I bought these socks thinking they were the same Classic Hike Light cushion crew socks (heather version) that I bought from a different store. They are not. These socks have no structure and very little cushion to them. They are extremely loose which causes your foot to slide around in your boots. I've paid so much for two pairs of socks that can't be used. In fact they are just about good enough to clean your boots with. I feel ripped off. If you're my enemy, go ahead and buy them. Everyone else, DO NOT BUY THESE SOCKS.

I usually purchase size large on smart wool socks. I have a dozen of various ones. For these I purchased large. They’re really XX large and shapeless. I had purchased an earlier large version that had fit well. Don’t buy these. Or buy a size or 2 smaller than usual.

I wore a pair of my new crew socks yesterday and liked them a lot. This is my first pair of 'full cushion' socks and I noticed the difference within a few steps of putting them on. I was on my feet for the next few hours doing volunteer work and appreciated the extra comfort. I've worn the regular crew socks for the past several years and never thought that extra cushioning would make a difference. But it does! So I plan to order more when these wear out.

I have purchased and relied on SmartWool socks for my exclusive daily footwear and hiking needs for more than 15 years. Always reliable; always high performance with long life! Except for now (why now?). I purchased 12 pair of SmartWool Hiker socks in black several weeks ago and am now a very unhappy camper. I have washed the entire lot at least 5 times with heavy detergent and they still leave dark purple dye stains all over the in-shoe portion of my feet that is difficult to scrub off. I have no words describing my level of dissatisfaction. The title is the best I can do for now.
I live with blisters on feet because most fashionable shoes do not fit me. Every step I take in Vans or converse feel like kicking my feet onto corners of walls but these socks make walking in them so comfortable and prevent blisters. Full cushion feels larger than light cushion though and feel like my feel move around a lot more inside the socks. But my feet would be too large for size s.
Pretty much for everyday wear. I am a walker plus the additional bulk helps my shoes fit better as I have a very narrow foot.First pair I have bought in a long time because they don't wear out. Thankfully the new ones are as good as the ones I am replacing. I bought two pair to replace those I have sent for recycle.
These are the perfect socks for everyday use & for outdoor adventures. They keep my feet warm & comfortable, the full-cushioning is amazing. Fit true to size. Love the Military Olive colour. Another great quality Smartwool product.
I bought these socks to replace the previous "Smartwool PhD Outdoor Ultra Light Crew Black" that I had been wearing daily since 2021.The Smartwool website stated that these socks were the direct replacement to the PhD. Unfortunately, this proved to be totally misleading.These socks could not be more different. Oversized, saggy and with a completely different fit and feel. I regret buying them.If it was not for the prohibitively cost and time consuming returns process then I would return these mis-sold items in a heartbeat.Why Smartwool could not continue to make the obviously superior PhD socks beggars belief. Undoubtedly, due to cost.

I have been buying/seeking out older pairs of socks (older packaging) in MEC stores, but sadly they can no longer be found on shelves (I bought them all). What is the deal?!? They aren't retaining their shape/elasticity, thread loops appear in the interiors, holes form in the sides and bottoms far more quickly, and the overall thickness, feel and quality has diminished significantly. Have used older Smartwool hiking socks for many years but each new version of the socks seems to have been getting tighter round the feet, instep and lower leg but I ordered these online in the hope that they had improved on this.These are absolute horrors in this respect, sadly, so have gone into the present drawer to give to someone with stick insect legs and feet. Sadly they would be completely useless for me. If you are looking for merino hiking socks look elsewhere unless you have slender feet and legs
