So here is the deal, ladies and gentleman (because, yes, I know gentleman like to protect their skin from prematurely aging and from dark spots, sunspots, post-acne hyperpigmentation, and related photosensitivity, and from free radicals and pollution, and blue light and all that jazz...), most of the research that I did concerning Vitamin C products/ serums focused on finding products that would be compatible with my particular skin type. Some Vitamin C products are better for Dry skin types and others are better geared toward Oily Skin Types. Additionally, I have had a lot of issues with adult acne, so before adding another ingredient onto my face that can sometimes break people out (Vitamin C serums sometimes get a bad rep for this), I wanted to also make sure that I knew what kinds of ingredients separate from Vitamin C were also causing me breakouts that might also be mixed into these Vitamin C serums. This tactic eliminated a MANY Vitamin C serums for me rather quickly, as one of the favorite co-ingredients in Vitamin C serums is Vitamin E. What most people don’t mention in these great articles about Serums containing Vitamin E, even when they are bowing down to serums like SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic (the sister serum to the serum I am reviewing, actually, and the one that Dermatologists recommend for those of us who are NOT acne prone) is that Vitamin E is a TERRIBLE PORE CLOGGER. In fact, when interviewed for New York Magazine’s The Strategist, dermatologist Dr. Julie Russak agrees that ‘Phloretin CF is better’ for those of us with ‘oily skin types’ because “it does not contain pore-clogging vitamin E”! Likewise, when Shari Marchbein, Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at NYU School of Medicine, was interviewed by Allure magazine, she also mentioned using Phloretin CF like her colleague, board certified, Marnie Nussbaum, who said that she was a ‘a fan because it’s oil-free, which makes it more suitable for her acne-prone skin.’ Additionally, I liked that I could choose between the serum formula and the gel, which none of my initial research mentioned. I only came across it on the Dermstore website. The gel appealed to me because I figured I would lose less product in the transfer of the product from the usual serum dropper to my face. I read through every single review and I didn’t see issues with pilling, so I decided to give it a whirl. Besides, I’m not wearing much makeup these days anyway because of covid. So far I have been using the Gel Serum for 4 weeks. To be completely honest, I haven’t used it absolutely EVRRY SINGLE DAY, but probably at least 4-5 days a week, consistently. So that is pretty good. And the proof is in the photos! I have problem skin, and I can’t even believe I’m uploading these photos but I’m just about shocked that I even got results at all in 4 weeks. I can’t wait to see what consistence over the next several months of caring for skin does. 💖💖💖. Love . So worth the investment. And so worth investing the time in myself. 🤗😊😌🥰☀️

This stuff is amazing! It smells like soy sauce though, but the benefit outweighs the smell. It says to apply it in the AM, but I prefer applying it at night. I wake up looking younger and refreshed. Dark brown upon opening and liquid not gel

This was my first purchase and I was disappointed. The PCF gel was dark brown liquid so it must be old or have already been exposed to oxygen. I sent a photo of what is shown on website vs what I received to customer service. I had to call and be on hold while they asked a Manager and was told they can’t confirm if it’s safe to use or not and to return the product and wait for the refund and then I can re purchase and wait for it to be sent to me instead of just sending me a replacement while waiting for return to process. I expected more from a high end company and won’t be purchasing again.

Evens skin tone

I've been using this daily for a month now. Two pumps in the morning followed by moisturizer, SK A.G.E. Interrupter and sunscreen SPF 40. I chose this over CE Ferulic because my combination skin never does well with Vitamin E (breakouts!!) and I'd already tested this with a sample bottle from a previous purchase. I bought the gel version because of its packaging - opaque brown bottle with pump action means you are not exposing the serum every time you open for application. It spreads well and absorbs quickly. I've not had any breakouts and my skin tone is definitely more even and brighter than a month back. There has been no change in the very fine lines on my forehead. The box does recommend that slight discoloration is to be expected but does not affect the serum's strength. Hey guys! Start early. Look younger forever.

Hey guys. You should get in on this if you haven't. I've used Skin Ceuticals Vitamin C products since I was in my mid thirties. I'm now 59 years old. I get botox and that certainly helps me get a more youthful appearance for sure. But other than that, this product is it as far as any effort at looking younger. I don't think this has to be used by just women. Like a lot of us I'm sure, unfortunately I'm in a profession where a younger appearance contributes toward my ability to succeed. And it's true. The absence of wrinkles aside, my complexion looks better than it did twenty years ago. I seriously look like I'm in my early 40s and people tell me so on a regular basis.

Love the gel

I recently switched from liquid Phloretin to gel and love it. Two to three small pumps cover my entire face and neck with no waste. I like its characteristic nutty smell and protective antioxidant benefits. I once used CE Ferulic but have switched to Phloretin as it is a little less oily on my combination skin. I'm 67 and have little sun damage due to my use of it for years in combination with daily using SPF as a last step of my skin care.

Made me a convert

I've been using about 2 months, and my skin has never looked better. But weirdly, the benefits are hard to pin down. When I first started using retinols, I noticed wrinkles lessening and dark spots fading—unmissable proof of effectiveness. For me, the effects of this vitamin C gel have been more subtle. My skin looks brighter (I think?) and just very healthy. One of the reasons I chose this formulation was because of the packaging—the sealed pump would make it less likely to oxidize. No Breakouts

I've tried many of the Skinceuticals vitamin c serums including Silymarin CF, Phloretin CF (dropper version) and CE Ferulic. They have all been great, but I really like that the gel can't accidentally spill and hopefully the packaging prevents it from oxidizing as fast. All of these serums have worked well for my skin, but I stopped using CE Ferulic in case the vitamin E was causing any breakouts. None of the other serums I've tried have caused breakouts to my knowledge, and the gel is no exception. I still may have the occasional hormonal flare up, but these days its maybe one or two spots at most. Perfect daytime addition to my skincare!

I was previously using IS Clinical's Pro-Heal Serum and wanted to try out another Vitamin C serum, so I grabbed this! I have used the CE Ferulic in the past and while I did like it, I think I like this gel better. It's easier to apply than the liquid serums and it doesn't have the strong hot dog smell CE Ferulic has, haha! I definitely notice if I forget to put this on in the morning! I put this on before the Skinceuticals Daytime Moisturizer. This combo doesn't go on greasy and helps my makeup application look flawless!

non-irritating

I am about to finish my first bottle of the Phloretin CF Gel and will be getting a second! I'm not positive I can see any changes to my skin, but I trust that vitamin C will provide benefits over time. I like this formulation better than the CE Ferulic dropper because it does not irritate my skin, nor make me look extra shiny. I also like that the bottle doesn't let light in, and the pump works well without clogging.
