It seems that you could feel some warmth from the solo stove in the colder months and there is always the option to get a heat shield.Stock up on your wood supply, the solo stove does consume wood quickly. This is the trade off for the minimal smoke from the fire. The solo stove is an excellent product that does exactly what it says it does.

As great as expected. One huge caveat. One minor annoyance.

The Solo Stove works exactly as expected. After the first few minutes, there really is next to zero smoke. Keep in mind that while it is heating up, there will be quite a bit of smoke, but I don’t think it is possible to have a truly smoke free fire, start to finish, without a gas line and just not using wood.A minor annoyance is that the grate in the bottom of the Solo Stove is not removable, so when we dump it so I always feel it could be a little cleaner, but it’s a fire pit so it is supposed to be dirty this very minor annoyance doesn’t hinder in any way it’s performance or usability. My only wish is that it would have come with a handle to move the thing, instead of forcing somebody to buy a $35 (on sale) accessory. I understand that some people may not need a stand if they are going to put it out somewhere safe so charging separate for that I can see as reasonable, but EVERYBODY will eventually have to pick it up at some point. It’s smooth sides and sharp edges make it cumbersome, mildly difficult and uncomfortable to empty. If it came with, at no additional charge, a way to easily move the Solo Stove, it would easily be a 5 star 0 issue product.

That "testing" of this particular product is, again, foreseeable and normal. Unfortunately, the byproduct of such a reasonable and foreseeable "test" is a severe and very painful 2nd degree burn. For one of the small children/toddlers in your promotional materials, it would likely be worse. One way to address this is to include a statement on your website that impugns and mocks anyone who might reasonably and foreseeably wonder whether the exterior of this stainless steel cylindrical product designed to be very hot is also hot. However, a more reasonable and fair and, importantly, responsible way to address the dangerous situation created by the human factors risk is to include a warning on the product. Your company name is stamped on the steel -- so should a warning that would prevent foreseeable burns to human skin. It's literally the least you could do.

First fire, all good
27 October 2021

I had my eye on a Solo since last fall when we needed a fire pit for outdoor pandemic gatherings. We went with a large (30") steel bowl primarily based on a friend's good experience with one and concerns with amount of heat from a Solo in some reviews. The bowl was great in terms of heat, we had some gatherings in 30 F weather. But, smokey and takes a lot of wood. Also very heavy, needs to be on blocks and a reflective pad to run on our deck. Finally got the Bonfire last month. Consistent with some reviews, I think the side-ways heat is less, but what a pleasure to use. Easy to start, and once hot, easy to feed with just a log or 2. Best heat output and visual is in the first 10-20 minutes after a new log goes in and the fresh wood burns off. Best heat output and visual is in the first 10-20 minutes after a new log goes in and the fresh wood burns off. But, once it is hot, a single log at a time does the trick. With the bowl, it takes several logs criss crossed to generate a self sustaining flame. The bowl always leaves a pile of charred wood in the bottom, builds up over the season and either you throw it away or burn it off in the house wood stove. The Solo burnt down to ash and a very few small pieces of char. Easy enough to empty and little waste. Time will tell if it is sufficient for the coldest nights, but I am much more likely to use it given the ease of operation and quick start, reduced smoke. No damage to a plastic sheet and plywood I used under the stand to test it first time on the deck.

Great Firepit for Small Group

Quality steel, and descent size allows for about 8 seats around and still be close enough to stay warm with a hot fire. It is only smokeless when it gets up to a high enough temperature, but that's just how the technology works so that's not a "negative" just as a bit of info to be aware of. You can fit standard size logs into the firepit but only in the widest position of the pit so you may need slightly smaller pieces to build the initial fire. Good package but it would sure be nice to have the shelter to cover the pit to protect it from the forces of nature. The shield is also something I ended up buying separately but wish I had bought in the combo package to save some $. Great package but I would recommend spending a little more to get the things I mentioned ... MoreQuality steel, and descent size allows for about 8 seats around and still be close enough to stay warm with a hot fire. I'd recommend to family and have brought it to their homes with the helpful carrying case that comes with the package. Light enough to carry by yourself, but it is cumbersome without the handle or the carrying case.

Mind Blowing Birthday Gift

It is amazing to me how quickly this product is catching on with friends and family. If you have one you probably influenced a half dozen people or more to get one and not even know it. If you don't have one you're probably wondering what the fuss is all about. My backyard has a stacked stone fire pit 6 ft in diameter. My wife and I love to be outdoors as much as possible, "The Pit" is great to sit around with family and friends but it sits away from the house in the yard and a bit in the open - not as private as being on our deck. Sometimes when its just my wife and I it does seem like a lot of work to get a fire going and to maintain it in a 6' pit. Throw in some smoke that moves freely as the wind blows and you have yourself a lot of effort and smoky clothing ... MoreIt is amazing to me how quickly this product is catching on with friends and family. Sometimes when its just my wife and I it does seem like a lot of work to get a fire going and to maintain it in a 6' pit. Throw in some smoke that moves freely as the wind blows and you have yourself a lot of effort and smoky clothing when all you may want to do is sit out for a few hours to watch the sunset and have a few beverages. ENTER SOLO STOVE! I placed the solo stove on my deck about 6 or so feet away from my home. This is so much more enjoyable than rolling over a 7' heat lamp or table lamp running on propane. Our mid-size unit is perfect for the two of us (can easily have 4 or 5 people around this with NO problem) Although it was purchased with the stand I still took the time to place some leftover tile (2 - 12"x24" inch) from a project underneath the solo stove and stand. Call it peace of mind. I got it on a Sunday as a birthday gift and by the end of the week I had used it 4 times. It's THAT easy to use. Am I a great fire starter? Doubt it. It's the science in this product that creates the fast start and quick heating thus starting a fire is not a chore. In fact it's almost effortless. The first time I used it I put a small 5" by 1" fire starter stick and put twigs and small sticks on it. Plenty of fuel near me as I but up to a small pine forest. I would guess within 15 to 20 minutes the fire is perfect. Now I just use a few balled up pieces of newspaper. See pics n' vids for that first late afternoon use. Very enjoyable! I read some commentary by 3rd party reviewers mentioning that it is a bit of a pricey product. I think it's justified and certainly in my case it makes sense even with a fire pit in my backyard. My wife enjoys this more than the "pit" as it's more private for us (sits on our deck) and she doesn't smell like smoke at the end of the evening. She now looks forward to being outside with me, a fire and a glass of wine. Thanks to the Engineers at Solo Stove for creating a product that works, Marketing for a killer website w/videos and my wife for spotting the envy in my eyes when enjoying the Solo Stove in other venues. Cheers!

There’s fire pits and then there’s Solo

Solo means one, appropriately named because there’s only one out there like this! Truthfully you can build a fire in anything, you can start them right on the ground in a circle of rocks if you want, but there’s something a about a solo stove that makes it so much more enjoyable, more of an art. If you know your wood species, and have a boy scouts ability to make a fire you can really make these solo stove put out some heat, enough that you’ll be standing 4 feet from it just to keep your eyebrows on. This is an amazing fire pit, it’s sleek, easy to set up, take it with you when you want and produces an amazing fire. I’ve seen the 1 star reviews, doesn’t put off heat, isn’t smokeless, burns wood too fast….. hello??? 1. Use hardwoods, Oak is great! Get a bed of coals ... MoreSolo means one, appropriately named because there’s only one out there like this! It’s not smokeless because you are using green firewood, or wood is wet or your just not sure how to build a fire. 3. If you don’t want it to burn too fast quit buying pre packaged logs from next to the ice machine at the gas station, get your self a truck load of seasoned fire wood and let this sucker burn until the edges turn blue! If you have any doubts in this thing don’t, it’s amazing!!!

Very Happy with this Purchase
3 January 2022

I have had other fire pits in the past, but they always end up going unused because they're heavy, too big to use efficiently, difficult to clean, or so cheap they become useless pretty quickly. I saw an ad on social media for the Solo Stove and was curious, but I'm always very skeptical of those ads. Plus, did I reallllly need to spend money on a firepit I probably won't use... again? That was a year ago. This holiday season, I saw another ad and that it was on sale. I spent hours researching and reading reviews before I finally gave in and purchased the Bonfire. It arrived within a couple of days. I unpacked it, put it in its carrying case, and put it in the back of my SUV to take up to our family farm for our Christmas gathering. It was a HUGE hit. It arrived within a couple of days. I unpacked it, put it in its carrying case, and put it in the back of my SUV to take up to our family farm for our Christmas gathering. It was a HUGE hit. It puts out a surprising amount of heat, it's easy to use, easy to clean, easy to carry around, and fascinating to watch! Plus, you really don't need any of the optional accessories to use it to its full functionality - which I appreciate. Also, I live alone, so being able to clean it easily and store it outside of the elements is super important to me. The only reason I deducted a star is because you do have to have a rip roaring fire going in order for it to be truly smokeless. Until you have a full on blaze, the oxygen isn't fully circulating to prevent the smoke (and give you the cool fire swirls). So, to use the stove and have a fire, you don't *have* to fill it with wood for a big fire, but if you keep it small, you'll have more smoke. This isn't a deal-breaker for me and I would 100% purchase this again.

Wonderfully easy to start a fire - Burns logs to ash
1 November 2021

What a great way to have a fire! I live by a lake and had an older fire pit that was a pain to use -- It was hard to start a fire, wood never seemed to burn completely, there was lots of smoke, and it it was a mess to pick the thing up to empty it for cleaning. Now for the Solo....It is wonderful. I go to my grocery store to get a small bundle of well-dried logs for $7. I put some paper in the stove along with a few pieces of fatwood and about half the logs. Use a match to light the paper and in about 10 minutes I have a good fire burning that looks great and puts out a fair amount of heat (be careful not to touch the side of the stove when there is a fire). There is not a lot of smoke and burning is amazingly complete. After about an hour, you'll have a good layer of coals burning that give out good heat, and when everything has burned, you have a layer of fine ash.I use my Solo on a stone patio with a stand -- I have checked and it seems as if the area under the stove seems cool - you can touch the stand when use the stove - I was worried stove might leave some sort of scorch mark. It doesn't.Stove is easy to clean -- Once all is cool, I just pick it up to dump ashes and then hose it out and let it dry.I love the cap that you can put on it - I use it as a side table when stove isn't in use and it is outside, otherwise pick it up (it is easy to carry) to store it in my garage.Really a nicely designed stove that works well, is easy to use, and looks great.Great if you like wood-burning fires.

Wow! So Easy!
6 April 2022

We got our Bonfire Solo Stove a few weeks ago and immediately upon unboxing it, we had to try it out. I placed some of our homemade fire starter (egg carton/dryer lint/wax) and a little bit of kindling in the bottom, used a lighter to light it, and that was it! The fire was instantly alive. As it burned through the kindling, I added larger pieces of wood until it was a well established and roaring fire. It took 10-15 minutes of just adding a little wood here and there. I didn't have to stoke the fire at all, it was so easy! I was also happy with the lack of smoke the Solo Stove puts off. Admittedly, I did use some logs that were wet from being outside and uncovered and there was some smoke, but it was far less then we would get from our stone firepit. After we were done, we let the fire burn out, and the next morning there was just a little ash that I dumped out.We have now used it several times and each time I am amazed at how easy it is to start and maintain a fire.Of note, the Solo Stove seems to be very well insulated. After being used for over an hour, my digital thermometer showed over 1100 degrees inside, yet on the outside walls, it was barely 120 degrees on the bottom and progressively got hotter as you got to the top, but didn't exceed 200 degrees. The stand that the Solo Stove sat on registered the same as the air temperature! We also received the new Heat Deflector about a week ago and it makes a much more enjoyable experience on a cool night. The deflector directs a lot more heat toward us as we sit around it, and is definitely worth the extra cost!
