Despite its small size, this speaker packs a powerful punch. The sound quality is rich, clear, and well-balanced across the entire spectrum. Whether you're listening to your favorite tunes, streaming podcasts, or watching movies, the Roam delivers impressive sound with deep bass, detailed mids, and crisp highs. It's equally impressive at lower volumes for background music or at higher volumes for a room-filling experience.Connectivity & Voice Assistants (5/5):The Roam offers versatile connectivity options. You can easily switch between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modes, ensuring seamless playback regardless of your device or network. The inclusion of both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant adds another layer of convenience. If you're in the market for a portable speaker that delivers exceptional sound and smart functionality, the Sonos Roam should be at the top of your list. It's a premium speaker that justifies every penny spent.

You just walk up to the Roam speaker in your room, and say, "Hey, SONOS: Play NPR at at 35 int eh Kitchen Group." The Roam can really work well in other ways, too, if you just want to carry it to another room. It auto-tunes the sound to the environment, and the sound is remarkably good for such a small speaker. The price is reasonable (I got my second Roam on sale!). I use one of several spare USB chargers I have accumulated over the years, but it would have been nice to have been provided a charger, since the charging demands of the Roam are a bit more demanding than those of the typical cheap cellphone chargers. There is the option of a SONOS charger base, but that still begs the question of what you are going to plug it into! Not a deal-breaker. This is a great addition. My wife loves the voice control and the enlightened SONOS privacy policy.

What is less clear is than multi-speaker monoaural playback isn’t possible. So if you buy two speakers and aren’t on wifi, you can count on only one working when on bluetooth alone. Even an inexpensive pair of bluetooth ear-pods will play on both sides (and in stereo for that matter). This Sonos product is severely deficient in functionality for a portable device, enough so that it should be avoided. No comment on other Sonos products other than I won’t go near them after my Roam experience.

Dead after 1.5 years, poor support for a sub par component.

First the good, the Roam is a great speaker working glitchy from time to time like all their speakers. The horrible part is the battery at 1.5 years is dead. When calling Sonos they were attempting to find fault with my use, I told them it sits on their dedicated charger when not moved, never charged with usb-c. Bottom line is they will do nothing. I own One's, Five's, Sound Bars and love them. I have reverted to a many-years-old portable Amazon Echo, whose battery life continues to be excellent. Sonos should be ashamed of how they treat their customers when they have a product with an obviously sub par component rendering it worthless in a short time. Now I know Sonos is a smaller company with limited resources unlike Apple but their hard line will lose good customers. What difference does one customer like me make to them, probably nothing, but I certainly won't recommend their speakers any longer to friends, family and others, many have purchased their products on my recommendation.

Fatally flawed

This is the only battery operated Sonos speaker, which I needed because there is no socket where I wanted to place them. There is nothing in the product information that tells you that it switches itself off when not in use, after which you can't play to it with Airplay or Bluetooth. The only way you can play to it is by walking to the speaker and pushing the On button. Ie you can't activate the speaker from the Sonos App on the phone. It actually misnames one idle state as Sleep (the other is Off). 'Sleep' implies it can be woken up - it can't, the only way is the same as from off, by pressing the button.I wanted a stereo pair, so I've actually bought 2 of these wretched things, wasting double the money. Is a firmware update planned? The sound quality, though, is very good for the money. Shame it's unusable!

Good overall with some minor flaws.

I've not had it long enough to really test battery life yet but so far so good. It needs a decent charger 2A or more as one isn't included - a standard 5W charger won't cut it and Sonos don't include one (but then I knew that when I bought it).The sound is acceptable, high and low are clear, low is surprisingly good and punchy for the size (It's smaller than I imagined it to be). The mid range just sounds slightly different maybe even mildly muddled compared to my other Sonos speakers, in fairness that could be my ears/brain interface as I'm used to listening to the other larger Sonos speakers. (I didn't listen to it before I bought it) I don't think it's quite as detailed in the mids, but then everyone's ears will vary. It packs a fair punch for it's size, it's loud enough to annoy your neighbours if that's what you want it for (joking). So far, for it's size 7/10. Points dropped because it's very expensive compared to the competition, a charger isn't included, and because of the mid range slight muddling (to my ears). I really need to listen to more types of music over a longer time to see if I'm happy with the mids, but then it is a small portable speaker not a fixed hifi speaker so expectations need to be appropriate.I'd perhaps have preferred to use it for longer before being asked for a review, but the perverse incentive of offering a possible voucher win for reviewing it kicked in...It might have had a better (or worse) score/review in a month.I'm very happy with RS's sales.

Good sound, dismal connectivity

I've had my Sonos Roam for a couple of months now and want so much to love this thing, but keep running into challenges that make me doubt whether I'll continue to explore the Sonos ecosystem of products.Note - this is my first Sonos product. Sound quality is good compared to other similarly sized speakers, but doesn't "wow" me like experiences I've had with other Sonos products. Output is sufficient for a small room, but I've found sound quality seems better the further away you are from the speaker.Connectivity and setup with this speaker in general is a failure IMHO. Bluetooth is adequate but if I wanted a simple Bluetooth speaker I'd have shopped elsewhere. Bluetooth is adequate but if I wanted a simple Bluetooth speaker I'd have shopped elsewhere. Using the device over Wi-Fi, connectivity needs to be re-established with every use which is a 2-5 minute minimum process. Why am I adding a "trusted" network to the device if I have to set it up as new each and every time? Likewise, services such as connecting to Spotify need to be re-authenticated frequently and without warning - your device will simply drop out of available devices in Spotify connect after which time to let the diagnosis party begin. Note - if you're having trouble the Sonos forums are your friend. Likewise if you're looking to buy, read the aforementioned forums prior to making your decision.Overall, a decent speaker but would NOT recommend if you aren't already invested in the Sonos ecosystem.

Coming from a jbl extreme 2 speaker. Obviously the sound is not as loud or bass driven. That being said you do get a wonderful sounding speaker that's an extremely small package.I currently have two sono systems.Living room a Beam gen 2 with two era 100s and a sub mini. Bedroom a Ray with two Ones for surround. Being able to add the roam to either room or between the two rooms fills the house with quality sound where you want to be covered with real 360 degree sound. If you have other rooms with Sonos speakers I highly recommend it. Watching the game on the tv I still can bring my roam to grill and listen in or decide to have the patio in sync with the living room. Now for the down side. Battery level is poor and know where 10 hours. To be fair I listen to it ... MoreComing from a jbl extreme 2 speaker. Obviously the sound is not as loud or bass driven. Watching the game on the tv I still can bring my roam to grill and listen in or decide to have the patio in sync with the living room. Now for the down side. Battery level is poor and know where 10 hours. To be fair I listen to it turned up high. It's not a loud speaker but loud enough to add to a room playing music and blend in seamlessly. Bluetooth can be a little frustrating if you walk out of range of the speaker and come back to the roam and reconnect. Some times flawlessly and others not so much. Or will connect and show that it's playing though no sound. It's not a loud speaker or bass driven like other Bluetooth speakers out there for this price range. What you do get is a high quality sound in a very small package. Being able to connect to your other sonos products when listening to music is worth its wait in gold. I needed a speaker that was in this small compact speaker. Sound quality is wonderful for the size. Those who knock the sound is for the bass. Still high quality blended with performance

Not sure I would buy again, not returning it either

I have been a Sonos advocate since the beginning, with my first multi-zone system purchased in 2002. At one point, I was a reseller even. So I have considerable experience with Sonos. I have worked in technology all my career. So it is safe to say that I absolutely know what I am doing. But I have to be clear about a fundamental mistake that Sonos seems to continue to perpetuate. Having S1 and S2 is simply an awful decision. Consumers do not want or care to know the difference. Yet, Sonos continues to separate the two, and forces consumers to sort it out. This must be a huge burden on Sonos' support operation, and I imagine the main source of returns. The limitations of the early-gen hardware CAN be coded around! If you need to limit some components then do so-but ... MoreI have been a Sonos advocate since the beginning, with my first multi-zone system purchased in 2002. At one point, I was a reseller even. If you need to limit some components then do so-but do not put that burden on your customers. Also, setting up the little Roam should have taken less than a minute. But since I have S1 at home, I had to wrestle with setup on S2-and all I wanted to use the Roam for was bluetooth! That should not have been necessary. For those of you who aren't comfortable with multiple add/drop and factory resets, nor patient enough to deal with those idiosyncracies and fiddly bits, this is not the setup for you. If you already have an S2-based system, then you're probably going to be just fine. That said, the sound quality out of this tiny thing is really good (for its size). I am using this as the main audio in my track car (removing the built-in) for when I'm not on track. The Truesound adaptations are pretty good, even though I had hoped for better. And now that I have it all bluetooth-setup, it is super easy to use.

Sonos roam initial use is awesome. Great sound, IP67, portable, wireless charging, all the great stuff. 1 year in and the units starting gving low charge and stopping at 67%. FIgured it was an update issue or user issue with not allowing full discharge. DIscharged the units and back on the charger after a day or 2. still 67% so called Sonos and opened a ticket. Was told it had to do with over heating and the chanrging circuit stops. Let the units cool down and try again. Okay.. but why now are they having this issue? Not just 1 unit but both units acting the same way. After cooling down and trying again.. sonos still didnt charge to 100% like before.. So after a few more failed attempts to try to work through thier over heating scenario of slowly letting the units charge I called and explained. I was tolld the units are over 1 years old and theyre out of any warranty .. at the time of the first call they were 12 months exactly.. by the time of the last call they were 14 months. Don't troubleshoot with Sonos.. DEMAND replacement other wise your stuck with a 200$ piece of shit product and even a bigger piece of shit company. No support for thier failed battery charging system on the Roam. I will never recommend another sonos prodcut period .
