It's a functional follow focus. Turns smooth, gears are easy to attach to a lens and do a good job not slipping or sliding when in use. Hard stops are easy to adjust and make it easy to rack focus between two points quickly and easily.Plus, since it's a SmallRig product, it's easy to mount anywhere on your cage and adjust the positioning of for smaller or bigger lenses. Does the job great and leaves me with nothing to complain about!

You get what you pay for. Build and design is otherwise okay, but there's rather substantial wiggle in the screw mechanism that tightens the gear (that contacts the geared lens ring) to the unit. That wiggle, combined with other sources of wiggle, such as the mount, adapter, lens focus ring, mechanical connection of the unit to the cage/rails, etc..adds to too much play for my taste and defeats the sole purpose of the unit. The focusing is also very tight which may be good for some lenses, but for lenses that have tight focus rings to begin with (say, Sigma Arts), it will have way too much resistance.

I really enjoy this follow focus. Smallrig has made a simple easy to use design.I recommended this over the tilta because the Smallrig design has a smoother focus roll and the focus indicator can be flipped back out of the way if you have smaller lens that have a long focus roll.Smallrig also offers seamless lens gear bands for almost every size lens and they make different gear sizes to change the gear ratio. All in all, I highly recommend this Follow Focus over the competition.

The amount of drag on this little follow focus is great. Also love the two piece arm which gives you more options depending on how far away your lens is from the 15mm rod. The only thing I wished SmallRig had done was to include a larger diameter gear. Overall, you can't go wrong it you're looking to keep your rig compact and light-ish.
Very well built! My eyes aren't what they used to be and I need more help making sure objects are in focus. This enables me to be sure my subjects are in sharp focus. Works well from both left and right of lens. Be sure you buy the seamless gear rings for your lenses - they're so much easier than the gear ring that comes with. The latch is alway getting in the way!
I have a few follow-focus options but picked this one up to have the convenience of it being far lighter and the ease of mounting it upside down (mainly for Nikon lenses to keep a consistent focus direction). I wasn't too impressed with the feel first out of the box. This won't do you any favors on tension or smooth racking if your lens is too tight or too loose. I planned on returning it but was going to be charged about 10% of the price for shipping, so I'll likely keep it in my kit. However, the simple system for focus stops is nice and can't beat how light and small it is.
A great choice for a smaller rig (or a big rig) that is built to last for a while. The gearhead is reversible so that you can put the follow focus on the right side of the camera for a focus puller position. Comes with a 15mm rod mount with a low-profile NATO rail on the side, a small rod, and a gear ring to put on a lens. It features adjustable hard stops so that you can set two focus points and quickly flick between them, and you can quickly bypass that function by lifting the stopping arm.My only two gripes are that the included rod is almost too short to use with a Sigma Art lens 18-35mm on a BMPCC4K with a SmallRig cage, and one of the adjustment fasteners restricts the movement of the wheel, making it challenging to have a vertical knob unless the rod is ... MoreA great choice for a smaller rig (or a big rig) that is built to last for a while. I wasn't expecting much of this follow focus given the low price but have been very pleased with the quality of other Smallrig accessories so I thought I would give it a try. This a is a very nice, well made follow focus. I was worried that it would come loose since it only clamps to one rod but so far it holds tight and stays put. The gears are very smooth with very little backlash (play in the gears). In fact it is better in this regard than my Arri SR follow focus that cost 5 times as much used. The stops to limit focus rotation work well and are easy to use. There are 2 disadvantages to this that I can see. First of all the marking disc is not removeable so you can't get extra discs and mark them for different lenses and swap them out as many camera assistants ... MoreI wasn't expecting much of this follow focus given the low price but have been very pleased with the quality of other Smallrig accessories so I thought I would give it a try. First of all the marking disc is not removeable so you can't get extra discs and mark them for different lenses and swap them out as many camera assistants like to do. If you want to do this look elsewhere. Second you can't reposition the witness mark so if you disengage the gears you may need to make your focus marks over again. This is best used with Cine lenses with clear easy to read marks so you don't have to spend time marking the disc with multiple distances each time you change lenses. If you can see your focus marks well and just need a simple follow focus without interchangeable discs this is a good one and is very affordable.
I added this little wonder to my Sony RX10 IV kit and boy did it make a huge difference. It was easy to set up and runs smooth across the entire focus range. I added a seamless ring and with the two I get smooth, uninterrupted full 360 spin on the electronic focus. Its a phenomenal game changer for focus at the long end of the zoom and for Macro work.
Great unit for the price. Have not noticed any backlash or creep, and I really like the hard stop options.Great deal for the money. Also love the fact that it came with a mount and short rod I can mount to the side of my Komodo for when I don't want to use my rod/rail block.
