Brilliant. My everyday wear. Had to toss other brand wool / poly socks because they can not compare to the Smartwool HIKE LIGHT CUSHION SPIKED STRIPE CREW SOCKS. Also I wear traditional English shoes (Tricker's) which run wide so the Smartwool socks are perfect for getting a comfortable for where dress socks would flop around and suck. Smartwool light cushion socks are the best insurance against wet feet, athlete's foot fungus, and blisters. Also there is a bit over reverse snobbery in wearing quality hiking socks in court (I am an attorney) and looking cool instead of expensive dress socks with a suit.

I received my pair of socks through the Smartwool insider program and I have been extremely pleased with them! They are extremely comfortable to wear, and I found the extra cushion welcome during my 8 hour retail shift. I would say they fit true to size, I usually wear a size 8 shoe and the medium fits well. These socks do stretch out, by the second day i found they were fitting looser than before. they do affect the fit of your footwear and if recommend trying on boots with these socks as they definitely affect the fit of your footwear. I used these socks mainly in my daily life and I plan to use them during the winter in my boots to keep my feet toasty warm. Dispute their warmth my feet never felt sweaty or damp, the socks kept moisture away from my feet.Overall ... Excellent socks for hiking and casual wear. They wear well and don't seem to get any foul smell if being worn for more than one day; this is a great benefit when traveling and have a lack of laundry facilities. They also air dry fairly quick, which is also great when you need to hand-wash them, or if you get them wet. I would certainly recommend them for travelers, hikers, and even some backpacking. The only negative note is that they are an inch taller (I wear XL) than the previous model of roughly 3 years ago. I wear hiking boots most of the time and I like the mid-crew style as it (once) just comes above the boot shaft by just an inch or two, and did not ride up on my calves. It's not a huge deal overall, but it's counter-intuitive to the "mid-crew" design purpose.

#sweepstakesI wear hiking boots nearly every day as we live in a rural area where the ground is rocky. I have worn various thicknesses of Smartwool hikers for about twenty years, and have tried other brands along the way. Smartwool socks seem to hold up a LOT longer than most other brands I have tried for overall everyday wear, and especially in resisting holes in the toe section of the sock. I recently purchased these "extra cushion" socks for winter wear around the house and the extra protection for trail hiking/backpacking. I love the durability and performance that Smartwool socks provide, and with all the benefits of wool without the scratch. And, you just toss them in the washer and dryer with everything else! Perfect.
These are considered hiking socks. But I have several of them and use them as my every day socks. They are very comfortable and hold up really well. They also manage stank really well due to the Merino. And they nylon blend makes them nearly bulletproof. But I recently got a hole near the top of one of my old socks (of this style) and contacted Smartwool. I sent them some pictures of the damaged threads, and they promptly sent me a voucher for a replacement pair. Smartwool and Darn Tough are the only socks I buy now. But I think the Smartwool designs are better for every day type wear. I even wear them to work in my business-casual office setting. I'm the only one who knows I'm technically wearing hiking gear. These socks were not what I was expecting. They are too thick and too big. They are not light cushion as advertised, and the size small, which is the size I always get from Smartwool, are too loose. I am just using them around the house with slipper boots as they are too thick and bulky for the shoes I wanted to wear them with. I was looking for a replacement to the Best Friend sock you used to make for Women. I loved those socks and they work perfect for the shoes I want them for. All my other pairs have worn out on the bottom, so these were supposed to be a replacement.I also got the Women's Hike Classic Edition Full Cushion Solid Crew Socks, and these Light Cushion Solid Crew Socks are just as thick as those.
I used these on a summit of Lobuche, Nepal. Starting in the dark/cold morning I had G2 Evo boots (double lined), these socks, another pair of Smartwool Performance, Injinji liners and chemical toe warmers. My feet were warm! Not using these socks or the warmers but with the other socks and a pair of Lowa Renegade GTX my feet were cold on Kilimanjaro, which I didn't want to repeat in the snow.I actually had to remove these on the descent because as the day warmed and I moved more quickly my feet got too hot. The thickness is great but comes at a cost in terms of durability. I'm not planning on these lasting years, but even if these lasted one climb I consider them money well spent. Anything to avoid cold feet!
I'm soooooooo sad. I have been a Smartwool Sock wearer/customer for many, many years - I've probably owned close to 70 pairs of socks, but over the last year or so, I have noticed that the quality of this product has gone down the toilet! I have been buying/seeking out older pairs of socks (older packaging) in MEC stores, but sadly they can no longer be found on shelves (I bought them all). What is the deal?!? They aren't retaining their shape/elasticity, thread loops appear in the interiors, holes form in the sides and bottoms far more quickly, and the overall thickness, feel and quality has diminished significantly. The current socks are fine, if you're charging $5 for two pair, but this product is total garbage at present time. Smartwool needs go back to the ... MoreI'm soooooooo sad. I wear the standard weight hiking sock.
I've been buying these socks for years and have loved them for their comfort, moisture wicking, warmth, and longevity. These, however, are not the Smartwool that I've come to know and love. One of the three pair had a hole in the seam right out of the box, and they pill like crazy, which is a new phenomena for me with this brand. I kept them and I'm wearing them, but I won't be purchasing them again. Makes me sad, because not only do I wear the hikers, I also wear their dress and casual socks. It's too bad that a brand that earned my trust over so many years managed to lose it in one fell swoop. On to the next.
I was hesitant to buy from Smartwool after I found out the wool percentage has gone down about 7% since I bought my last pair about four years ago. I know their merino wool is what makes the socks so unique and high quality. The comfort and warmth is unmatched! I decided to give them another chance anyway after buying a pair by a different brand (which turned out to be horrible). Lo, and behold, I was surprised there wasn't a big difference in comfort, warmth, or quality! I suppose time will tell how long they last as I've only had them a week or so. The best thing about Smartwool is they fit so well without being loose. I've tried other brands and they are so tight they're uncomfortable. Also, Smartwool seems to be more durable over time while other brands shrink right away. Also, they are the softest brand out there. Other brands I've tried are so harsh and scratchy they are not the same as Smartwool! I would give 5 stars if they hadn't changed the wool content which I preferred what it was previously.#sweepstakes
