A true cinematic experience

I expected this to take a lot more effort than it did in order to set this up to achieve its full potential, as it turned out, it definitely did not. There are a few options that the system offers, in fact there's more than a few options, covering all connection methods and scenarios. You can be as simple as connecting a hdmi cable into the eARC or ARC connection on your TV, or as I did, connect devices through the hdmi 2.1 pass through ports, allowing the full 7.1 audio from my ps5.The sound output is quite magnificent, rich tones replicated with no lag, and even as a stand-alone unit, the A7000 manages to bounce sounds round the room in a very surreal manner, sound you swear are coming from above and behind you, yet you know they're being sent from right there ... MoreI expected this to take a lot more effort than it did in order to set this up to achieve its full potential, as it turned out, it definitely did not. Bass is well rounded with no overbearing nor distorted sounds, a nice thick bass matched with equally rich sounding miss and highs, each fired from its own style of speaker with no compression artifacts, nor any flat areas, the sound is quite simply, something you'd expect in a theatre, not a home. The soundbar supports a wide range of sound codecs, including Atmos, DTS, 3D Audio and many more, the built in Google cast, Alexa, LDAC Bluetooth connection, 3.5mm analogue and optical ports mean there's connection methods for any scenario, for most others there's also the Sony music centre mobile app which will connect your smartphone to the speaker via the internet, and can stream almost all other music apps via remote connection. With connection methods all over the place, a top line sound system and a very user friendly set up, it's very hard to find anything negative about this system, it's a very, very enjoyable experience all round, and would not think twice about recommending it to others.A very solid performer.

This system does this by the bucketful. My system comprises of the HT-A7000 soundbar, the SA-SW5 wireless Subwoofer and the SA-RS3S wireless rear speakers. The design of the components of this system are so sleek and modern, and by using a combination of quality materials ensures that this sound system looks the part in any environment it is being used.I found that setting up the system straightforward, as I was replacing an older Sony system it was like plug and play, with the technology finding and connecting all the additional speakers within seconds, running the sound field optimiser and I was ready to go (listen). The written instructions that come with the system comprehensive and will ensure that you are able to set the system up to ensure optimal use. This speaker system can be used with a range of devices connected in several ways e.g., Bluetooth, USB and WIFI.The HT-A7000 can be used as a standalone system and when used on its own it utilises its built-in technology to create a virtual surround sound system, individually for the space you are using it in, that is second to none. It has a combination of front speakers, tweeter speakers and bass speakers. Some of the speakers point upwards which you can really hear when you stand up in your room. The system has several pre-defined settings that you can select dependent upon what you are watching / listening to. E.G. Cinema, Music, Standard etc. These produce a great quality sound and are subtly different. The voice clarity of the spoken words through this sound system is the best I have heard. For me, the system produces the best sound when you use the Immersive AE function and let the software enhance the sound and its distribution to produce a wonderful, immersive, and entertaining viewing experience. This really is a fantastic sound system but for me, what elevates it to an ultimate system is the addition of the wireless sub-woofer speaker and the wireless surround sound speakers. Attaching these was so simple all you need is a power socket but no other cables to run around the room. These speakers were recognised and connected by the system within seconds of switching on.These powerful additional speakers have their own volume settings that can be adjusted to suit your taste, but I have to say the deep bass of the sub-woofer, the clarity of the surround speakers together with the combination of sounds from the HT-A7000 sound bar really do make the experience totally immersive and the best I have heard. For me watching movies at home is now as close as it can be to watching them at the cinema. Whilst watching a movie, I thought at one point I had a water leak running down the inside of my wall only to realise the sound of running water was in the movie coming through the speaker system. I love it.This sound system looks great and sounds even better, the only tiny disappointment is the quality of the remote-control unit, I would like to see the cover being a bit more substantive, that would complement the other materials used, possibly even a form of metal.Would I recommend this product? Yes, absolutely without hesitation. The quality and clarity of the sound is fantastic, the set up so straightforward. For me, the ultimate immersive experience is when you use the HT-A7000 with the Sony wireless sub-woofer and surround sound speakers.

I tried a cheaper soundbar (not a Sony) but wasn’t totally happy with the sound. As with most things you get what you pay for, and I cannot exaggerate what a difference this soundbar has made to my enjoyment in watching TV and listening to my record collection via Airplay, Bluetooth or USB. The quality of sound is phenomenal especially when using the ‘immersive’ function. I don’t play loud music as I’ve got neighbours but I don’t have to in order to enjoy every little nuance of sound coming from this soundbar. Yes, it’s not cheap, but worth every penny. Great for a small room or a large hall. Well done Sony.

Replaced Bose 700 sound bar with this & what a difference! The sound is very impressive particularly playing PS5 and watching films, but also it is noticeably more immersive (using this function and using standard) when listening to Spotify. So many settings to choose from to suit what you are watching. Very impressed and pairs nicely with our 55 Sony Bravia QD OLED XR XR55A95K (2022) tv (which I also recommend). This speaker has a built in subwoofer and speakers on the top of the unit which when you play a game like Battlefield, you feel like you are actually on the field or watching a nature programme, the animal is very much in the room with you! It is a beast of a sound bar and I recommend measuring beforehand but you won't be disappointed!

Great Sound - Best Used With A Sub & Surrounds

The bigger sub is a fantastic partnership with the sound bar and whilst it'll empty your bank account, you won't regret it. The sub tends to walk around the room during bass heavy movies, so get ready to find a way of keeping it secure. The only problem I've experienced is that the rear speakers sometime disconnect from the sound bar and I have to manually reconnect them. Much has been written about this in forums and I hope it's a simple software update. The phone app is OK, but not as nice as the Sonos one. Finally, it would be really nice if Sony allowed me to tweak the bass and treble. I'm sure there's a really complicated algorithm that's taking care of this, but everyone has slight different preferences in sound.

As you can see in the picture attached, PS5 output Dolby sound (can be se to output LPCM as well) + Vertical Surround Engine, which means the sound bar will produce vertical surround sound as in Atmos encoded movies.I don't use any subwoofer as the bass i find is loud enough for my smallish living room, however i will add SA-RS5 surround speaker as soon it goes on sale.Overall it is a perfect soundbar in my opinion.

8 December 2022

Pros: Sounds good with movies and games, but not really fit for music or anything like that. The surround effects are about as good as when you wear stereo headphones with surround virtualisation, when using a soundbar just by itself without the rears and sub and a TV with centre channel screen. The Atmos effects are there but with most movies and things available on streaming services you will barely hear them sadly (because of the movies), and with games the surround feels the sounds from behind are actually as far back as you are. Like mentioned, it's comparable to the effect with stereo headphones. But the possibility to expand the system over time and buy the soundbar one year, then the rears next year, then a sub next year, then a time for a new TV will come ... MorePros: Sounds good with movies and games, but not really fit for music or anything like that. But the possibility to expand the system over time and buy the soundbar one year, then the rears next year, then a sub next year, then a time for a new TV will come as well - it's future proofing it and adding greatly to the value and it's definitely the plan that I will be following over the next few years. Those improve things exponentially. The rears will add extra upfiring speakers for better atmos, listen to each other and the soundbar for better room correction (do NOT confuse with room compensation for a better sound for music like some do, it's for the spatial effects) and better surround coming from actually behind you, the sub and the centre will take the load off with certain frequencies for the soundbar not to be bloated with and will result in much clearer cut of the fragment of the spectrum it will be able to focus in, when the bass and the centre are delegated to the sub and the TV screen. A massive selling point for me. Once the full setup is there, all the spatial effects are just as good as money can get as of winter 2022, like in special 3D dolby atmos surround headphones, but better cause you can feel it with your entire body.Cons: Very expensive for what it is on its own without the full setup. At least when you use just the soundbar by its own, I'd argue the experience it provides is not worth the price, so if you are NOT planning on ever buying the rears, sub and a TV with the centre channel screen, just buy a cheaper soundbar. It NEEDS those if you want it as a long term solution. That being said, the fact that you don't need to buy them all at the same time is great, just bear in mind that buying this thing makes sense ONLY if you are SURE you will be getting the rears and the rest over time to have a complete setup. If you don't plan on investing in the full setup you're just wasting money cause you are not giving it a chance to shine what it can do, with the things that make it so expensive. if you don't want a full setup, you will get a comparable experience for much, much cheaper - even from Sony themselves. Also, it's not really mind-blowing for listening to music - which I was aware of that this is not the purpose of this thing at all, but I've seen a lot of people not understanding this concept (including my wife, lol) hence I need to mention it. It's for movies and games. It's for the spatial effects with a pleasant sound, it's not active studio monitors with you sitting in a sweet spot in a properly shaped room with appropriate sound dampers and so on. It's for multimedia entertainment in the living room, not audiophile experiences. It's sufficient to play music to have a house party, but the musical experience won't blow your guests' minds. Movies and games won't either without the full setup, but once you have the full setup - they absolutely will.

Not Impressed with the sound Quality.

Sony really needs to step up with their game especially with the price tag of ht-a7000 soundbar they are charging. I have been using Bose sound bar 900, since a year and sound of that bar is so precise and clear even in high volume.(for both movies and music). Sony HT-At7000 sound bar started crackling noise around volume level 45 in just a regular music. not even a dolby atmos movie audio. I personally feel, this bar is only for movies ,not for music. With this price tag i would expect all in one with no imperfections! Note : Speaker grill in the bar is so flimsy and very easily gets dents scratches!. Regards,
