We bought this 05/04/23 from Richer Sounds Nottingham. After arranging an appointment to listen to a selection of sound bars we were interested in and in our budget.Tom welcomed us into the shop and took us into the lounge. After comparing the three we were interested in, the Sonos Ray came out tops. It was at the top end of our budget and the difference clearly showed. Tom also explained how to use the app or set it up with our existing handset for volume control.Overall a pleasant experience with no pressure whatsoever. The difference between the TV speakers and the sound bar is on a totally different level, as a tinnitus sufferer, this has made a big difference to my tv viewing.

Bought a couple of weeks ago to replace a Canton sound base which had failed.Very pleased with the sound, the stand-alone streaming features (music, radio, podcast services), and ease of control via TV remote. But disappointing power consumption when not in use. Sonos seem not to have a state they refer to as ‘standby’, but say it goes into an ‘idle’ mode with reduced consumption when not in use. But it never draws less than 2.8 watts when measured with a smartplug. Very poor when compared with say TVs which have to use less than 0.5 watts in standby.

We bought this sound bar to add to our Sonos setup and for better sound for our TV. The lack of hdmi input means the only way you can connect to the TV is through optical cable (provided) but seems a bit archaic considering most use hdmi connections. The sound quality is decent for the price (not exceptional but that was expected at this price point) and adds more depth to our current setup however the connection does drop in and out when using with the whole system which can be very frustrating. Overall, decent piece of kit for the price point of using to bolster TV sound.

I bought this for my 32" kitchen TV & what a difference it has made! A rich, full sound which was surprisingly improved with the trueplay tuning option via the Sonos app. I turned off the 'loudness' in the EQ settings as it was a bit too bass heavy for my ears. Calibration of lipsync was easy and the sound of my Spotify account is more than adequate. For the price and size I'm very impressed. It also looks very slick in black. An excellent buy promptly despatched.
First the good points - it looks nice and when its working the sound is very good and the Service from John Lewis was excellent as usual. This is purely a product review. But, many people will not know the following:1. You may not be able to use your current remote to change the Sonos volume. Meaning you will either get up and do it manually OR use the Sonos App - yes you MUST have a smart phone to install & configure the Sonos/APP. I don't know if you can have the App on 2 phones - if not & the phone with the App is not present its back to manual changes for volume.2. You must have wifi. It will not work without a wifi connection and be carefull as BOTH the Sonos and the APP MUST be on the same network - it will not work if one is connecting to a wifi extender ... MoreFirst the good points - it looks nice and when its working the sound is very good and the Service from John Lewis was excellent as usual. When playing many TV channels audio and visual is out of sync. BBC etc seems OK but lots of other channels including movie channels have the problem. It's VERY complicated. The fault and resolution could be anywhere - broadcast channel, TV, Sonos, other. Sorting it out so that it works for every channel is a nightmare. I need to be fair here and say that other manufacturers seem to have similar problems but looking at comments on the web no where near as many as Sonos. If you do not research your TV and remote and these issues, or you are not technically competent this soundbar is not for you.PS my connection is as simple as could be - modern smart TV with optical cable direct to the Sonos Ray.
Went into JL in Ipswich and chatted to helpful salesperson. Initially wanted a different manufacturer as I thought HDMI eARC was necessary. This uses only optical connection but seems to work well. Installed SONOS app but a few glitches here, the PIN was meant to be picked up within a sounding test - no chance - but located PIN (after more time than it should have taken - what about a real manual?) and it all went smoothly from then on. Conventional sound marginally better than from Sony TV but really excellent when picking up 5.1 sound from streamers. So far so good - downside regularly doses of SONOS email.....
Bought a new Samsung TV from Richer Sounds but thought these 70 year old ears needed some sound enhancement, hence the Sonos Ray. It's a winner, especially at the price, for my small'ish living room. Bass is warm and round and speech is somewhat improved when selected in the App, enough for me. Music response is outstanding. Different programmes on various TV channels seem to have vastly different volume levels but the Ray copes with them all. A hero mention please for Conor at Swiss Cottage Richer Sounds. I had trouble setting this up, probably due to owning a rather ancient phone. He offered to come round so I picked him up and he sorted it in my flat in less than an hour. Now that's what I call service! You have a customer for life.
Wanted a sound bar for my new Panasonic TV since the TV audio was lacking in clarity. I have other Sonos smart speakers and so the Sonos Ray seemed an ideal solution even though the Beam (I couldn’t justify the price)may have provided a superior sound. I have found the Ray offers incredible audio results with ample volume and excellent bass output and when used to play music offers superior sound to my Sonos one speakers. It was extremely easy to set up and I am very happy with the results. Highly recommended.
I bought this just over a week ago, the first sound bar I have purchased. I was slightly confused by the number of 'Sonos' apps out there, so I phoned the sales team and they put me on to the right app (orange coloured). The setup was easy, just download the app and connect the bar to the tv with the supplied optical cable. You can use the app to set up the bar to enhance speech, and to adjust the acoustics to the shape of the room it's in.Real bonus was listening to music through the device. I have a Marantz CD player, Arcam amp and Wharfedale speakers, which is a pretty good setup. Listening to music streamed through the Sonos Ray, I could pick out lyrics from it better than on CD versions, and the sound stage is very impressive.Very pleased with the purchase ... MoreI bought this just over a week ago, the first sound bar I have purchased. Initially the mini sub would not connect to the Wi-Fi unless I hard wired it to the router. However once synced it worked and was able to disconnect the Ethernet cable. So the system is now wireless with the Ray connected to the TV. This system replaced my old sound bar. What a transformation! The sound is superb. Easy control through the SONOS app on my phone. The bass is unreal. Would definitely recommend the Ray and Sun Mini for an upgrade in a small to medium size living room.
