takes the already very capable version 1 to new levels of capability, usability and features. Being part of the L-Mount alliance, Sigma has ensured seamless integration into the Lumix ecosystem. The lens is fast, sharp and produces very clean images in still and video alike. Very (very!) hard to criticise this amazing addition to my camera bag; pro quality at a great price point - ten out of ten.
It is indeed the best third party lens for Sony system that I have used so far. Auto focus is very fast. Might be the fastest third party lens for Sony up to today. Build quality is very nice. The zoom ring turns more smoothly than Sony 2470GM II. Image quality is great. The only negative that I can think about is the direction of zoom ring. It is opposite to Sony and Tamron lens. That is quite annoying. If this is the only lens you have. Yes you can get used to it. But we are constantly change lens from Sony, Tamron to this sigma lens. It is simply no way to get used to opposite direction. I do not know why sigma make such descion.
