These came with the Sony wireless lav set I bought quite a few years ago, and I decided to replace the mics with fresh ones when I noted that the wire was beginning to break where it goes into the jack. I briefly considered going with a less expensive alternative, but only briefly, as I realized the sound quality of these Sonys, along with the locking jack, make the cost well worth it. I need to do no audio sweetening in post - just paste the clip and go! You do need to be gentle when handling these to prevent the wires from being damaged (i'd love it Sony would somehow reinforce where the wire enters the jack), but i suspect that's the case with any lav mic.

Pathetically thin wire. Difficult to solder once the 1/8 end breaks (and it will) because the wire is so tiny. Sound is inconsistent after heavy use in the field. Consider a different brand.

I've used sone UHF lavs for years and they are fantastic. I'm very happy with them. Sound is clean. It's easy to switch frequencies if needed.

Using with a Sony UTX-B2 UHF transmitter for wireless lav during interviews. Audio goes into either a Panasonic Lumix GH4 or a BlackMagic Production Camera 4K. Purchased this item separately as the original mic that came with my Sony wireless setup finally started giving me cable issues (static, pops, interference). It's OK, I rallied the original mic and I'm surprised it lasted so long.
I purchased this mic as a replacement for the original one my Sony wireless system came with. It works perfectly! I think the sound quality is really good too!
I've been using one of these for the past 3 years for everything from interviews to vocals for a performer with poor traditional mic discipline. Outstanding mic for working in environments with high ambient sound levels.
In my opinion, this is one of those parts that you need to pay more for. Yes the price is really ridiculous but the sound quality is much better than the cheap replacements that I have found. You have to take very good care of these and don't allow your subjects to mishandle this cables. It is very fragile! I decided over the years to just take better care of these cables and they go a long way.
This replacement works perfectly, and as a bonus the newer technology sounds better and the diameter of the microphone is about half the size of the original. The smaller size allows more options as regards attaching to the speaker's clothing. B&H really came through quickly for us, since this kind of gear always quits at the worst possible time. We bought 2, so now we have a back-up.
I really enjoy Sony UWP microphones, great sound quality but all the parts are too sensible. Threat them right and take care when you carry and storage them, even doing this, sometime in a short period you will get a broken cable. This specific lapel is pretty fragile and expensive. The that connects the receiver to the camera is cheaper but also fragile.
Though these microphones are not the best available, they do work very well. I have two body packs and one of them began having several decibels of background noise and static on the high end. Process of elimination pointed to the mic. I replaced it with this mic and it works great. Also the clip and windscreen are also much bet than what came with the original.
