Also, the settings button is immediately under the power button on the upper right -- so a bunch of times I have hit power meaning to go to settings. If you're playing a game, that can have severe repercussions. I have used worse remotes from Sony, but this is much more of a Google-produced piece of hardware (in my opinion). However, it is Bluetooth -- a saving grace! The TV has some strange, unexplainable quirks. Like the hideous static click everytime the screen changes. I've replaced HDMI cables, looked at everything Sony related I can about it to no avail. Overall, I highly recommed it if you want a big screen at an affordable price. While saying affordable may make some people squirm, the options are so far at the other end of the price spectrum they made me start reducing the size screen I wanted. Until I found this set and countless positive reviews about it. OLED vs LED/LCD? I thought about it, a lot. This TV won because 1. It's Sony. 2. Affordable OLED uses terms like QLED and Mini LED to differentiate themselves from the high-end OLEDs (probably to placate those with bottom-less wallets who don't want what just anybody can have). Since I swim with the regular folk I don't mind having a great TV that most of us can afford. Even if it takes me a year to pay for it.

THE GOOD: My first 55" tv ever and the first Sony in 25 years! First, the picture (4K) is superb and worth the cost. It walks all over ANY 1080 image! Plenty of adjustments you can make )some required reading to see exactly what they do). Another positive is the weight at appx 50-55 pounds. Not bad because it is a big TV and should have some heft. Finally, sound is surprisingly GOOD for flat screen TV speakers. These speakers can get loud while staying quite clear, but this is no hard hitting subwoofer! As it sits, I had an easy time adjusting settings for loud/clear audio for NASCAR races and Indycar races. I wish this Sony had 4 corner woofers for tight bass accompanying the good high and mid range sound it already has. Well I use a ROKU with about 6 pay-for streaming channels and none are Google TV that the Sony software pushes so hard. Sony should offer a TOP version HDMI cable for a great HDMI experience. PRICE: Obviously not cheap or free, but under $1000 with taxes and shipping. $865 shipped by FedEx 2-day delivery was fine with me. The BAD: I feel Sony could have given a stronger warranty for a new, higher end set with a load of tips and tricks. I think a solid 6- month FULL COVERAGE warranty of items with shipping, handling, wear and tear, AND a comparable to even 1 step-up better model TV set to take its place in the event something goes afoul. Finally back to speakers: these are great but with some Sony engineering magic, add a true bass speaker in the lower left and lower right front fascia to broadcast out hard hitting, tight, snappy BASS! Not a subwoofer; they would need too much room. 2 or even 4 square woofers would add next level sound! David

Attempting to "format" for recording fails, and it looks like it would have overwritten the storage anyway so it seems it can't be shared for storage and recording. Alexa was a pain to hook up, but it is possible.

It took Sony 7weeks to send out an engineer who immediately ch aged it for a new tv…result! However two weeks ago the tv started to switch itself off and flash red on the led. I followed all the troubleshooting advice and reset the tv multiple times as it continued to switch off. I also changed any settings (when the tv actually worked) that the troubleshooting suggested maybe causing the issue. The tv eventually switched off and would not power on again. I've had this TV for 2 years. It's not new, but it's remarkable. My wife and I continue to marvel at the colours and clarity. Things really appear three dimensional. Sometimes it's a bit uncanny. If you give it a good 4K signal - wow. If you give it a good 1080 signal, it'll upscale. The tv has gotten worse with age and after only a year airways feels like it's going to crash. Have called Sony many times, initially they were helpful but with persistent problems have just started playing the usual game of fobbing me off. Their answer to my issues is to keep resetting the tv to factory settings or update to latest system even though it is already and have supplied the evidence. They said they would send an engineer but now not interested in helping.

Further instructions are available using the on-screen help, although my personal choice would be to have a proper printed instruction manual as I find this easy to use/follow, but understand this probably helps to keep costs down and also save a bit on the environment. I am very pleased with the excellent picture quality and would rate sound quality as good. I am going to add a sound bar in the not too distant future to further enhance the sound as this for me adds to the effect when watching movies.

However, I was very disappointed once I figured out what was going on under the hood. The screen looked funky since the second I turned it on. Pixels looked like they were almost aligned in a checkerboard pattern, skipping between even and odd columns from row to row. You can't really notice from far away, but something isn't right when you get close. Even from far away you lose a bit of detail, and aliased edges look worse. When taking pictures of this, I also discovered that my unit had some dead pixels. I've arranged to exchange it tomorrow, but after talking to Sony directly who said that this was a "feature" but refused to tell me which TV's did not have the feature, beyond the A80J which I already knew didn't do this, as someone on reddit who changed their mind from an X85J to an A80J was kind enough to take a close look for me. The kicker is, while arranging transportation, turns out one of my friends' roommates bought this exact TV, but from Amazon! They gave a little more weight to the reviews, what I wrote off as user error, they figured they were taking a chance, and they were right! Their exact same TV, same 43" X85J from Amazon, does not do what my set does. I trust them, but to be 110% sure I'm going to see it with my own eyes tomorrow. By using every other pixel its effectively 1920x1080p, just spaced out across 3840x2160p. It would be fine if I was OK with using the TV In Graphics Picture mode all the time, but I'm actually a fan of motionflow and frame interpolation. Its not fair that someone I know paid the exact same amount as me, got the same size and model of TV, but theirs actually has all its bells and whistles in 4K while I have to turn mine off to get actual 4K. I'm hoping that when I exchange my unit tomorrow, I might be lucky and get a good unit like my friends' roommate. I wouldn't be surprised however if its another lemon, and I have to go to Amazon to get a decent unit. I'll update my review later if possible!
