I bought 5 or 6 of these and installed one in my camper, and the rest were intended to go in my boat.I have to hand it to the French for designing a built in timer that shuts this off after a period of time--2, 4, or 6 hours. This is perfect for the Carbibbean where nights start hot and get cooler.It is on a gimballed mount--this is where it fails. Using it pointed it one direction causes damage to the contacts inside the housing, or perhaps the wires break at this point--I did not take it apart to see which of these is the case.So after a while you have to point it away from where you want it pointed to work. This setting is quiet and still moves a lot of air. Since it automatically shuts itself off after 2 hours, the number of hours is minimal. I rarely set it to operate more than two hours at a time.The photo's show, it has power because the little blue light is on, but will no longer push any air unless you fiddle with the adjustyments for direction.If someone knows of a reliable fan that will last for years please let me know.I will be returning all of them, including the others which are unboxed because I don't want them to be out of warranty from sitting in a box waiting to be installed.The attached photos show it energised and spinning and also not working with a slight change in angle. The range in angles were it does not work is fairly wide. The opivot point at the top and bottom of the fan is the problem area.

Used in saloon and also in Master Cabin of 40' Sloop.LOVE the design and features. Great air flow and multi positions. The auto selectable timer is brilliant.These units BOTH failed due to poor quality of manufacture.When I buy something I expect it to outlast the warranty 10:1. These didn't!I am ordering NEW ones because I understand the quality has been ramped up and because I don't wish to alter the "footprint".Trust is a wonderful thing. DON'T LET ME DOWN you good things!

These fans in my opinion could be the best on the market...they have everything going for them EXCEPT they just don't last. I thought we would have had problems with the articulating bracket but that has turned out to be well designed it seems. We have had 6 of these fans and everyone of them WITHOUT exception and in less than 1 year has had problems with the on/off and or the timer/delay switches. THey either won't turn on or won't turn off and or the 2/4/6 hr timer switches stop working. The good news is they have all been replaced under warranty but I am tired of the work involved in swapping them out with new ones..I have done it 6 times so far and until I hear that they have fixed this problem... will not do it again.

I have yet to adjust the direction of this thing and not have my fingers in the blades.There is no place to really hold the piece (the knob in the back is useless because it is in the back!Furthermore the cardanic design is just pure stupid, you will always be twisting back and forth to find the position that the thing actually rotates to. If cardanic, then full motion (endless turn) and not stop at 340 degree.Build is flimsy, cheap plastik that creaks in sync to the rpms.Bought two, regret both of them. They look fancy, but are not.
The design is so sexy in the store... Quiet, large and powerful, spins every which way, what's not to like? The design! Buyer beware of this one, they don't last. There is a teeny tiny little wire, maybe a size 22, that crosses from the base to the fan. Each time you swivel and turn the fan that fragile little wire is bent. If you never do that, you're good to go, otherwise, look at any of the other fantastic Caframos.I bought 3, then went sailing. It's just rediculous to try and return and replace from the S. Pacific. So I took them apart and tried to fix. The design is impossible to rework.
Had 2 of these installed on a sailboat. Both quit due to poor electrical contact to motor and switch failure. Replaced both fans with new. One failed within a month replaced it. Then both quit working same problem. Not one of these fans made it a year. Replace fans with Hella Marine 2 speed, cheaper and way beter built.
The Caframo fans have attractive designs and the Sirocco is quiet compared to the smaller ones.When they are working they are great but when they fail, which is far too often, it is impossible to fix them. 1/3 of the Siroccos I have installed have failed after about a year of intermittant operation.On examination the electronics is not user repairable and the quality is 'consumer' level. e.g. there is no conformal coating to protect circuit boards from marine atmosphere.Better internal build quality is required so that the quality compares to the price.
I have 6 of these in our boat. We purchased the first ones about 3 or four years ago. We absolutely love everything about these fans other than the fact that they keep dieing. We have had to replace at least 4 of the 6. A fan is something I expect to last for 10 years even in a marine environment like our boat. Very protected environment inside. I have a fan on my old boat that is probably 20 years old and it still works. Seriously not happy with the quality but I do love the design.
We have had two of these fan for 2 years. One of them had a speed problem from the very beginning and would lurch up to high and then down low and back and forth. (We were already in Mexico and so could not exchange it) We thought it was maybe the wiring to that spot so we traded it with other fan and it still did the same thing so it is the fan. The other one worked well for a longer period of time, but now the switch on that one is becoming faulty and we have to wriggle it and punch it in order to change speeds or turn it off. We are very happy with the amount of air it moves, but that is about all. Not a reliable fan :-( Unfortunately, there are not many more out there to choose from so we will probably get another one.
Purchased 3 cabin fans in early April 2012. All three have failed do to poor internal electrical connection. Caraframo has since redisigned this model addressing the problem. Return and replacement of fans for new and improved model very easy via West Marine. Otherwise fans are great for cabins.Pros are:low power use, most quiet fan on market. would only recommend new model.
