I bought this machine for my tshirt business 2 weeks ago. I took this past Friday off from work to set up the silhouette portrait 3. I successful put it together sign up with silhoutte america did a test scan, needless to say that I am very disappointed. I after 2 days of trying to figure out why this machine was not cutting my designs on to heat transfer paper light color. I YouTube, research on silhouette America website and chat with a robot that was a drag out dead end and searching for resolution came up with nothing. Yeah I will be returning this product back. I regret purchasing this cutter.

I have a business, which uses Portrait 1, Portrait 2 and Portrait 3 machines. Although we do like our Portrait 3 machines, we do NOT like that the software crashes CONSTANTLY. Unfortunately, in order to operate Portrait 3 machines, the software must be one of the recent versions. Silhouette REALLY needs to get their software working properly if they're gonna be selling these machines.

Great product that is fairly easy to use. The studio software has some great functionality but also a bit of a learning curve. Was able to set it up and be cutting out a project within 30 minutes. The cutting mat started off so sticky that the paper would rip, even after using a microfiber cloth as recommended. But after cutting several pages the stickiness lessened and worked great. Glad I made this purchase.

I am honestly feeling so defeated right now. I have had this machine for two weeks, I have watched every tutorial and troubleshooting video, and I have yet to successfully cut one single sticker. The studio for creating my print works fine, but once I load it into the Silhouette, nothing works. The test cut only ever scores the sheet, and the machine will not read registration marks, therefore, it won't cut anything. I've tried every tip and trick and still, nothing. I'm not sure if it's my machine, my project, or if it's the Portrait in general, considering the number of people who share my same issues. I am going to return and possibly try the Cameo. I have never had a piece of tech give me this my trouble.
The portrait is a small compact machine that packs a punch. If you know adobe then this is the die cutter for you. It is very user friendly and allows you to create amazing projects using HTV, card stock vinyl, stencils and a whole lot more. It’s small and light enough to take on the road.
I'm using it instead of paying for a die cutter, just starting out and have small quantities for pre-production/order fulfillment. The material I'm using is Avery shipping labels only. This doesn't come with any instructions, no quickstart guide, not even a QR code to scan! The 300 MB software download is large, and it's a limited version too. You'll probably want to get Inkscpe or other serious graphics software to get your graphics to a usable state. Before you buy the cutter, go ahead and download the software and see how well it works for you. It's different than so many programs I'd used before, lot's of new concepts, especially registration marks and edge tracing. If you can't manage the content creation, no need to go further - you'll have a lot of extra ... MoreI'm using it instead of paying for a die cutter, just starting out and have small quantities for pre-production/order fulfillment. Brought this cutting machine in January, l have used it loads making personalised cards, paper bunting, gift tags, I’ve cut vinyl to decorate key rings, glasses, bottle and tiles. This is my first cutting machine and I love it. I’m very happy with my purchase and like the fact that I can use any brand of vinyl etc in this machine
I recently took upon sticker making as my new hobby and came across a variety of machines that would make the cutting process a lot more easier. Upon doing my research, I thought the silhouette portrait 3 would be the best fit. Boy, was I wrong! I followed every tutorial video, instructions clearly, and saw so many step to step blogs on how to work the machine. Nonetheless, the machine despite every attempt I made to fix the error haunted me and frustrated me up to the point of throwing it against the wall with the words on the screen that said "Registration failed; Registration marks not detected." Ugh!!!! I encountered that message probably like 20 times before giving up entirely and resulting in returning the item back to the store. Software is really complicated and overall was not the best fit for me.
I placed the order online for curbside pickup. I was charged the full price for an item that was on clearance in the store. When I opened the box, it was clear that the item was a used return item due to the missing packaging, the scratches and dust on the machine itself, and the missing items that were supposed to be included. Now I have to make an extra trip to return the product, and I never even got to try the machine out, which I was excited to do. Disappointing experience!
I've seen several people use silhouette for their sticker business, but it's very complicated! I also own a sticker business and wanted to try silhouette, but it's very hard to navigate and slow (I use windows 11)! I could not get past the printing step because it froze. Let alone the studio has SEVERAL different buttons and actions. I know a lot of people say that with silhouette they get more use out of the sticker paper, but I can only fit one per page? The cutting operations are also complicated to figure out. I think the different cutting pressures, speeds, and operations are a nice addition if you know how to use them properly. I also have a Cricut and it is SO much simpler. Lastly the most mind-boggling thing is the mats. The Cricut mat is dramatically larger then the silhouette. The silhouette can't even fit A4 paper?! I gave it two stars because I think I think eventually it'll work out but it takes WAY TO LONG! If your indecisive on which cutting machine to buy, Cricut all the way.
