(A gripe from every influencer out there.) Yet they still buy the competition and rig it out anyway. I am a video producer / cinematographer by trade. There hasn't been a time in my career where I didn't pull focus, connect an external monitor system of some sort or write to a giant card or external card on you guessed it... a rig. That's the life of cinematographers. So with this small camera I find it amazing that I can get a highly portable professional rig to put in places larger rigs could only dream of fitting in.Who is this for? This is for someone who has their main video rig for their pro gigs and needs a crazy amazing B cam or second cam that can also shoot behind the scenes photography. This is for the hobbyist / cinematographer / content creator who wants that movie quality look easily without having to drop $5K-$10K for full frame cinema quality footage at 12-14 bit. Note that I said Full Frame. I know the BMPCC exists but unfortunately it has a Micro 4/3 crop. The camera definitely takes some getting used to. Its not for everyone. If you want to run and gun. It will do it, but slower than most. I am not gonna say its the best. I did subtract a star for the rolling shutter, and the file sizes are pretty large. Again someone in the business should be prepared for this. For the money and suite of super affordable i-series sigma glass... its hard to beat. Hope this helps someone because there isn't much positive out there for this camera and there should be.

For video, this beats everything out there, unless you are shooting an Arri or RED at a MUCH higher price point (ie, unaffordable for most people). This camera records 12-bit RAW DNG un-encoded video at over 2.5 Mbps bitrate, that is 4:4:4 color, and without any need for an external recorder. But, you will need to use a small external USB drive (like the Samsung T5) to capture such image data. The image quality is truly outstanding with richer colors than any of the other hybrid cameras. As for photo quality , the images are extremely clean and great in low light. Most people do not need to shoot at ISO over 64,000, but if you do then of course you will need even larger pixels. On the other hand, if you are a professional landscape shooter, then there are probably not enough pixels here to satisfy you. But as an occasional landscape shooter, I simply stitch images together for outstanding results, where no one can tell the difference between this and a larger medium format camera.Lastly, I would like to point out that there is probably a mistake in the Sigma literature about the dynamic range of this camera. I am getting over 15-stops of dynamic range from photos from this camera, at least at the base ISO. Maybe they are averaging across the full range of ISO, when they advertise 13-stops. Needless to say, I am VERY, VERY happy with the performance of this camera. As for possible negatives, it would nice to have a small viewfinder. And, it would be nice to have 5-axis IBIS. And, it would be nice to have the option of a mechanical shutter. However, if any of these capabilities compromise the tiny size of this camera, then I would say no to any of them. The small size and modular nature of this camera make it the perfect hybrid photo/video camera, for me.

I wouldn't have paid 1 dollar more than 1200$ which would have been the appropriate price for such a camera as it's main competitor is the Blackmagic pocket camera. When compared side by side against the Sony Alpha 7RII which now sells for 1398$ and has almost twice the resolution of this sensor (both sensors are back side illuminated), the Sony blows away the Sigma fp in every department: speed, image quality, mechanical shutter, flash sync speed, sensor based image stabilization, tilty flippy screen and I could go on and on. If you're getting a brand new Sony Alpha 7RII 400$ cheaper, why would anyone want to cough up 1800$ for Sigma fp.2. The main reason however for me to drop the Sigma fp was Sigma's full frame foveon sensor L-mount camera. My main and only purpose of investing in the L-mount system was the full frame foveon sensor. Since foveon cannot do video, the Sigma fp would have been the L-mount video camera to fill that void. Since there's a lot of uncertainty regarding the future of that foveon full frame sensor, I do not find it logical to gamble on an entirely new mount especially given all the shortcomings of the Sigma fp vs Sony Alpha 7RII mentioned in point 1.Therefore for me the Sony Alpha 7RII, which not only trounces Sigma fp in every department, it also leaves an additional 400$ in my pocket to purchase a top quality lens i.e. a 1399$ Sigma 40mm f/1.4 Art now effectively costs $999.

Hidden gem of the full-frame camera world
10 December 2022

This camera is the hidden little gem of the camera world. Its only real weakness is the auto-focus system, which is not phase-based but contrast-based. This leads to slow auto-focus performance. Also, there is no in-body image stabilization, like the Sony A7 series. Those are the main complaints.Everything else is amazing. Superb color science and IQ, cinema-grade video, phenomenal low-light performance. I moved over to the fp from a Sony A7iii, which was a fine camera. But this camera...I just have fallen in love with it. It has changed my photography game drastically.I expect the Mark II will use a phase-based auto-focus system, fixing the major weakness with this platform. For IS, you have to rely on IS lenses.

No Battery Charger Included
23 October 2022

BEWARE! Or rather "Be Aware."I love the camera so I've given it five stars, but you should be aware that there's no charger included in the kit. They give you a few inexpensive add-ons, but no charger. Then, the proper USB charger, the Sigma BC-71, costs NINETY-FIVE DOLLARS. So that raises the cost of the kit if you want the USB charger. And you'll have to order it separately. It looks like the BC-51 (which just has a cord that goes to the wall outlet) should also work with this battery.

Pleasant Experience
15 March 2023

I am taking the time to review my recent experience with Adorama. It was wonderful, I just finished trading in most of my used camera gear to upgrade for newer equipment. The staff was polite and took the time to give me a fair assessment of my equipment. I was then allowed the time to choose another camera from their vast inventory. After I chose my new equipment delivery was very quick. I would rate the whole experience as great. Am looking forward to enjoying my new camera and lens.

Quirky, but outstanding image quality
14 February 2023

Many seem turned off by the design approach of this camera...stripped to the bare essentials, electronic shutter only, heavy video emphasis. I rented this camera to try it out, and was blown away by the still image quality, especially in low-light situations. Definitely not a sports or wildlife camera, but if your subject is slow-moving or stationary, you'll love the image quality and the color rendition. The bundled 45mm lens is great, small and light, and super-sharp resolution. The menu system is straightforward and I found it intuitive. The camera and lens are a great small combo, easy to grab on your way out the door and carry with you. It's not for everyone, but if you're on the fence, rent one and see for yourself.

Simply phenomenal imagery

RAW files from the fp L are simply phenomenal. The color, resolution and just something else that brings it all together are amazing. After several hundred still images I'm still kind of shocked at how good they are. B&W conversions are excellent. Dynamic range is outstanding.Yes, the camera is quirky (with the excellent EVF) but it's fairly straightforward to use. It's compact, but of course the lenses can be big. So far, I've used it with the Sigma 14-24/2.8, 24/3.5, 35/2 and Leica SL 50/2.I shoot mostly landscapes, but I've also shot the dog and family without any weird electronic shutter artifacts.I wish the on/off button was a different format, but other than that there's not much else I'd change. Tiny beast
5 August 2022

The size, modular expansion capabilities, and color science were what attracted me to this camera. I have no real need for the raw output, but it's amazing a camera in this price range has it. I especially like the menu system on the fp - it's very quick to find what I want. This isn't my primary system, but the ability to add/remove components let this transform for all types of uses. I've also been pleased with the performance of the i series lenses I've tried. If the next Sigma Foveon camera also uses L mount I could see myself going all-in on Sigma for both stills and video.
