Do yourself a favor and get these over anything near this price bracket. They out perform the Xeens and every single way. They must not have a huge profit margin on these to be able to sell them at this price. Really incredible value if you are looking for affordable PL glass

Such a lovely lens. I compared it directly with a Zeiss CP.2 50mm I'd been using over the years, and the difference in purple fringing at high contrast points was jaw dropping. The Zeiss had a quite a fair bit of fringing, while there was no fringing whatsoever with the SLR Magic APO. This is a true, legit APO lens. A nice surprise considering how loose many manufacturers are with the 'APO' moniker. The lens has a really lovely, cinematic rendering. Finds a nice balance between the hyper crisp, clinical look of modern lenses and the flattering character of a classic cinema lens. Just the slightest hint of veiling flare when wide open. Incredibly clean, smooth bokeh thanks to the spherical optics (no aspherical elements), and 13 aperture blades with rounded edges. ... MoreSuch a lovely lens. Adapting these lenses to EF is crazy fast and easy with SLR Magic's optional matching PL-EF adapter. It's quite compact for a cine lens, however it is very dense due to the amount of glass. The only items I can fault it on are a rather pedestrian minimum focussing distance of 2', and a fair amount of vignetting when shooting wide open on vista vision/full frame (don't notice any real vignetting when shooting 135/APS-C). Unlike the CP.2's, CP.3's, Xeen's, Sigma Cine, and Canon Cine lenses (which are almost completely photo optics rehoused in cine bodies), these were designed for cine use from the optical design on up.

I have the set of these including the 50, 85, and 25mm, lenses; they are lovely. However, I'd like to note that the filter thread diameter for the 50mm lens is 62mm, not 58mm as described in the specs. The 85 and 25mm lenses have a filter thread diameter of 82mm.

Great lens so far, with beautiful rendering.
Awesome tele lens. Many of the things I mentioned in my review of the 50mm APO also apply to this lens, so check that out for more details. Only 2 real differences when compared to the 50mm and 25mm. Firstly, the 85mm has very little vignetting when wide open when shooting Vista Vision/Fullframe (something that is quite noticeable on both the 50mm and 25mm). Secondly, the 85mm does have more noticeable focus breathing when racking compared to the other APO lenses. Nowhere near as much focus breathing as the Sigma 50mm and 50-100mm lenses, but it is there. The focus breathing is the only thing that prevents this lens from being a true cine lens star.
As soon as I attached this lens to a lens motor I realised this lens is a huge mistake. Focusing this lens makes the elements inside shift so that you get small creeping tilts and pans in the frame. Especially when you want to make very small focus adjustments. So yeah, the lens looks great but it's completely unusable in any filming situation. I sent it to the manufacturer (cause B&H does not take responsibility after 2 weeks the sale is made) and they even sent me a video where the lens is working?! So they don't acknowledge the problem at all. I have tested with several camera bodies and with a professional lens technician in a projection room and this lens has faulty mechanics. I would sell this piece of junk but obviously it has no value to anyone.
I was mulling over staying EF or making the jump to PL. I knew that making the jump to PL would mean an exorbitant amount of money more... at least until recently. I was very skeptical of putting down my money on this set because there is literally nothing out there about them. However, I did and I'm so happy I went for that leap of faith. These lenses truly have everything you would be looking for in cine glass, and have a beautiful rendering thanks to the aspherical design. They certainly perform like a lens at a much higher price point. How these are even in the same price bracket as Xeen is beyond me... they blow them out of the water.

SLR Magic APO HyperPrime Cine 50mm T2.1 Lens (PL Mount)
A cine-style lens that covers full-frame sensors, the SLR Magic APO HyperPrime CINE 50mm T2.1 Lens projects a 44mm image circle and is suitable for use with select cameras that have a 6K sensor. It features cine-style focus and iris gears and an internal focus design that allows you to pull focus without the length of the lens changing. This makes it well-suited for use with rod-mounted lens accessories and matte boxes. The 300° of focus rotation provides for precise focus pulls especially when working at close focus. The lens focuses in the industry standard direction and has a 95mm front diameter. The front of the lens does not rotate as you change focus, which may allow for the use of clip-on matte boxes and sunshades (depending on weight) as well as polarizing filters. The lens incorporates an ARRI PL mount that provides a simple, strong, and highly reliable mount. Coverage The lens covers full-frame sensors. Internal Focus The internal focus design allows you to pull focus without the length of the lens changing. This is especially important when working with rod-mounted lens accessories such as follow focus units so that the gears remain engaged as focus changes. The consistent lens length also makes using a rod-mounted matte box simpler, as there is no concern for pushing into or pulling out of the matte box, and you don't need a bellows-style anti-reflection ring. Industry Standard Focus and Iris Gears Built-in iris and focus gears follow industry standards, allowing you to work with optional follow focus units and lens gear motors. 300° of Lens Rotation 300° of focus rotation enables precise focus adjustment, especially as you focus close to the lens.
