The Smith Mission is a solid but sturdy ski helmet. The Mission has an in-mould construction and thus ensures optimal safety during any falls. In addition, the helmet is very lightweight, making it comfortable on your head. The Aerocore construction keeps your head cooler by optimising air circulation in the helmet without sacrificing comfort. This construction is also provided with a comfortable shock absorption. The AirEvac 2 system takes the warm air from the front of the helmet and transfers it to the back of the helmet. This prevents condensation and keeps you fresh for longer. The regulator of the climate control system allows you to regulate the amount of air supply and thus to precisely determine the temperature inside the helmet. In addition, the helmet has detachable Snapfit SL2 earpads, a goggle clip, and a removable and washable lining. The ideal ski helmet for every male skier or snowboarder!

I got this in addition to the Aleck Bluetooth system. As I was watching an installation video to do it correctly, the helmet failed in two places. First, a seam on the ear flap ripped as I was attempting to open where the aleck goes into. I would imagine that if it was designed to go in here, there would be some more reinforcement, since you would be opening it many times to charge. Then as I was taking out the ear piece in order to get to the next section to put the aleck in, a piece of foam snapped off. I don’t understand how they can design these to be compatible when the process to set it in place is cheap and flimsy.

Not the worst helmet, but for the price (even though it's on the low end for Smith helmets) I was pretty disappointed. Overall it's pretty good, but where it falls way short of slightly more expensive options is in the earpads/overall ear area. Mine was suuuuper uncomfortable and painful on my left ear no matter how I adjusted it, and I ended up having to disconnect the ear pads and rip out the foam insert that is glued inside the earpads so I could avoid getting a migraine from wearing this thing.Part 2 of why the ear design sucks is the compatibility with audio inserts (in my case Outdoor Tech wireless chips, i.e. pretty dang common audio inserts). The helmet is said to be compatible with Outdoor Tech audio chips (on REI product description as well as the one on Smith's website) and it technically is I guess...but it is NOT easy to insert the chips, and the way the adjustor connected to the BOA at the back of the helmet is designed, you also run the risk of that piece just totally breaking if you try to insert the chips...even inserting them the "correct" way. Spoiler alert, my helmet broke doing just this. Seems like a design failure on Smith's part for sure. I couldn't easily find directions from Smith on how to insert the chips, and had to do some deep digging to finally figure out the process, which is really not intuitive at all. That point was particularly irritating seeing as on some of their other helmets, it's super easy to insert audio, so really don't understand the disconnect with this model. All in all, if you want a safe helmet (this has MIPS so yay) that's pretty basic, this isn't the worst. Might be uncomfortable or painful, and not easy to take out the extra foam padding, but honestly it'll do the job. But really if you want something that's good for using audio inserts, spring for the Smith Vantage that has zippered ear flaps or something similar...it's significantly easier if you're using an audio system, and also the helmet probably won't break when you try to use it for one of its advertised features. Mine broke just outside REI's year return policy and Smith won't cover this issue, so I'm really wishing I paid $100 more to get a comfortable helmet that actually works as advertised...

I think this is a great helmet compared to what I have used previously for many years. It fits snuggly and i can take out the liner to wear my balaclava if needed. It stays well vented and aids my goggles with good air flow. The helmet has a lower profile and feels light on my head which I like. My only gripe with it is the ear muffs are a bit too bulky. They keep ears very warm, but also block much sound. The helmet clamp is easy to use and seems sturdy... Buckles are fine but nothing special.

This helmet is a great value! It does not sacrifice functionality or safety, though it doesn’t feel as luxurious upon closer inspection as more expensive Smith products. This is as expected, and Smith has done a great job with it.I picked up a rose colored helmet after rocking the Smith Variance for a few years. This helmet has all the features of my last one — albeit the audio insert openings are a bit hidden in the design, but are present and fully functional (I was able to insert my Alecks once I figured out how to open up the ear pads).Close to the top of the inner ear pads and along the inner back of the helmet there is a velcro seem that takes a bit of patience to open up the first time. Once you open it once, it’s much easier afterwards. Hope this helps ... MoreThis helmet is a great value! Fit great, got a wonderful deal on this helmet. Nearly 50% off, evo has incredible deals! I am very tiny with a small head (55 cm exact, round) and it's pretty snug with room to tighten it. I like to wear beanies with my helmet and it gets a bit tight even on the loosest setting, so something to keep in mind. I love the adjustable vents, and the ventilation for the goggles is great. I have the Smith goggles and they never fog with the helmet, I love it! I really wanted the MILStechnology, it saved my head from some really scary falls.
This is a decent entry level helmet. I bought it for the MIPS technology and its low-profile design. It has adjustable air vents, but the slider is stiff and hard to manipulate. The ear pads are large and cover your ears, but the perforated internal design - to accommodate speakers - are rough and chaff your ears. In addition, the helmet doesn't cover your ears in side impacts. The helmet comes way down over your brow, so if you rock bigger goggles - think Oakley's - then you may have some issues. The internal "boa" adjustment is not high quality and I'd only give it two years before it breaks or fails. For the price (I got it on Black Friday sale), it's not bad, but I wouldn't buy it again.
I have been skiing many times is multiple resorts. I am an intermediate skier. I prefer the fun greens/ blues. I can ski black diamonds, but honestly I prefer the ease of skiing rather than the competitiveness. I was skiing an easy run. The run was narrower surrounded with beautiful trees and cabins. I noticed a skied off area where there was a ton of noticeable ice. I attempted to move to the right to avoid most of the icy snow. I did hit a patch, which increased my speed. It was Ll fine but right after the ice patch was a mogul, followed by another larger mogul. After having the speed from the ice hitting that first unexpected mogul sent me in a non-controlled tumble. After hitting the second mogul, I was airborne. My head broke my fall. I remember my head hitting ... MoreI have been skiing many times is multiple resorts. I am an intermediate skier. I did get whiplash, but no lasting effects. I am a walking advertisement for this life saving helmet. I literally own my life to Smith ski helmets. I am BEYOND grateful for your technology, and safety features. I cannot thank you enough. If you’re reading this thinking of purchasing a helmet. Do not think twice. It may safe your life too.
REVIEW: Great helmet, especially for the price. I have used it in the backcountry as well as all-day on-piste. The lightweight is good for backcountry stuff. I love the MIPS helmet technology, again the price coupled with the technology that has gone in it is great! Dial fit system works great...I don't typically change the dial after I have it on and so I don't have gloves on when I do this...I have seen complaints about not easily gripped with gloves on - and I find that an odd complaint. The vents in the front do a great job at preventing your goggles from fogging. Earpads are comfortable and don't hurt when having earbuds in. The vent works smoothly and provides good ventilation. Overall a comfortable helmet at a comfortable price.Skier Type/Background - ... MoreREVIEW: Great helmet, especially for the price. I have used it in the backcountry as well as all-day on-piste. The Vantage is hands down my favorite helmet of all time - it's pricey, but it's worth it! Also, massive props to Backcountry for size exchanges! I'll get to that in a hot second...I got my first Vantage in 2014 and quickly realized it was worth the price! My home mountain is Mammoth, so temps can range quite a bit. The ventilation on this helmet is the best, especially for spring days. It's also super warm and toasty for those bitter winter months. The protection is stellar on this helmet too - I haven't hit my head a lot, but my husband's Vantage has taken a beating and it's definitely saved his brain!Since our Vantages had taken a beating (mine was still pretty good), we got Variances a season or two ago. Figured we'd mix it up a bit - great protection and overall a superb helmet, but not the same. We both noticed the fit on that helmet was a bit different and neither of us really loved it. So, we decided to just get new Vantages this season. Why mess with a good thing? One thing of note with the recent iterations of the Vantage... they seem to fit smaller! I ordered a Medium, my size in all Smith helmets, and it fit like a small (couldn't even really get it properly on my head). Thanks to Backcountry (Ashleigh is the BEST!), I was able to exchange it for a Large and it fits just like my old Vantage. My husband also said the new Large is tighter than his old one, so he's upping his size too when it comes in. So, if you have older models that you are use to, I suggest maybe ordering a size up... or maybe you'll be lucky and the sizing is the same. My head measures in the middle of the Medium size range for reference.
