It is perfect for photographers using the new super-zoom lenses like the Sony 200-600mm, Nikon 200-500mm, and the Canon 100-400mm.The gimbal head supports 6.6 lbs of gear so a super-zoom with a professional body will perform great. The quick release system is compatible with the standard Arca-type "dove tail" plates, so you can use the one included or the ones you currently own The kit includes the gimbal, QR plate, and carry case. The gimbal head was made popular by professional wildlife photographers that needed to support heavy, long focal-length lenses but remain nimble enough to respond to sudden, quick movements or track birds in flight. I was looking long time for a compact, light weight but ready to take a heavy load Gimbal head. Now i think that I found the right solution to it.I am using a 4.1kg load ( incl. Sigma 60-600 sport lense) and I am really happy with the result so far. Easy and fast to set up, and mechanically firm and sound.

This gimbal head is a great match for my SLIK Pro 723CF tripod. It was easy to set up for use with my Sigma 150-600mm telephoto zoom lens. Balance was achieved throughout most of the zoom range, but not when zoomed all the way out to 600mm, which is typical for a zoom lens. The head's movement is smooth on both axes. It's small enough and light enough for easy transport and storage, yet sturdy enough to provide adequate support for my rig.

I was looking for a strong but lightweight tripod and head for hiking/bird photography with my Canon 100-400.I had a large Gitzo and Wimberley gimbal using my Sigma 300-800 for many years so was looking for a generally lighter combination but the same ease of use (I don't get the Sigmonster out so much these days). For the tripod I went with theLeofoto LS-324CEX Ranger Series Carbon Fiber Tripod with 15-Degree Leveling Base (reviewed elsewhere)I chose the Slik gimbal because it was compact and had adjustable height and it was (relatively) lightweight. Unfortunately it is just not smooth - both locking knobs are tight and even when loosened are still too tight for easy operation. It is still a good option if you have not been spoiled with a Wimberley.Ultimately I ... MoreI was looking for a strong but lightweight tripod and head for hiking/bird photography with my Canon 100-400.I had a large Gitzo and Wimberley gimbal using my Sigma 300-800 for many years so was looking for a generally lighter combination but the same ease of use (I don't get the Sigmonster out so much these days). This is just a preliminary review based on set up but it seems to be an excellently made product, smooth horizontal and vertical rotation, with positive locking on the pan and tilt knobs (minimal force to lock the movements). Fixes very firmly to the Manfrotto 055 I've also just acquired - the Slik tripod that used to be paired with it is nla). I'll update this when I've had time to use in the field, hence 4 stars for now
