The lightweight Camera Cage from SmallRig provides accessory mounting and protection for your a7S III mirrorless camera. The camera mounts onto this formfitting aluminum cage with an integrated 1/4"-20 screw, and it incorporates an anti-twist design with padding on the base to protect the camera from scratching. It maintains access to the camera's controls and hot shoe, and it features a variety of mounting options. In addition to one integrated shoe mount and multiple 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 accessory threads, the cage features ARRI-style accessory threads for preventing accessories from twisting when mounted on the cage. Previously had Kondor Blue's cage and it was incredibly flimsy and cumbersome. This cage is extremely solid with no bend with the weight of the rig. The HDMI clamp is a bit large, but I just don't use it. Can't go wrong with SmallRig.

I bought this cage for my A7IV actually and it fits perfectly. Drastically improves my grip on the camera, and adds several mounting points. Materials feel great and the top handle is a welcome tool to anyone shooting handheld on a mirrorless camera. The tools you need to assemble the cage also attach magnetically to the cage which is really useful. Overall, it's a great cage and does its job well. My only complaint is it seems a little expensive for what it is, but if you're shooting a lot of handheld work or need to mount a ton of accessories to your camera it could be a great investment. (Also it looks cool)

This has it all ... simple, lightweight, flat on top so you can use the Sony K3M audio unit with no issues, and has just enough spots to add your accessories but not too many. Handle is awesome too ... easy to take on and off as needed. The cage attaches to the camera in two locations ... on the base (as expected) and through one of strap holders. Easy to do and overall very robust.

This SmallRig a7Siii cage offers more flexibility while shooting. It mounts up to the gimbal for the majority of my video work yet will quickly turn into a run and gun hand held unit giving me the flexibility needed to capture the perfect shot. The top handle has many mounting options for your accessories. It is slightly more challenging to adjust the function knob at the top of the a7Siii as the cage is in close proximity. Overall this is a great little unit and offers a bit more protection for the a7Siii as well.
It would have been a 5 star review if they had added a qr code to scan for an instructional video on how to assemble. Im normally an expert when it comes to assembling these things but this was not as intuitive as I had expected and I had to spend time looking up videos. Its heavy, if you are not a professional using this for consistent work I suggest you pass as its more trouble than its worth for a hobby or someone aspiring to work on movies or TV. I don't see how this would be a good idea for a YouTuber either because of the weight and bulk but your experience may vary.
It's a cage, and it does what cages do; protect the camera and provide numerous options for adding things to your camera. Which this one does. My A7S3 is video-only (I have other bodies for still photo use), so this cage will be its permanent home.The HDMI cable clamp is a lifesaver. All ports/doors on the A7S3 are easily available while in this cage, none are blocked. Well-machined and finished product.So many options to mount things, it makes my head spin.
The cage will fit even on the Sony a7IV, I am happy to have it, it's perfect and lightweight.
I bought this and i am happy.I replaced the top handle with another one that suited my needs more,but nonetheless its a perfect cage.
There should be a lot to love about this cage, but SmallRig have broken the number 1 rule of designing a camera cage: always leave enough space for the battery door to open fully.The door opens 90% of the way, and I can *just* get batteries in and out, by stressing the plastic door.Given this is a bespoke cage for the a7s iii, I find it extremely disappointing.
Pros: super light weight and very low profile. I can see instances where I can even keep the cage on for Photography. Its impressively light weight.Cons: unfortunately, thats where the honeymoon ended. once on the camera, its faults started becoming apparent. Most glaring is that this rig, AT BEST, is for a very striped down lightweight setup. And even then i dont feel confident carrying my $3500+ camera/lens using the top handle. the top of the cages warps and moves (the cage has a springy like quality and not rigid at all). even with the small camera strap screw in. forget about a built out rig. it honestly feels like its going to break.Next issue is the small camera strap holder screw. But dont buy if you need more than a supr lightweight and stripped down run-and-gun set up.
