I purchased this to help with logging out Oregon hiking trails. For doing scattered doug fir and hemlock along the trail it is indeed way faster than a chainsaw + putting on/taking off PPE; much lighter to haul too, of course. The long blade is great for larger trees and that it is narrow made it very easy to use wedges. The handle length allows use of both arms for power and to reach higher blowdown. I do wish the carrying bag had D rings or loops along its length to make it easier to secure to my backpack.

Great tool! In a recent storm, I got trapped on the road between blowdown trees in a big storm recently. Blowdowns are frequent out here on the coast in winter, but I don't want to carry a powersaw all the time.This saw will live behind the seat in my truck, I won't be getting trapped again!Oh yeah.......great for limbing and trees on the homestead as well.Canadian Outdoor Equipment Co. has good pricing on their products and this arrived quickly. Gale warning for tonight/tomorrow, hope I don't have to use it, but if so.......

Incredible cutting power makes wood harvesting much easier. It is such a joy to use that my friend is actually eager to take his turn cutting when we buck all the firewood. The teeth are very aggressive so stabilizing the workpiece is more important that with other hand saws. Otherwise it will pull the log right off the rest. Also carries nicely in its case. Glad I got this a year and a half ago before the price shot up.
Awesome blade, cut a 13.5 inch oak log in less than 10 minutes with minimal effort, did not even break a sweat. I am 69 years old with bad shoulders, and bad lungs, thanks uncle sugar, no regrets. Would highly recommend this saw to anyone. Have a good chainsaw but, going to the woods this is lighter, quieter, no gas no oil not quite as fast but the cut is extremely smooth. The time for the cut cut as opposed to a chainsaw is overmatched by the weight, sound, ease of carry, and lack of POL.
I am using it and the Big Boy 2000 right now to cut up firewood for next winter. Its advantages are that it is quiet so it won't bother the neighbors and that I'd be able to use it in winter. I have two battery-operated chainsaws that use lithium-ion batteries. The minimum operating temperature for those is 0 C, so it's nice for me to have a saw that I could use in winter when it's cold.I have cut lots of wood with bow saws in winter, but some stuff I could only cut with a chain saw. The Katanaboy 650 has cut stuff so far that I would have had to use a chain saw for. I don't use a gas chain saw due to I don't know how to mix oil and gas, plus I don't like yanking a cord, so I only used electric or battery-operated saws when I use a power saw.I also like it that I ... I had heard on the news about people being attacked and killed by coyotes, so, to be on the safe side, I climbed back over my fence. The coyote came quite close to where I had been cutting.Oh yeah, I used to have problems with mice and chipmunks chewing on the extension cord, so I couldn't leave the cord lying on the woodpile. I had to wind it up each time and hang it up. A cat started hanging around, of which I was glad because hopefully the cat would take care of the rodents.Of course, with the Katanaboy 650, there is no worry about rodents chewing on extension cords.
I was looking for a faster way to process larger timber for my larger hot tenting wood stove. The Katanaboy 650 is perfect in wood processing speed and portability for my pulk sled winter camp trips. When I can’t use my chain saw, I use the 650. I love it. No gas, no break downs, no machine noise and no bulk. Perfect companion to my Hultafors premium splitting axe from Axeman.
Our son who lives in Alaska suggested this saw, he uses it to cut stacks of fire wood. I gave this saw to my husband for Father’s Day, eagerly waited for its arrival! It cuts smoothly and fast unlike any other hand saw used. My husband was tired of using gas chained saws that were difficult to start and the fuss with loose chains. No more dealings with noise, mechanical failure, gas pollution, taking up space, and not getting job done in a timely manner!
I waited quite a while to pick up this Katanaboy 650 after reading and watching so many reviews and it's fantastic! Canadian Outdoor Equipment had my order processed and shipped to my door in three days, OUTSTANDING! This Silky sets itself apart with such outstanding build quality and ease of use. Equipped with huge hardened stainless teeth, this saw makes cutting any type of wood easier, that long handle allows two handed strokes which save the back and knees! For anything ranging from limb cutting to firewood, this Silky can do the job well. 10/10!
The quality of the Katanaboy 650 is superb! I also own the 2000 Katanaboy. I saw Lars from Youtube’s “Survival Russia” use extensively his Katanaboy 500 and 2000 in Siberia and was very impressed with them both. I live remote and intend to carry the 650 on my snowmobile in place of a chainsaw. It is lighter and more reliable than a chainsaw when it is very cold. The Katanaboy 2000 I carry in my emergency barrel. You can process much more wood with a saw than an axe. An axe is better for making tools and for protection.
