I have only had this TV for 2 weeks but am totally amazed at the difference of clarity of picture to my previous one. Yes, I have upgraded to this smart version and so glad I did. I researched the different ones on offer and decided on balance the Sony Bravia came out on top of most surveys so took the plunge. When I first took it out of the box I had bit of a shock that it looked so much smaller than I expected even though it was the same screen size as my previous TV. However, once connected the picture fills the screen and appears so much bigger than when switched off. This is a very neat and compact looking television which has a wonderful picture quality along with good sound quality.

I'm in my 60's... and see no point in owning movies and documentaries in 4K format. So this TV's 'upscaling' for my reasonably impressive collection of blu-rays.. to 'close to 4K' standard is very satisfactory. The remote is very easy to get used to, perhaps the only annoying thing is not having a numeric keypad. Having said that though.. it's "program category" search feature is useful. I'll just say I love the TV. 65" is big enough for me, my family, and our lounge room. The "smart" feature... works well. (Though this may be related to us being fortunate enough to have 'fibre to the premises' broadband connection

Sure, the Samsung and LG are thinner and lighter, but the Sony won out where it counts - image, sound, interface etc. Setup was a little frustrating, rather than just the simple Google Setup you had to sign up and log into various Sony bloatware, but once done it isn't intrusive into the day to day use like Samsung's. The only gripe I have is the remote. After experiencing the Google TV Redkite that works from the next room by Bluetooth, I've found the Sony remote pretty unresponsive at times, especially when changing the volume. Only had this model about a month and it’s great. Have had the 55 inch of this model in the man cave for a few years now and again no issues and love it. So when I needed a new tv for the lounge room, it was a no brainer for me. Ticked all the boxes in terms of features and specs, plus was a great price (purchased during a sale). I find the picture colours look fantastic and the home menu/remote easy to use and navigate. Setup was a breeze. Simple elegant black frame and legs. Input plugs are in a good location for me. Just a good all round tv from a quality brand.
Comparing TVs in the shop the Sony stood out for clarity of picture and vibrancy of colours. The one fly in the ointment for me is the remote control, which is about as basic as it's possible to get. In particular there is no fast forward or rewind control, or skip forward or back a number of seconds. I have a small hearing deficiency, which means I sometimes do not understand dialog, especially if its whispered, so I need to be able to skip back a few seconds (say 5) to try to understand what's been said. Impossible with the stock Sony remote.
This was an insurance replacement for my 7 year old Sony 55x8509cbu which was an absolutely awesome TV. The X80k is no let down either with great features. I’m a real fan of the android operating system and the settings are easy to navigate as well as being user friendly. However, being a lower end TV the sound and picture options are limited when compared to higher end options. If I had the choice I would have gone for a higher specification model. But you won’t be disappointed with the TV - the picture quality and brightness is great. However, you may have lip sync issues using a Sky Q box, for which I haven’t yet been able to fix so suspect will need to buy a soundbar. No such issues when viewing via the apps (Netflix, Prime etc or playing a Blu-ray). Everything with this TV is self explanatory. Start with the box, it has pictures to tell you how to open the box and read the setup guide inside.Then, all instructions are picture related and you really can not go wrong. After turn on. the TV will guide you to set it up. If you have Google home built in, it will work like a breeze. Picture qulaity are beautiful fro any angle. This TV really change my mind about viewing angle problem. There are none! The TV is also beautifully made. Awesome.
Remote is very difficult to use. Because there are no numeric keys (0-9) on the remote, changing channels is a nightmare. You need to bring up the onscreen menu and use the arrows to move around and select the channel number. It takes ages and multiple button presses to change channels. The Google Assistant input function on the remote works poorly. Works for some channels but doesn't work for the rest. The TeleText font is ugly and unpleasant to look at. It is too big and doesn't look good.
So I had an hitachi TV which I had bought in haste and without thinking through the number of years it's gonna last and boom, a year's time just like that one day it stopped working. Well luckily I was within warranty and was asked to get it replaced. Now when I went into the store to get this done I didn't have the same brand to exchange so was looking for other options. O'course Sony has been the family brand for me but me living by myself now couldn't afford it earlier. Reality struck and (O'course my best friend and the salesperson guided me in this) I realised that Sony TV has been sitting in my family house for decades now and not once had it failed.
