Amazing fire pit

I was skeptical at first but after the first burn I was truly impressed. Before the Ranger we just had a regular steel firepit that you would see anywhere it was large but the smoke in our faces was extreme and left us smelling pretty strong. We did NOT have this issue at all - we have used it 3 times so far since receiving it and it was a pleasant experience. Watching the secondary burn is mesmerizing. The only thing I've noticed is that store bought logs will stick out over the rim by an inch or 2, which is remedied by cutting them in half. So if it was a tiny bit taller - would have been perfect. But overall - amazing firepit.

I bought the Ranger 2.0 specifically for my Camper for cooking. I also purchased the cooking attachment where you can put a pot or grill on top. Most of the time I use a tripod grill that I purchased separate, this gives you the ability to use your grill or cast-iron and put it at any height for simmering or searing. And the cool thing about the tripod is you can get the heat exactly where you need it. It is a wonderful combination to have near zero smoke and that type of cooking flexibility. The ranger 2.0 is a little bit too big to fit under my 16 foot camper storage so I put it inside wrapped in a trash bag inside of the provided very nice tote bag., This keeps any smoke from smelling up the inside of the camper. Absolutely in love with this thing.

Nifty little pit
22 December 2022

If you buy any out I always recommend getting the stand with it. Not only does it help with ventilation it also preserves whatever’s underneath the pit. My personal experience with this Ranger 2.0 has been rather well. It was a little cumbersome to chop logs to size. Ended up taking out my table saw and spent an afternoon making the proper fuel size. Other than that it’s great!! I mainly got it to take camping with me. Wanted something large enough for a couple people but still portable. This checked those boxes. If you think about getting the 1.0 of any pit DONT! The biggest reason I haven’t bought a Yukon from Costco is they don’t sell the 2.0 version. This Ranger 2.0 has a removable ash tray. This makes clean up a BREEZE!!!

Previously I had a Campfire stove, which i used as a solo camping firepit. I have been using twig stoves for years, but the campfire brought an actual campfire experience to my campsite, which was nice. Had an opportunity to get a Ranger for a good price and thought it might work for our local scout troop. As we found out, for larger groups it is a little small, and having to process firewood to smaller chunks was not always sustainable on a campout. Doesn’t take up as much room as the larger Bonfire, and it will fit in every fire ring I have seen. Many parks only permit fires in their rings, but will allow you to burn a portable firepit so long as it is inside the ring. The Bonfire often does not fit. These days I mostly solo camp, or in very small groups. The Ranger is perfect for those conditions. Super easy to light - I lay my alrger pieces in the bottom and pack them in, then put dry leaves, twigs and bark on top and light that way. Once the top fire catches it gets roaring pretty well, and smoke is minimal. I haven’t made regular campfires for well over a decade now - the smoke bothers my sinuses, and I couldn’t stand reeking of smoke the for the rest of the trip. This little Ranger changed all that.I do use the stand but it isn’t always necessary where I use it. My back patio is concrete, and it isn’t needed within a fire ring. Every once in a while I might be camping somewhere that would need it (grassy areas perhaps) but it is still a nice thing to have, and nests inside for transport. The new ash tray is a much needed improvement. Probably 80% of the ash is removed from the lifting out the grate and the pan. You still have to dump out some but it is a much easier process than before. Well worth the wait. The included bag is heavy duty, and will hold the pit with the lid on top. I keep the stand, handle and legs for the deflector inside it. Eventually I will get the screen which will also nest inside.

Perfectly Portable!

I also own a Bonfire and first chose to buy it because I was worried that the Ranger wouldn't be big enough for a group of 5 to huddle around. I also liked that the Bonfire takes a standard sized cut of wood.I eventually bought the Ranger because I found myself packing my Bonfire back and forth from Scouting events often and needed more portability. I LOVE that the Ranger fits in a passenger seat of my Truck much better than the Bonfire (allowing me to lock it up). As for heat, I have found that, since it is a bit shorter in height than the Bonfire, the heat output on the Ranger is really great for 5 people. It is shorter and so it radiates from a bit lower to the ground, spreading out the heat quickly. If I use split wood and not logs, I can start a fire, roast ... MoreI also own a Bonfire and first chose to buy it because I was worried that the Ranger wouldn't be big enough for a group of 5 to huddle around. Ranger 2.0

Bought the Ranger to primarily take camping with my kids...roast hot dogs, make s'mores, reduce the amount of wood I take, and not deal with the smoke (and resulting campfire smell in everybody's clothes). I'm happy to say that it matches all expectations set by the many 5-star reviews. It's super portable, starting a fire is a breeze, it gets hot quickly, it reduces smoke significantly, and it's really easy to clean out.On the smoke subject...I wouldn't say it's totally smoke-free. But it's pretty amazing how little smoke there is as long as all the wood fits inside the Ranger. If there's any wood sticking out the top rim, my experience is that you'll start getting noticeable smoke from that piece. The one downside I have found (as others have mentioned) is that ... MoreBought the Ranger to primarily take camping with my kids...roast hot dogs, make s'mores, reduce the amount of wood I take, and not deal with the smoke (and resulting campfire smell in everybody's clothes). Based on all the other reviews, I'm getting the heat deflector to solve that "problem".I also debated extensively between the Ranger and the Bonfire. Space is already tight when packing up my medium-size truck for camping, so I decided in favor of the Ranger due to the increased portability and the need for less wood. If I was purchasing to use mostly at home (or if I owned a larger vehicle), I think I would have gone for the larger Bonfire. One more thing...I bought the Ranger primarily for camping, but it's been so great and easy to use that I will probably go out of my way to use it at home as well.

Solo Stove or Nothing
1 August 2023

Id like to start by saying that I absolutely love this Solo Stove. I live in a small village with many other houses nearby and with our local ordinance we would be required to pay $50 a year to have a fire pit. With the Solo Stove we are able to avoid having to pay that yearly fee and get to have happy neighbors with it being smokeless. The Ranger 2.0 is roughly about the size of a 5gal bucket and works well with a 5gal bucket to hold the sub 8” wood pieces. One bucket of hardwood lasts us 4hrs+ which is very fuel efficient. After owning this smokeless stove and all the memories I’ve already have on our deck with the stand, I won’t ever go back to a dirty ash-smoke filled fire pit. Love this thing!

Thrilled
17 December 2022

I have wanted a Solo since I saw them over a year ago. A friend has the Bonfire. I wanted something smaller but was worried it would not give me the firepit experience. A neighbor has the Ranger and he said it was his best firepit and he’s had a number.I bought it and made my first fire. It was great! I live in a townhouse and always feel concerned about the smoke from my barbecue grill bothering the neighbors.. With this Ranger the fire started quickly and there was no smoke. It was delightful to sit outside drinking afternoon tea on a chilly day by a warming fire.I have my eye on a number of accessories!

Works great!!! Perfect for backyard and camping trips
25 February 2023

We couldn’t be more pleased with this purchase! We first enjoyed a backyard BBQ with friends who had the Yukon model and were extremely impressed coming home not smelling of smoke. We bought the Ranger bundle to enjoy on our future camping trips due to it’s portability. We also recently purchased the cast iron accessory to also have a backup cooking stove but after cooking some steaks and veggies, it will be our go cooking surface going forward. We could not recommend Solo Stove products enough. Great quality and fun to use. Thanks!!!
