These goggles are a game changer! I used them on a powder day in near whiteout conditions in Southern Colorado and couldnāt believe the difference. First the larger lens area really makes a huuuge difference in overall visibility. Also, really appreciated a clasp that is centered on the band. The magnetic changing system is relatively easy to use and I like the extra latch for security that some other mag goggles Iāve tried donāt have. I wasnāt really sure what to expect of the ChromaPop feature, but really noticed it at the top of the lift where conditions were the worst for visibility. I was definitely able to see lines and overall terrain better because the goggles almost took on a yellowish hue. These probably arenāt something I would have initially invested in ...Ā MoreThese goggles are a game changer! I had previously been using a 10 year old Oakley goggle, and though it did the job, it was time for a new set. I did a lot of research and narrowed my search down to this set ( the 4D Mag) and the Anon M4. I went with the 4D Mag from Smith, mostly because of the Birdseye View of the lens. What this is, is a beveled bottom to the lens which allows greater visibility for things that are directly below my chin. So I often fuss with adjusting zippers, reaching in my inner jacket pockets and taking off my gloves or putting them on etc. All of this is in a portion of your normal field of view that is limited by typical goggle design. I wasnāt sure, if this additional field of view would be helpful, but itās fairly noticeable and helpful. To be fair, I havenāt had a chance ...Ā MoreI had previously been using a 10 year old Oakley goggle, and though it did the job, it was time for a new set. To be fair, I havenāt had a chance to use this set much, yet, but so far, I would say this feature seems very useful. The magnetic lens change system is quite nice as well. Switching between different lenses will be very quick and simple, and I think I will be carrying the spare low light lens with me to take advantage of the quick change system. The other positive I found was that the goggle shape fit my face nicely and I didnāt realize how uncomfortable my previous goggles were until trying these on. As mentioned, the goggles come with a spare low light lens that if you were to buy on its own would cost $165. So the inclusion of this lens adds a lot of value. The optics seem very clear but there is a weird bit of temporary distortion in your view when you transition from looking ahead to looking downward due to the lower curvature of the lens. However, this distortion is very brief and I donāt think it will be an issue. While I was buying the Smith 4D goggles, I coughed up a bit more and bought the Quantum helmet. The fit between the helmet and goggles is excellent with no gap etc. One last note, I used the low light lens last night and wore these goggles to go fat biking.(using a bike light for trails) Normally I wouldnāt wear goggles, while riding my bike, but it was so cold here in Calgary last night (-28 degrees C), I needed something to protect my face and eyes. The goggles eventually fogged up a bit, But this was mainly because I breathe extremely hard when Iām fat biking and and Iām not moving too fast. I think these will stay fog free for the majority of the ski conditions I will be skiing in. All in all, Iām extremely happy with the purchase. Though these are at the upper end of the price range for goggles, the way I look at it is I will probably use these for the next ten years and I think there is lot of combined value when you add up things like the extra lens, the Birdseye view design, the Magnetic lens change system, the exceptional comfort, and the overall quality. I would highly recommend these goggles.

This goggle really is the cats meow from a technical performance standpoint, but primarily for smaller faces. The elastic in the band is next level. No issues with the slingshot of doom, goggle dangle-fest that every shredder hates.-You want a one-and-done, all inclusive goggle purchase. This goggle comes with two lens - one for sunny days, one for cloudy. Both are top notch, luxurious polarized lenses that will not fail to deliver you the utmost clarity whatever the conditions. The goggle comes in a beautiful Smith hardshell case with ventilation so that you can store your goggles right after a rad send-shesh without fear that the nasty will get them. It also comes with a goggle sock and a soft, microfiber baggy that doubles as a protective bag and cleansing cloth. Needless to say, this goggle includes all you need. This may not be the goggle for you, however, if:-You have a larger face. If you have a larger face or high cheekbones, you may find the foam padding a bit uncomfortable as a soft microfiber fleece only covers a limited amount of the goggle.- You are easily distracted by a bit of frame in your peripheral vision. The field of vision is quite wide (and certainly an improvement on my current non-smith pair of goggles), however you can see the black frame of the goggle in your periphery. This was at times a bit distracting on the mountain. Same goes for the padding in the nosepiece.-You're hard on your goggles or are prone to hitting the back of your head. The goggle strap features and easy on and off clip made of somewhat thin and seemingly very breakable plastic. All things said and done, this is an awesome goggle for just about any person who spends time on the mountain. If you have a larger face or high cheek bones, I'd check on the men's version as it may provide a bit more space!

These are great gogglesPerfect fit for my faceVery comfortableWould get 5 star rating, but Iāve had 2 lens failuresLenses are warrantied, but shipping costs 25$ and process is slow and inconvenient when on a ski holidayStill waiting for 2nd lensIn Whistler and I need low light storm lenseEnded up buying a second pair unfortunately which also had a lens failureBetween the 2 pair, I should always have functioning goggles
I was very excited to use these goggles on a low light day for the first time (storm blue lens). Nothing wrong with visibility, that was fine. Not game changing fine in my opinion, just fine. But I could NOT possibly wear these goggles another hour than what I already did (7 hours, so I gave it a good honest try). The fabric on the frame was incredibly uncomfortable. My forehead was irritated beyond belief. I tried loosening, I tried tightening, and everything in between. I will definitely be returning these goggles. Way too expensive to be that uncomfortable.
Right from putting these goggles on for the first time I noticed that the strap was broader and sturdier than my previous Smith goggles and it holds them to my face better. The goggles fit perfectly with both my Smith and Giro helmets leaving no drafty gap and they donāt fog up, even hiking up in the backcountry. I notice that if I looked directly down in the goggles there is a slight distortion at the bottom of the lens, probably due to the curve of the lens, this is not a problem for actually skiing because we should be looking ahead and not down. Even though these are sized for a smaller face, the lens offers a beautiful wide field of vision which is truly advantageous both in the lift line and on crowded slopes. The photo shows me using the Sun Red Mirror lens in low light and that worked well too in low light but it was terrific for my sensitive eyes in bright sun.

Hopefully this will prevent me from scratching them while being stored with my gear.CON: Both the mirrored lens and the rose-colored lens have a slight distortion at the very bottom of the lenses. I noticed it in the parking lot the first time I tried these onā¦but once I got on the mountain it wasnāt a problem. I believe this occurs because the lenses curve back at the bottom creating a distortion. That being said, I donāt have the same range of vision with my other goggles that I have with these gogglesā¦I suppose itās better to have a bit of distorted vision (at the bottom) versus not being able to see that angle (with my other goggles, I see goggle pads at the bottom, not terrain.) Hopefully this makes sense, itās hard to explain. I gave 4 instead of 5 stars just because of the distortion. These are pricey goggles, however you receive two lenses and a well-designed hard case to store them in⦠so they should last longer because of the protection.Iām loving ripping up the mountain with these! (The storm rose flash is great for the typical Pacific Northwest low-light condition daysā¦and the mirrored lenses are perfect for the sunny days! Twofer!
I wanted to love these but first day out so much wind blew through these that they left me with super dry, red eyes. I was due for a helmet upgrade, so found a Giro Envi (love) that actually fit my small head at a local ski shop. This helped with about 90% of the problem. I don't see a gap anywhere between the goggles and my face, but am told by the on mountain shop that that is likely the issue and that unless the 4D fits a person perfectly, they will not be a good goggle for that person. My hope is that after wearing for a while, the foam on the goggles will form better to my face, since these are not returnable and I have a hard time dropping this much money for an item that can't be used (they don't work for my kiddo either). The second issue is that if one is prone to vertigo, they may not like these. The bottom of the lens curves down and around creating a blurry fishbowl effect if one looks down with their eyes. I tend to tilt my head down out of habit since most goggles don't have that lower field of vision anyway, so it doesn't really bother me. However, it was pretty noticeable that first day when putting on my boots. I tried on several pairs of goggles on the mountain, and the Smith Squad seem to fit me well and integrate nicely with my new helmet. If these end up never confirming to my face (the lens on them is a lot stiffer than many goggles requiring a more precise fit out of the gate), the Squad will be my next purchase.
The first thing youāll notice is the increased visibility from what is called the āBirdseye Visionā or when you look down at the base of the goggle and have a significant more amount of visibility comparatively to a full frame lens. The same is true from looking towards the sides of the lens. Lenses are interchangeable, so the preference for further visibility in low and high resolution situations is unmet by other goggles. Take it from the girl who would go for the best Black Friday snow deal and landed somewhere in the mid-range of goggles. This is an up-front investment goggle for the average individual, to the have the ability to integrate upgrades as needed with lens replacement. The lens change is quick and easy, with no concern of compromise for sealing the lens or having a loose lens. I even ran in these amidst a snow storm and found them to still be anti-fog and for the lens to remain securely attached. The fit is a bit on the larger size for smaller framed faces like mine, however, there is a slight advantage on the hill to feeling like the Mandalorian. Despite the larger fit, the foam sealed to the face without any gapping, again, preventing any sort of fogging. While considerably pricey next to your standard top shelf goggle, consider this a durable investment with future lenses ranging between $100-$125 for replacement (an affordable option after buying the frame for quality).
Great system. Compared to old style lenses, these are very substantial and have a hard frame to make them feel tough. Change out process is pretty easy. You want to learn how to do it correctly. If you are doing it right, it is a very easy process. But it might take you a minute to figure it out. If it isn't feeling easy, you are doing it wrong. The only issue with It is unfortunate you can't pick which 2 lenses that come with your strap color. The assumption is there is a darker lens for sun and a lighter lens for storm days. I picked the white vapor. Unfortunately it comes with 2 cloudy day lenses that are way to bright for sunny days.
