I have always lusted after a really good wide angle lens and on changing my Nikon kit recently to the Sony A7 iv, was wanting a wide angle as I am doing more landscape and with a trip to the Arctic upcoming.I tested a number of wide angle options and the 16mm, 18mm, 200mm, just did not quite do it.The 12mm at the bottom end of the range is incredible.I have regularly wanted to photograph landscape and building when I simply cannot get far enough back, this lens does it.Also for wide landscape it works well.

I have rented from LR before and am dissappointed with my latest rental. I took a bucket list trip to Iceland for 17 days and rented a lens to capture the amazying scenery.I use a Sony A7 III and the Sony FE 12-24mm f/4 G lens was so loose when mounted, it jiggled. I was so concerned with either inadertantly disengaging the lens or it allowing particulates into my sensor, I used it extremely sparingly. I have 4 A7III bodies and tried it on all and it was still loose and unstable. I that I took less than 100 photos using it.I would like to think that this was an outlier since other lenses I rented are fine. Just really bummed out. I purchased this lens with very high hopes as I wanted a wide angle zoom lens with a pretty broad range for landscape photography. I had seen in several videos that the newer lenses for today's mirrorless cameras are crazy sharp.I'll start with the positives:- Very well constructed, heavy lens- Great wide angle focal range- Very fast zoomNegatives:- No manual focus switch. It does have a focus ring but I couldn't tell that it was doing anything when I rotated it.- Images look good at 25% on screen in Photoshop and Lightroom but when zoomed in to 100% very soft focus and not much detail.I sent this lens back and opted for a 14mm f/1.8 fixed focal length for my wide angle shots. Good Choice for Travel Photos

A wide-angle zoom lens, to me, is a specialized tool for travel photos. I purchased this 10-18mm /f4 for that purpose and I am not disappointed in it at all. It focuses quickly and accurately, having decent sharpness and contrast over the entire image, and it incorporates vibration reduction. In bright light the shutter speed will usually let me get sharp images without vibration reduction, but if I am traveling without a tripod it's good to know that I can still take shots at twilight or indoors that will be usable, I compared the images from this lens with others from my Zeiss 2,8/12mm Touit lens. The two lenses are similar only in focal length. The Zeiss is a prime lens without vibration reduction, and is a full stop faster. Great wide angle

This is one of my favorite lenses for my A6500. There arent many options for a wide angle zoom for APS-C e-mount and considering the price compared to a full frame lens at twice the price this produces some terrific quality photos.Its not without its caveats though. barrel distortion is pretty obvious and vignetting can get bad on occasion. lightroom RAW corrections help but it still shows somewhat. In my opinion this is to be expected for such a wide angle. The lens is pretty sharp for what its designed for but dont expect a 100% crop to be overly usable.the design is well done, its very compact and can even be stuffed into a big enough pocket if thats your thing. all functions are smooth and precise. After using this 10-18 mm lens for about half a year now, this one is a winner! My photos mainly record travel and events with kids, not attempts at serious art photography for display. Before getting this lens, I mostly shot from mild wide to mild telephoto, and was generally satisfied with that range. After purchasing this very wide zoom though, new possibilities opened up. Now It's easy to capture groups indoors without crowding them, or running out of space. Think birthday/holiday parties, etc. This lens is plenty fast enough to work with ambient light, especially considering the excellent image stabilization and the higher ISO settings that most cameras offer these days. If you need to use flash, put a real one on the hot shoe of your camera, otherwise you'll ... MoreAfter using this 10-18 mm lens for about half a year now, this one is a winner! The attached photo was taken at 4:20 PM, shooting into the afternoon sun, and taken at 10 mm focal length. Photo is straight off my a6000 camera, no processing or editing at all. For nearly any event or outing, I can cover pretty much any photo I want to take between this and Sony's 18-105mm power zoom lens. For my purposes, it's sharp, focuses quickly and well, and colors are deep and true. All in all, this Sony 10-18 super-wide has been a very nice surprise, finding its way onto the camera much more frequently than expected!

Im a nikon full frame guy, so to me switching to sony crop is a bit awkward, but Im doing this only for video capabilities of a6500 and the features it gives you with its native optics. From that perspective the setup is pretty good, despite the rolling shutter in 4k and the horrible pixel binning in FHD (shame on you Sony!), the video is quite good, AF on this lens is fast, responsive and precise, OSS is also amazing. The lens (with the camera) is very light (about 700 gm), the material feels premium and the design looks modern and trendy. So the video you get from this camera if quite good.Things get ugly when you switch to photo. Dont get me wrong, but Sony prices this lens as pro level, but it hardly can produce pro level image.Overall, its a good product, which is in conjunction with aps-c sensor is full of compromises. If its photography youre buying it for, think twice. For video, depending on the genre, this might be a good option.

I've been using this lens for the past 7 years with the A6000 and A6400. This is a fantastically small and lightweight lens that you can carry anywhere but at the cost of soft edges and poor performance for certain kinds of nighttime shooting, such as astrophotography. About 15-20% of each side is stretched out/distorted and soft, and you'll often have to stop down to f8+ to get them acceptable. The center is good, but nowhere near premium lenses. The Canon however was a burden to carry when hiking an average of 10-14 miles with a typical elevation gain of about 4000ft, or when being active/going out with the girlfriend. So I bought the A6000 with this lens and the 18-105. Being able to carry the small Sony with me everywhere with a range of 10-105mm means I have grabbed far more shots than I would have with just the Canon. I sold most of my Canon gear, but in the last 2 years I've been migrating back to more capable lenses such as the Tokina 11-20 f2.8 (which blows the Sony 10-18 away) and Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS + MC11 adapter whenever I can get away with heavier, bulkier gear. I just get better results with them and more shooting capability. I'll still keep the Sony 10-18 but reserve it's use for hiking, kayaking, and going out with the gf.

Very compact and very sharp ultra-wide zoom

The FE 12-24mm f/4 G replaced my beloved EF 14mm f/2.8L II. I started my move from Canon to Sony in August 2017. Even though my 14mm functioned very well on my Sony bodies, the adapter that I used didn't allow eye-detection and a few other focus modes that the G and GM Sony lenses can provide.I had tried out an EF 11-24mm f/4L, but went with the 14mm, because the zoom was incredibly bulky. One of my rules is, "if I can't carry it, I'm not buying it." I'm typically out with a 500/f4, 100-400mm, 24-70/f2.8 and now, the FE 12-24mm G. The 12-24mm is slightly larger than my prior 14mm, but not so much that it won't fit in a light bag. I carry the 500/f4, typically, on an a7RIII body and the 100-400mm on an a9. I'm prepared for almost anything with this rig.With expensive ultra-wide lenses, you hope that geometric distortion is minimal. I've found that my 12-24m competes with my much more expensive 14mm. Very little correction is required in RAW conversion, similar in performance to my much revered 14mm. I feel like I made no sacrifice by going with a zoom.In general, using ultra-wides, I find myself at one end or the other of the focal-length range. I find corners equally sharp at both 12mm and 24mm.Build quality seems high. All my other Sony lenses are G Master, which have more metal than this lens, but this lens seems very solid and well made.
