Sikkens Woodcare Products 1L Cetol 7 Filter Plus Light Oak Timber Stain

Excellent coverage and protection of outdoor woods. Ive used Sikkens for over 30 years on everything from sheds to window sills and garage doors. I have just painted a new shed hence the purchase. I only wish I had used the Filter 7 stain first but the 3 coats of HLS will protect the shed for at least 5 years. Next Day Paint offered the cheapest price.

Tried a few products on my 20 year old cabin/summerhouse.over the years and this is by far the best. Great coverage and a good oak colour that covered well even on silvered/grey timber. Arrived next day in great packaging making it virtually impossible to spill. Will definitely be using again.

Clear but sticky

Sikkens produce a wide range of wood stains, so it is difficult to know which one to use without personal advice. As I bought this stain through eBay during the "lockdown", this was not possible. The can arrived without a product sheet, and few instructions are included on the can. On checking the Sikkens website, a full range of product sheets are available, but the one for Cetol Filter 7 plus has been withdrawn! I have used Sadolin Classic extensively as a wood stain, and this is thin to apply and penetrates deeply into soft wood and deteriorated hard wood. The job in hand was restoration of previously varnished oak french windows. Although the Cetol F7+ is clear so that the underlying wood grain remain visible as advertised, I was surprised to find the product has a consistency more like treacle (slightly diluted). It does give a lovely finish with light oak coloration, but I don't know how deeply it penetrates, especially where the oak has weathered. I have therefore taken to applying a wood preservative first. I will then apply the Sikkens after the preservative has thoroughly dried. A final point is that without product literature, I don't know how many coats I should apply - only that brief instructions on the tin state "do not sand between coats"!

Excellent wood stain

This stain, although a little pricey, is excellent for exterior woodwork and provides good protection as well as a very smart finish. If used with the Sikkens Cetol HLS Plus as a base coat the results are even better. It is quite runny and care has to be taken when applying. I would not use anything else now.

Fantastic

The first time I've used this product, I usually just use the HLS Plus on it's own and that is very hard wearing, but thought I'd splash out on this for the topcoat and so glad I did. It has given a fantastic finish which really brings out the grain and looks like it will easily last 5 years. Made our oak doors look fantastic. Well worth the money, and great price and fast delivery as always.

I bought this and the Sikkens Cetol Filter 7 Plus to renovate my wooden garage doors which had been damaged by a careless cowboy workman with a power washer while cleaning my drive. I scraped the entire doors back to the bare wood, applied one coat of Cetol HLS Plus followed by 2 coats of Cetol Filter 7 Plus (done over 3 consecutive dry day). Delighted with the final results. I only purchased 1 litre of each product and was pleasantly surprised to find that I had enough of each product left over to restore 2 garden benches with the same treatment. The products were a joy to work with, no runs or drips - even for a 69 year old female on her own! I should perhaps have chosen the light oak to achieve the colour I wanted. I hope the finish protects the doors for a quite a few years, but I would certainly purchased this again when they do need to be redone. Well worth the money!! Also arrived via post and exceptionally well packed.

Relatively expensive but top quality product

I took a while to decide on what to buy but I was recommended this and I have to say i am very glad I did. Easy to apply and great coverage. The staff were also very helpful and patient. Both highly recommended. Thank you

Sikkens is the best

Used this product together with Cetol HLS plus. This gives an outstanding semi gloss finish. Product was easy to use. Applied 2 coats which made the door pop & bang, front door is properly protected & looks brand new. I would not use any other product for wood staining - it’s the best out there by quite some margin. Sikkens filter 7 plus & HLS plus were the same products and colour put on the door when new.

Excellent. Living by the coast we get a lot of rotten weather. Rain, hail and excessive winds. The Sikkens 7 Plus handles all of this on our hardwood.

BEST THING EVER! I"VE LIVED LONG - NEVER EVER USED PAINT LIKE THIS! We did up a memorial bench for my Mum. It is a one coat does it all paint. VERY expenive, but SO worth it! I honestly was in raptures over it - the Dark Oak we used was just so magnicent and the colour was beyond description. It was a life changing experience - I know I sound like some kind of nut, but all I can say is you need to try it to experience this. It goes a LooOoong way as well. I didn't know there was paint of this depth/gleaming of colour and quality. I will never use anything else from now on. Makes your Dulux seem like a duck next to a swan!!!
