I bought this to replace the pitiful speaker on my otherwise excellent Samsung TV. Set up was easy after i quit trying to connect the Sonos to a range extender network and connected directly to the main wifi network. Fortunately this was practical as the main wifi is strong enough in the room the Sonos is used in, but if this wasn't the case not sure it could have been set up without re-configuring the home wifi. The other glitch is you can only hook up one remote to the Sonos. We have the Samsung TV remote but we hardly ever use it because we also have a Firestick, which is what we mostly use for streaming purposes. But seems like it might be easier, simpler, if the volume control on the Samsung TV remote could connect to the Sonos also. Plus, then you see the volume level indicator on the TV output rather than just playing it by ear. OK, spent lots of time on the glitches. Once it was set up and working the sound quality is AWESOME! And, in the end, that's what really matters, right? Would definitely recommend this product.

This little soundbar is amazing for the price. Big upgrade on the tv speakers. I have 2 play one's which I used for music in a stereo pair for a few years and I now use them along with the Ray in a 5.0 system (i think) which sounds as good as my cinema set up (marantz amp, wharfedale sub and tannoy speakers) and that cost a lot more! Just need the small sub now sonos? Not buying the £600 sub. No point. I'll repeat the fact that once the rear speakers were added, the sound was transformed from what was excellent in the first place to full surround. I can live with the bass as it is because it definitely kicks for such a small unit. Congratulations sonos, once more people know about it, you're on a sure fire winner but hurry up with the sub.

Understandably, some would crave more, but the simple Ray is a nearly-theatrical experience that does justice to HD television ......and you males can call off the attorneys. Harmony prevails.

As a loyal Sonos customer - Disappointed
12 October 2022

As the happy owner of 10+ other Sonos products I was really looking forward to my first foray into TV with the purchase of a new Ray. As with all Sonos products, initial setup was very easy. Digital optical out from the TV seemed to work great when linked to an Apple TV. The Ray also works great as a normal Sonos speaker. However, the problems really started when you switched to a feed from a UK Sky box. Sound becomes barely audible even at max volume rendering the product useless for its main use. If you Google it, lots of customers have had similar problems over the years with little resolution from Sonos. If your intending to use in the UK linked to a Sky box - probably worth checking your System setup first....

Compact, superb sound
16 April 2023

We bought this 05/04/23 from Richer Sounds Nottingham. After arranging an appointment to listen to a selection of sound bars we were interested in and in our budget.Tom welcomed us into the shop and took us into the lounge. After comparing the three we were interested in, the Sonos Ray came out tops. It was at the top end of our budget and the difference clearly showed. Tom also explained how to use the app or set it up with our existing handset for volume control.Overall a pleasant experience with no pressure whatsoever. The difference between the TV speakers and the sound bar is on a totally different level, as a tinnitus sufferer, this has made a big difference to my tv viewing.

Great TV speaker replacement
14 April 2023

I purchased this speaker to update our TV speaker. It wasn't too difficult to set up, paired easily with the older LG TV and Nvidia remotes. The digital audio cable took a bit of adjusting to get it to kick in, but all good now. We use it in a small suite, so I didn't want anything too large. The sound is really good, but there is a lack in complete sound which will require purchasing the matching sub. I intend to do that one day soon. Until then this one has improved the sound tremendously. The only reason for 4 stars is that I hoped it would have more depth to the sound. We recently watched Top Gun Maverick and I truly missed the deep sounds of the music and jets that make the movie so magical. My fault for not watching it on a more complete audio surround sound ... MoreI purchased this speaker to update our TV speaker. I should have researched more - MUCH more!
1 April 2023

First the good points - it looks nice and when its working the sound is very good and the Service from John Lewis was excellent as usual. This is purely a product review. But, many people will not know the following:1. You may not be able to use your current remote to change the Sonos volume. Meaning you will either get up and do it manually OR use the Sonos App - yes you MUST have a smart phone to install & configure the Sonos/APP. I don't know if you can have the App on 2 phones - if not & the phone with the App is not present its back to manual changes for volume.2. You must have wifi. It will not work without a wifi connection and be carefull as BOTH the Sonos and the APP MUST be on the same network - it will not work if one is connecting to a wifi extender ... MoreFirst the good points - it looks nice and when its working the sound is very good and the Service from John Lewis was excellent as usual. When playing many TV channels audio and visual is out of sync. BBC etc seems OK but lots of other channels including movie channels have the problem. It's VERY complicated. The fault and resolution could be anywhere - broadcast channel, TV, Sonos, other. Sorting it out so that it works for every channel is a nightmare. I need to be fair here and say that other manufacturers seem to have similar problems but looking at comments on the web no where near as many as Sonos. If you do not research your TV and remote and these issues, or you are not technically competent this soundbar is not for you.PS my connection is as simple as could be - modern smart TV with optical cable direct to the Sonos Ray.

Sonos Ray - great sound for TV and music streaming
29 March 2023

I bought this just over a week ago, the first sound bar I have purchased. I was slightly confused by the number of 'Sonos' apps out there, so I phoned the sales team and they put me on to the right app (orange coloured). The setup was easy, just download the app and connect the bar to the tv with the supplied optical cable. You can use the app to set up the bar to enhance speech, and to adjust the acoustics to the shape of the room it's in.Real bonus was listening to music through the device. I have a Marantz CD player, Arcam amp and Wharfedale speakers, which is a pretty good setup. Listening to music streamed through the Sonos Ray, I could pick out lyrics from it better than on CD versions, and the sound stage is very impressive.Very pleased with the purchase ... MoreI bought this just over a week ago, the first sound bar I have purchased. Wake up and smell the coffee!
30 December 2022

Is this a joke or everyone is sleeping at Sonos? 2023, the sound bar has no HDMI port and no Bluetooth connections. You connect it directly to the TV with an optical cable like grandpa used to do with his stereo system. When playing Spotify music, you connect to the TV Bluetooth to turn it on. The TV screen is on while playing your mp3 music. This is a waste of energy and your TV screen's life.Pros: The sound is generally good overall like 3D surround sound. But nothing spectacular.Cons: Don't remember if there's a manual instruction or maybe complicated that I didn't bother with, and not easy to figure out how to sync with TV. You need about an hour to watch people on youtube teach you how. Can't control volume with Telus TV remote or maybe I don't know how yet.

We Love the Sonos Ray TV Speaker
3 March 2023

We replaced a 10 year old Bose Solo speaker that we really loved, it was a huge sound in a compact, user friendly unit. We are thrilled with the Sonos Ray, the setup was a little daunting at first for us older, tech challenged types but the guidance process walked us through the steps perfectly and everything works like it's supposed to. We took the path of allowing setup to do all the automatic things it could and it worked as promised. The sound is deep and rich, the dialogue enhancer works very well, we had no issue programming the Samsung Smart TV remote so we only have to use one remote. We could not be happier with it, the sound quality, the volume of sound, the ease of use, the size and appearance couldn't be better for us.
