The purchase of the Sony A7IV was well researched and considered thoroughly and so far this camera has not disappoint.Having moved from 47 MP Full Frame Leica, I initially had a slight hesitation whether the 33 MP on the Sony sensor will match performance, but very shortly my hesitation was overcomes by the rich colour rendering and accurate metering of A7IV.Autofocus hybrid system ( contrast + phase ) do make a remarkable difference and whilst I primarily shoot landscape / architecture / environmental portraits, as a hobbyist - I have to say that the AF is on a different level. Subject recognition ( eye tracking ) is brilliant.Paired with the one and only prime lens I have for this system - 35 mm 1.4 GM, makes me appreciate the level of crisp detailed ...Ā MoreThe purchase of the Sony A7IV was well researched and considered thoroughly and so far this camera has not disappoint.Having moved from 47 MP Full Frame Leica, I initially had a slight hesitation whether the 33 MP on the Sony sensor will match performance, but very shortly my hesitation was overcomes by the rich colour rendering and accurate metering of A7IV.Autofocus hybrid system ( contrast + phase ) do make a remarkable difference and whilst I primarily shoot landscape / architecture / environmental portraits, as a hobbyist - I have to say that the AF is on a different level. I wasn't sure I was able to stomach the eye-watering cost of this camera as I don't even use the video function at all. But... I have no regrets. The A7 IV coupled with a Tamron 28-200mm lens is a powerful and versatile combination. The photos are incredible and the RAW images capture so much data to manipulate on Lightroom than I've ever seen before. Viewfinder is good, screen quality is great, battery life is fine and lack of charger is no both as I just charge the battery within the camera via my phone charger. My only issue is the lack of 'focus stack mode' that comes on the Canon and Nikons. I'm hoping that's going to appear in a SW update soon. Also the accompanying app is a bit slow but I'm hoping the new version is going to make a difference.

Bought the camera over a month ago. Been my first Sony camera ever, I've been a different brand shooter for over 5 years. Obviously I will compare it with my other cameras. Although it features a 33mp sensor, and some will say a better low light performance, comparing with my previous camera can't say there's much of difference, although my camera had 2 years since release. After using it for few days, I've started to encounter this weird EyeAf focusing issue, every few shots I had more front focus or back focus than acceptable hits, like 6out of 10 were miss focused, on eyebrows or nose. That happened on wide aperture from 1.8 to 2.8 even 4. It happened on different focusing zones when eye af was priority. As this wasn't bad enough, the focus box confirmed focus on ...Ā MoreBought the camera over a month ago. Been my first Sony camera ever, I've been a different brand shooter for over 5 years. As this wasn't bad enough, the focus box confirmed focus on one eye and to find out that the other eye was more in focus, than the eye that should have been but was not. Seems there are more people encountered this issue, sadly the camera became unreliable for my use. Have no idea if this is a hardware or software related issue, as Sony support isn't that helpful as you would expect. Also, my a7iv copy seems to have more noise than normal even at low ISO, from 160 to 400 it looks like 800 to 1000 on my different brand camera (2 years old) in controled lighting conditions. It leeds me to believe that quality control isn't that strict as I would have thought for a big company like Sony. I am aware that there is a world chip crisis, but for no reason customer should pay that price, they should receive a faultless product that works as advertised.

I have just bought this a7iv after months of reviews and research because I was upgrading from a very normal camera. I am still learning and doing trial and error with it. It has so many settings and features so I'm taking my time to get to grips with all. Talking about grips, this camera feels excellent to hold, it has a professional feel and look to it. Conclusion after just over a month now,I I do genuinely believe that I have not made a mistake in any way to buy the A7IV and hope it stays that way in the future. I would highly recommend this camera but everyone has their own choice, taste and reasons. I know like myself people who are interested to invest in a set up do read and watch a lot of reviews before purchasing and that's the only way I think is the best ...Ā MoreI have just bought this a7iv after months of reviews and research because I was upgrading from a very normal camera. I bought two of these cameras a couple of weeks back to replace Canon cameras. I was told a lot of rubbish about how bad the menus were, how poor the ergonomics of the cameras was and other totally untrue stuff. My experience is that 24hours after getting them I was able to undertake a 4 hour shoot with a model, taking over 400 pictures with complete confidence in the cameras. The results that I had so far are absolutely first class. I don't intend to get into a lot of technical detail, there plenty of detailed reviews available, but I would say that these cameras are well built, have an excellent feature set, are easy to use and, most of all, produce absolutely superb results. These comments come from someone who has been a high end Canon user for many years.
Before I go on to talk about all the great things about this camera, I must mention the thing that has been the biggest drawback for me. I didnāt realise that āRAWā is not the same with all cameras. My husband has the A7iii, and has no problems reading RAW files with his iPad whereas I cannot read RAW files from my A7iv on my iPad using Appleās RAW engine (they just appear totally black). I donāt know why Sony needed to change the standard so it was incompatible, or whether Apple will (some day) update their RAW engine so it will read the files - either way, itās a pain in the backside! I have found a way around it (sort of), by importing the RAW files into Affinity Photo from the āfilesā app, but as you can only do it one at a time itās not ideal. The jpeg files can be read by the Apple system, so review is possible if I record jpeg and RAW on separate cards. At this price point, however, I would expect that most purchasers will be expecting to work in RAW.I have been extremely happy with the focussing system - the human/animal/bird eye autofocus seems to work well. Tracking is excellent (but Iāll need more practice to understand how āstickyā to make it in various situations). The twist and tilt screen is very useful for taking high and low angle shots, and I like the fact that when it is stored it protects the screen. The camera is infinitely customisable - you just have to remember what function you put where!Iām looking forward to taking it on an extended field test to see exactly what I can do with it.
I purchased my a7iv in June 2022 and a bit over a year later, yesterday to be more precise, I decided to turn on the function that covers the sensor when power off and saw my shutter. I was a bit shocked to discover that it has some damage with the top blade having two marks on the upper edge with missing material and the blades below looking scratched probably by the top one.I think this has been going on for a while because I remember maybe half a year ago when I changed my lens that I saw some dirt on my sensor that looked a lot like metal shavings. At the time I couldn't understand where did that come from but now it makes sense. For a new camera only a bit over a year old with pretty low shutter count (30629) and very well maintained as I baby my gear, this ... MoreI purchased my a7iv in June 2022 and a bit over a year later, yesterday to be more precise, I decided to turn on the function that covers the sensor when power off and saw my shutter. I'll attach a photo of the shutter. The camera is obviously out of warranty and I was quoted £270 just for the labour plus whatever cost is added for the parts.I would understand if the shutter count would be really high but that's not the case. The camera still works properly but now I fear that it might brake soon.
Absolutely love this camera, I came from a Canon 5D MKIII with a few canon lenses, I wanted a update so the A7IV wasn't out very long and I went and tried it out in store and was blown away, image quality was amazing, lenses were super sharp, menu was the hardest part for me to get used to. After using it for a good few months now I have captured some of my favourite images, the focus is second to none with eye focus for portraits and animal eye focus giving super sharp images. Battery life is superb for a mirrorless camera, I have two just in case but I can easily got out for a good 4-5 hours and shoot and not worry. Really nice in hand to use, a nice gap between camera body and lenses when using and it's not heavy when I am using the 24-105 lens with it. overall I ...Ā MoreAbsolutely love this camera, I came from a Canon 5D MKIII with a few canon lenses, I wanted a update so the A7IV wasn't out very long and I went and tried it out in store and was blown away, image quality was amazing, lenses were super sharp, menu was the hardest part for me to get used to. As a Nikon shooter and Fuji shooter I thought I would ātest the waterā with Sony after all the hype about the focussing system .Not disappointed, extremely good and the added bonus of so many customisable buttons. Coupled with the small 24,40 and 80mm f1.8 it makes a great street travel camera .Would I sell my Nikon gear and go completely Sony? Not sure , it depends what Sony come out with next in the sport camera section . The ergonomics of the Sony cameras do not fit my big hands well when using a large aperture lens . Hopefully they will bring out an integrated vertical grip better ergonomics sports camera . Then I just may be tempted
I have been a long time Sony camera user. I have used a350, a33, a99, A7ii and iii and rx100 series. I have been waiting for a camera like the a7iv forever.I am so glad it finally has a flip screen. I take a lot of shots using portrait orientation and the flip screen gives me more choice for compositions! I also love the addition of an extra customisable dial where the exposure compensation dial was. There are many customise buttons and dials which I can make the most of. The rear monitorās colour is more accurate in sunny weather mode and the EVF is bigger and crisper. I also love the larger grip of this camera which is comfortable to hold but the camera is still compact and light weight. The new resolution of 33MP is the sweet spot for me, handy when I want to ...Ā MoreI have been a long time Sony camera user. Speaking of which, the bird eye focus mode is a great addition to the already great Sony AF system.I think this camera has many practical improvements and changes. I like the handling and usability of this new a7 model. The handling, usability and general āfeelā of the camera is something you donāt find on the spec sheet but you do appreciate when you use it.I feel that Sony listened to my wish list and made this camera especially for me:-) I am very happy with this new camera and looking forward to taking many shots with it!
