Had the TV for nearly a month. for the price it punches above it's weight and is quite good. There are a few niggles though:* The TV guide caches about 10 channels at a time, and takes around 5 - 10 seconds to skip to the next one in the list.* The wifi connection when in DHCP needs to be reset pretty much every day. it just plain sucks. assigning a static IP in the router fixes this issue.* The sound on, screen off function is a great idea but it needs to have a config to disable it. Often when I turn off the TV it only turns the screen off, hearing random voices at 3am is not cool. Sometimes when I turn the TV back on too the screen off function is still active. annoying.* Not a freeview TV, so you have to go to the apps instead of using the green ... MoreHad the TV for nearly a month. for the price it punches above it's weight and is quite good. The plus side is the image is bright and sharp, apps are pretty quick to load and overall it's a good TV in the lower end of the scale. Compared to the Hisense it replaced it's astoundingly better in image quality, but the software bugs take the shine off a little.

Very happy with our Sony tv, love the android platform it's running on and therefore it was easy to set up and sync with my phone.Operating this tv is not so straight forward as our last Samsung tv. The remote control and the menu display is not as straightforward as Samsung .After switching from the PlayStation back to tv channels, you have to access the settings in top right corner, then choose input, yeah a bit annoying. HDR settings are not easy to access either and had to YouTube it to get to it. How hard is it to add a HDR option to the menu, Sony? Also flicking up and down through the channels could happen a bit faster too. It's a bit on the slow side, especially compared to Samsung's remote. All over, we a pretty happy with this tv, though and would definitely recommend to buy it.

Issues I found
10 June 2024

I bought this TV considering its specs look wonderful and for the sale price it was available to buy on.I was very disappointed with overall quality of the TVBrightness is not that great, HDR content is too dark. Gaming is good though. On top, we have a massive light bleed at the bottom central pane and it really distracts to view anything in dark scenes, your eyes won't see anything else but wander to that spot.I used it for 2 weeks plus and I tried all sorts of calibration to see if I can achieve the best quality, however, I strongly feel this TV quality is what it is and I can't make it work better.I decided to return this product and I'm now waiting for refund process. Love the TV - BB Experience Meh

This TV is great! Picture and sound quality are fantastic, it's easy to navigate the interface, and it's so much smoother than my old TCL!The downside was the Best Buy experience. I ordered this product Open Box in Excellent condition, which means it should come with all of the pieces. My TV was missing its remote. The first Best Buy agent I spoke to told me I had to transport my entire 43" TV to a physical Best Buy store, return it, and wait for a replacement in the mail. As a disabled woman who does not drive and whose nearest Best Buy is a 30+ minute drive away, this was not feasible. A few days later, I contacted Best Buy again with another set of solutions to propose: if they could either A) mail me a remote or B) give me a $20 gift card to cover the cost of ... MoreThis TV is great! A few days later, I contacted Best Buy again with another set of solutions to propose: if they could either A) mail me a remote or B) give me a $20 gift card to cover the cost of me buying one, that would work for me. The new agent said that neither of those were possible but that if I could make it to a Best Buy store, I could get a replacement remote there without having to bring the TV. After mathing it out, I discovered it would be more expensive for me to go all the way to a Best Buy and back than for me to buy a replacement remote (Sony brand, and all) on Amazon. So I did that instead. I simply don't understand why the onus was on me when it was Best Buy's mistake when checking the open box item that caused the issue in the first place.

I have the NVIDIA Shield TV, so I don't need the Android TV installed inside the TV. But I have to deal with it. By dealing with it, I mean - sometimes it does not start with the right HDMI input active. Not always, but regularly, enough to annoy you because you have to find its original remote and switch the input. And it happens not only with Shield; the same issue exists with PS5. You can make it less smart by refusing to log in to your Google account. In this case, you can still access the Netflix or other Streaming apps preinstalled on the TV. But it will try to show you ads on the Home screen. Then, System notification -- the TV will show them to you even if you use an external source. I've just blocked the internet for it in my router and removed permissions to show notifications for some system apps.Sometimes, it starts like it was not in a Standby mode but was completely turned off, and in this case, you have to switch input manually again.TV supports HDMI CEC; It supports auto-switching to the Game mode for PS5 and returns to your other choice for input. The picture itself is good.HDR support does exist only for FullHD resolution (by PS5 report).Unfortunately, my return window is closed.

Sony Bravia TV? Yay! Google TV? Meh...
19 January 2024

I've always been a fan of Sony TVs. The Bravia series in particular has always been really solid. Got my first one back in 2013, and Sony keeps putting out great TVs with excellent picture & color & performance. Works great for watching movies & playing console video games, and I'm actually using it right now as a monitor for my Mac computer. Pretty much flawless. My only issue is the fact that it's a Google TV. This isn't a Google vs. Apple issue (although I admittedly very much prefer the Apple platform over Google), but more of a functionality issue. There are aspects of the Google TV user experience that I've been pleasantly surprised with (I particularly like being able to create a kids' account with easily manageable restrictions), but navigating the interface still seems a bit convoluted, particularly when using a normal non-kids' account. I'd love to be able to customize on which tab the interface menu begins as their default is needlessly crammed with stuff."Check this out! Wouldn't it be awesome if you watched this? Don't forget about this one!" I get it, Google. Settle down a bit. If you're going to show me options, afford me the control to select which options I want. That said, I do believe the very-affordable price point comes as part of Google's partnership with Sony, so I'm grateful that it made this TV more affordable for the upgrade we wanted to do. I think Google could just do a better job with their user interface. They gush about the depths of customization they allow on their platforms & hardware that I'm surprised by how restrictive this interface is. Simplify!

PSA I got this as an open box during holiday sales. Product was as described and free of cosmetic and functional defects. I have a note on this at the end.Onto the review!I was stunned at the quality of picture and sound. I realized when you’re looking at TVs in store you can’t really assess the quality in sound and picture because of the ambient noise and harsh lighting. The sound quality is what stands out the most. The only issue is that I notice sudden increases in sound more and none of the adjustments in settings seen to make a difference. HOWEVER it has a Bluetooth feature that I can hook up to my AirPods Pro when I don’t want to disturb anyone. The picture quality is so good that I’m becoming a glare snob. I wanted something that was going to last longer and everything I read about Sonys is how they last so long people usually get rid of them because they’re upgrading to the new model for better sound/picture.Open Box review: always do this if you have the option. Even the lowest quality option, as long as it’s not refurbished, is basically the same new product minus packaging and/or a few factory accessories you either throw out or replace with better ones.
