Maybe this product is kind of like catnip, and not all cats react to it. I don't know, but it's also hard to know if any improvement (decreased scratching) is due to the spray or to vigilant training and verbal correction. But since there is still some scratching after a month of use and observation, I can't say this product has been a huge success. Average at best, I think.

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT! The lavender citrus cross smells wonderful, my cats (4, one a bengal) went to scratch the scratch on my fabric chair and my door frame, each time they stopped short I their tracks smell the spray all over and then walked away. Without SCRATCHING! I am very impressed! I also tried it with my old dog who has a lot of anxiety with the recent fire works, he calmed down after about 5 minutes and laid down with no further jumping or barking. I will co tinte to purchase this amazing and very good priced car scratch spray. The cats have also no longer gone to visit the door or chair any longer and do far have not found a new spot to scratch… I think the smell calms them down and is very pleasant.10 stars for me!

I have a kitten and she refuses to stay away from my furniture. I bought a scratching post with catnip but she prefers furniture. I bought this in an attempt to see if it works. My boyfriend said his brother bought the same thing and said it was useless crap. It really is. Doesn’t work AT ALL. waste of money.
I have been using this product and I will say that it does work. But we is cat owners have to be diligent to do it every two or three days because the scent does dissipate. If you don't, like I did with my lesson learned, your cat will destroy your furniture to the point of possibly having to have it reupholster. I have a room in my house but I rarely go into and my cleaning lady told me about what he did to the chair. I went down and started to cry. It was totally my fault. I didn't keep up with spraying it. Unfortunately, I cannot train him for the life of me to use a scratcher no matter what kind I buy. So if you are willing to commit to doing this every few days, it will do what it's supposed to do. I don’t think the reviewers who rated this poorly understood that it’s not for keeping cats off furniture, it’s to keep them from scratching furniture. I’ve been using this for a few years now and it works great to keep my two cats from scratching furniture. I’ve used it on everything from wood to couches and leather materials. You have to re-apply it every few months, but it’s worth it and the bottle lasts a long time in my case. Make sure you’re paying attention to where your cats are while spraying it though, or the spray irritates their eyes.
I’m gonna be honest with you straight not pulling any punches. I got two kittens at this point there about maybe six months old. I got the smart cat scratch not spray. I used per instructions and yes smell was fine. But it seemed to Attract the kittens to that area. No they ripped up that section of the carpet. What I was trying to avoid had a complete opposite. I do not recommend this brand. Unless of course you want to see your hardwood floor. I also use this on my furniture with no results.

What people don't realize is that this is only one step. You ALSO have to provide them a dedicated place to divert their scratches, also most cats who are destroying things they just need to be diverted to different play habits.Basically this is not a one step solution you have to use this AND divert their instinct to scratch to a nearby scratch post, AND spend their active energy/play times with them so they don't spend it with your furniture.
The Smarty Kat Scratch Not spray is definitely a scratch deterrent, briefly. My 9-year-old kitty does not enjoy the scent of this product. She is clearly disturbed by the smell and avoids the immediate area when it's fused. However, the scent fades quickly, and she's right back to her old scratching habits. The first time I used it, I sprayed the door frame to my daughters' room that she has enjoyed scratching up for years. She smelled the scent and stayed away. A short time later, approximately 10 mins, after the scent faded, I caught her attempting to scratch the wall again. I've also used it on my living room rug and sofa, and I find the same to be true. So, it definitely works, but must be used more often than I would like to keep the scratching kitty away.
