I am the type of person who only wears headphones for a specific purpose or task; I can't wait to get them off. I am so glad I found the Sony Bravia U, it offers the hands-free convenience and portability of headphones without the discomfort and limited sound stage. The fit was perfect for my mid-size frame and the middle section (between the 2 sections of the U) is bendable to allow some adjustment for fit.2. Excellent soundstage - these do a great job of giving audio sources depth and recreating the surround sound effect of a theater. Audio quality is also good overall for music - highs are not as crisp as I would like and there is a lack of deep bass but using the custom equalizer in the Sony Headphones app helped get everything balanced.3. Battery life exceeds the 12 hours of play time quoted by Sony - only requiring a recharge every few days for me.4. Allows you to connect to 2 Bluetooth devices at once (the headphones toggle between the devices depending on which has active audio, but it is also easy to swap between devices in the Sony Headphones app to ensure you get the desired source).5. Built-in microphone allows you to use these as a headset.6. Good sized physical buttons for volume, mute, play/pause, and power.7. Wired connection - offers additional device connection options using the included auxiliary audio jack to USB-C adapter. The included 4ft audio cable is separate from the adapter, so you can buy a longer cable if needed. I did notice that the max volume was a little lower than when using Bluetooth, but there was no change in audio quality.8. The Sony Heaphones app is straight forward to use, and you don't have to sign up to use it. It offers a basic equalizer, devices settings (auto-power off, Bluetooth audio quality, and connected device management), and 360 audio configuration (including an optional ear analyzer that takes pictures of your ear to match the sound to your ear shape).***Things to Consider***1. 360 audio support is limited to a few apps and Sony TVs - don't let this deter you - audio quality and sound stage are great even without this feature.2. The one thing these cannot replicate is the bass/rumble you get from a home theater subwoofer. It is not a deal breaker from me, but it is noticeable in action movies where you have things like explosions and crashes.3. Charging is quick with the right USB charger, but only a 6-inch USB-C cable is provided for charging; you will need find your own charger or use one you already have (Sony recommends a charger capable of 1.5A at 5V and says not to exceed 3A).4. IPX4 is a good rating for water resistance and should work to ensure a little rain or sweat will not damage them (just be careful around the pool or bath as they are not waterproof).5. I have not tried it, but the ability to share audio with a second Bravia U for watching movies with some else on tablet or laptop seems like a great idea (if you can afford a second one).

This has replaced all my earphones at the moment and gives me what I look for to enjoy music while still being around others. I'm aware they're made for TV listening, but please don't look at this point of view. It's for everything, especially music. The reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is that the lack of bass and call quality can be better. I'm aware bass would make people neck shake, but I just know Sony will figure something out to make a difference in the next model. I'm also impressed that you can put these down a table or hang it somewhere and they become a portable speaker loud enough for a large room to enjoy, that was a crazy highlight of a feature so Thank You Sony for that! (Please don't get crazy and lower the volume on these for future models for the sake of cost-cutting, the muti-purpose is amazing) I would like to mention that the Sony headphone connect app is awesome with its built-in Equalizer, so take advantage of that as well! (Sony would be nice if they took some pages from Sennheiser Equalizer app), but yes, pretty impressive device being a 2nd generation model and the price is worth it. Some great deals to get an awesome price on these, too, but give them a try! Won't regret! I look forward to a 3rd generation model in a few years with expected improvements, Thank You!

Using these speakers, he was able to pick up every nuance of the show's dialog, while still be able to enjoy all the 3D surround sound effects and music. He was impressed.I then took the speakers downstairs to our TV of another brand. It does not support 360 Reality Audio. Bluetooth setup was just as quick as with the Bravia. Once connected, the sound was still surround and rich, with clear dialog. These speakers allow you to sit and enjoy the show without blasting out the neighbors and while still being able to converse with your spouse.We were so impressed with the Sony - HTAN7 BRAVIA Theater U Wearable TV Speakers that we went and ordered another one. Both of us can sit and enjoy the sounds individually, but together.I would definitely suggest them to friends and family.

The connection was seamless and straightforward, thanks to the included 3mm audio jack to USB-C and plugging right into your controller for being able to use the built in microphone. Once set up, the audio low latency was virtually non-existent, which is key for gaming. The 360 degree surround sound capabilities brought games like "Warzone" and "Spider-Man 2" to life. Every detail, from the ambient noises of the games were enhanced, making the gaming experience incredibly immersive.Battery life in the Theater U Wearable is very solid, offering around 12 hours on a full charge, which is more than enough for using it during the day for work calls and then at the end of the day for some gaming or a couple of shows. Charging is straightforward with just unhooking the rubber flap and revealing the USB-C connection, and its Quick charging gives you up to 60 minutes of playback on a 10-minute charge. The controls are intuitively placed,on the left speaker to adjust the volume up or down and then a pause button in between those. Then on the right speaker is the mic mute button and the power and bluetooth pairing button. The ability of also being able to pair this to two devices at once is huge, especially if you are watching a show but you then get a phone call, you can easily switch between the two devices with its multi-point connection, take the call and as soon as you hang up go back to your movie or show.While the BRAVIA Theater U Wearable TV Speaker is impressive, it's not without its minor flaws. The price is on the higher side, which might be a deterrent for some. Additionally, while the sound quality is great, it is lacking bass compared to a soundbar or a home theater system. However, given the device's versatility, portability and convenience, these are minor trade-offs.Overall, the Sony BRAVIA Theater U Wearable TV Speaker is for those wanting an open ear sound device that can be used in multiple different environments. Personally I found the settings to be perfect for me right out of the box. The APP SETTINGS are (1) Adaptive Sound Control (2) Activity Settings (3) 360 Reality Audio Setup and Ear Analysis Results ~ yes the app will photograph both your ears to be sure you have the best setup (4) Automatic Download Software Settings and (5) Notification Setting. I have a music channel that offers some of the 360 Spatial tunes but in my personal opinion the Bravia sounds fabulous with or without using it. No need to spend extra money just to get that feature ~ they are fine just as is.One more thing is my husband is very hard of hearing. When he doesn't have his hearing aids connected to his phone's Bluetooth the TV is blasting me out of the house so I decided to have him try these on. Lo and behold he could hear the TV perfectly!! Smiles all around when we discovered that! So they are excellent for those who don't hear so well too.Even though the price range might not fit everyone's budget I'd buy another pair of these in a heartbeat and probably will since the husband wants to use them and so do I. They are just so simple to operate, great size with nicely placed buttons and I honestly don't know how I managed without them. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED folks! You will not be disappointed!

Find it on your phone’s list of available Bluetooth devices and you’re good to go. I already had the Sony Headphones app, and it instantly recognized the Theater U. Setting sound options, such as EQ was very easy – more on that later. Upon starting up the first song, I was immediately impressed with how good this thing sounds. Music was rich and full, with nice clean bass and crisp, clear high notes. In a direct comparison with a good set of earbuds, the Theater U lacked the immediacy of the earbuds, but the open air sound brings a different kind of ambience and sound stage that earbuds just can’t replicate. With earbuds, you’re always aware that you’re listening with something in your ears that’s trying to sound like a room full of speakers. With the Theater U, it actually is a set of speakers firing at your ears. It’s a subtle difference, but one that I really enjoy. What’s really nice is that you can listen to your music without being cut off from your surroundings. With so many open ear options available today, it’s nice to find one that doesn’t sacrifice sound quality in exchange for situational awareness.Watching TV with the Theater U:Sony markets this as wireless audio for watching movies or playing games at home. I’m not a gamer, but I was looking forward to using it with my Samsung QLED television. The Theater U paired easily with the TV, but when I chose to connect and listen through the Theater U, I experienced stuttering audio until it just quit trying. I unplugged and restarted the TV, but got the same result. After multiple tries, I gave up. Even changing the setting in the app to tell it to prioritize a stable Bluetooth connection didn’t make difference. It’s disappointing that the main use case for these is the one I can’t use. I might not have been surprised if I were using an off-brand TV, but this one is a major brand that’s only a few years old, so it should have worked.Theater U and working from home/phone calls:Having a dedicated mute button makes the Theater U into a portable speakerphone for working from home. I’m on conference calls all the time, and using the Theater U frees me from sitting in front of my computer and allows me to move around while staying connected. A simple press of the mute button on the right speaker toggles the microphone on or off. The excellent sound quality makes it easy to hear the participants on a call, and no one had any trouble hearing me as well. Using the Theater U as a hands-free speaker phone also works well. The speakers are comfortable enough to just keep wearing them all day to be ready when a call comes in. If all you want is a wearable speaker for calls and meetings, Sony’s NB10 wearable speaker is smaller, lighter and much cheaper, but is nowhere close to the sound quality of the Theater U.Using the app:The Sony headphones app continues to improve, and it works well with the Theater U. Multiple EQ options including 2 custom settings allow you to tweak the sound to your liking. Sony continues to partner with several providers to offer 360 Audio. I tried this and thought it was enjoyable, but not something I want to pay for. I did go through the Audio 360 setup, however, and thought it was interesting that Sony uses pictures of your ears to tune its sound output.Conclusion:Are these the wearable Bluetooth speakers for you? They boast excellent sound, are very comfortable and don’t require anything to be in your ears, and can serve as a great work from home mobile speaker system. The problem is that there are many wireless earbuds and headphones that can do the same thing and also allow you to use them for completely private audio in a coffee shop or while walking around the neighborhood. As a wearable speaker, they’re best suited for the home, and I can see how they would be great for a less invasive listening experience while watching a movie, but I wasn’t able to experience that for myself. Using it with Playstation 5 requires the use of a special cable that connects to the controller. That would eliminate any issues caused by Bluetooth, but the cable might be a little annoying. I’m not a gamer, but thought you should know.At $299, the Theater U is a little pricey for an audio device that really can’t be your go-to in all situations. If you just can’t stand having earbuds in your ears and aren’t happy with the other open-ear offerings, the Theater U is a great choice and sounds better than any other open-ear product available. If you’re a gamer or can use these with your TV, they provide a great audio experience that won’t disturb the whole house. Outside of these groups, it may be difficult to justify, but I am very impressed with the Theater U. They accomplish what Sony set out to do, and have improved greatly on past iterations.

Also at this loud volume, it wreaks havoc with anyone sitting in the same room let alone sitting next to you, and a 1-star reduction in its rating. If you are looking to listen to music, you may find yourself sitting in a room alone or using a much lower volume than you prefer and at the same time sacrifice the 360 spatial sounds. Even though there was much clarity and spatial surround sound, there was the lack of bass, a big miss for me, and a 1-star reduction in its rating. Sony probably would need to add two additional speakers to capture the base but not sure if this would cause a displeasing bass thump or vibration on one's neck. As for listening to TV, I paired it to my Sony 85" Bravia XR X95K via Bluetooth. The sound of the TV in this device was really not much different than listening to music so I see no real need to provide further information. The experience in sound quality and lack of bass was still the same.So, in my summary of this product, it isn't a replacement of a good surround sound system or good headphones or earbuds. I'm not quite sure anyone will really have the, "I've got to have this" type of moment. When things fall short of annoying others sitting in a room while I watch TV or listen to music, I have to think of other reasons why one may like this product outside of me. If you don't like wearing headphones or want to have the ability to hear others around you, you may like this product.In closing, having a horseshoe shaped device priced at $299.99 around your neck needs to produce in my opinion, a WOW moment/factor. Since I charged them initially, I have not recharged them through 3 or so hours of TV use and about 8 hours of audio books and calls.The design works very well, they sit hanging off your shoulders well with the slight weight keeping them in place. The band in between is bendable if you want to restrict how much they move around, by making them more of a V shape towards the front of your neck. The buttons are easy to get use to and are large enough to be able to use one handed.I would recommend this for somebody wanting a change from on the ears or in the ears sound, they are great for watching TV without having the speakers loud.

It immediately paired to my iPhone 15 Pro, asked me to download the Sony Headphone Connect app. The app made pairing additional devices simple - I connected it to my Google TV device, my Nintendo Switch, and my Windows laptop. This is designed to allow two devices connected at once, so you can leave your phone paired while watching TV.I also used the analog audio cable, which was easy enough to use with the laptop. It was kind of on the short side, but was adequate for me.Bluetooth performance depends on the device and what you’re doing. I found that watching live broadcast TV with the Google TV device had some lag, but screaming was fine. Gaming on my phone, laptop, and Switch wirelessly all also had audio lag. This, unfortunately, is the drawback of Bluetooth. Analog mode fixes this.The real draw of this device is 3D positional audio. While it works well, it’s limited. You can use a few music apps on the iPhone side for 3D audio music, Tidal being the most common service. If you have a recent Sony Bravia TV, you also get Atmos-enabled audio from sources that support it.The only real drawbacks I see with the Bravia Theater U are the lack of full functionality across apps outside of those Sony picked for 3D positional audio and a lack of full features on more TVs. I’d like to see Apple Music and other music services, and the various streaming TV services that support Atmos be supported on phones, tablets, and even PCs and Macs. I’d also like to see more TVs supported, especially Google TV/Android TV devices since Sony’s TVs run Google TV/Android TV.However, the sum of the parts make the Sony Bravia Theater U the best wearable speaker I’ve ever used. I expect this to have a similar following to the original device in this category.

Earbuds wouldn’t work as they tend to fall off his tiny ears. When I placed this speaker on his shoulders, he loved it and no more arguments. We were all happy getting what each of us wanted: the adults wouldn’t be interrupted by a loud TV; and our kid wouldn’t be annoyed by not being able to hear due to adults talking loudly!- Great battery life! I used it for a few days for a total of maybe 7 to 8 hours, mainly watching movies, and the speaker was still going strong! Sony claims you can get up to 12 hours and up to 60 minutes of playback on a 10-minute charge! This is fantastic!- It’s nice to know that the speaker add function makes it possible to pair two BRAVIA Theater U’s at the same time so I can enjoy a TV show or movie with someone else. I didn’t test this though.- All the control buttons (power on, pause, volume up/down, mute) are nicely on the inside of the speaker. I definitely appreciated the convenience of pausing/playing without having to use the TV remote.— Good to know —- If you really want the “360 Spatial Sound” feature, make sure you have a compatible TV. I thought mine was compatible because it was a Sony Bravia but didn’t pay attention to the models. It turns out mine is Sony Bravia A95K (not compatible) instead of the very similar model “A95L” (compatible, among others).- If you have 2 TVs like me, beware that if you pair the speaker to both TVs, and you use one TV while someone else might use the other TV at the same time, the speaker might switch to connect to the other TV even if it’s further away! I wish it was smart enough to connect to the TV that is nearer. Other reviewers say there’s an app you can use to disconnect from the TV you’re not using to make sure it won’t automatically connect, but I didn’t test that.
