Sony Marvel's Spider-Man PS4 Game

Graphics are a lot better than the original game. I bought it to add to my Marvel game library and to see how good it COULD look with my RTX3090 on my i7-13700 system. Guardians of the galaxy is a MUCH better game overall. Only 3 stars because gameplay is the same as the original (lackluster missions that are rather linear). Better on a controller which is disappointing for a PC game (I prefer mouse and keyboard). Same jump, dodge, punch, kick moves over and over. Not multiplayer. Was a better deal on Fanatical than Steam ($40 vs $49) but if I would have known the ONLY improvement was the graphics settings I wouldn't have paid over $20.

Marvel's Spider-Man is one of the best games I have ever played, there are so many things that I enjoyed here that I wish I could play it all over again. It is a beautiful tribute to one of my favorite characters of all time. The way Insomniac crafted this game shows how passionate and dedicated the studio was to these characters and universe. The gameplay is very engaging. Even when you are doing nothing, it is insanely fun to swing around the New York skyscrapers. This is one of those games that take advantage of the full immersion of the PS4 and does not become repetitive. The story and city of New York are loyal to the comics and all iterations of Spidey. At points, It felt a lot like playing a movie, especially with how great the cutscenes and writing were. Speaking of movies, I absolutely loved using the Tom Holland suits, although if you are more of a fan of another interpretation of Spider-Man, there is probably an option for that. I loved that they included dozens of cosmetic options for Spidey. Letting you craft you own story to a certain extent. I think the demon storyline goes on for way too long. I was expecting more of a focus on classic Spidey villains. That is why I thought the second half of the game was perfect. Battling the Sinister Six is everything I ever wanted from a Spider-Man experience. I thought that this interpretation of the classic characters was very well done. This includes secondaries such as Mary Jane, Aunt May, Miles Morales among others. There were all likeable and leave you wanting to see more of them. The DLCs are 100% worth it. They are a great expansion that continues the main story from the game. Contrary to most game DLCs, they do not feel like filler, the characters are expanded upon and transformed in very drastic ways. I even thought at points that The City That Never Sleeps storyline was even better than the main game's story. Silver Sable and Black Cat have become two of my favorite characters. Although I wish to see more of them in a sequel, the Spider-Man universe is so big that I can't wait to see what new heroes and villains Insomniac studios introduces in the future. This game did an amazing job with Peter Parker's story. It leaves so much space for future stories, while having a clean conclusion on its own. I can't wait to be a part of this universe again when the Miles Morales game drops later this year

The larger story based events are varied but sometimes feel a little bit intrusive. Combat especially can feel a bit of a chore at first, improving substantially as you level up Spider-man with new gadgets and abilities. This makes the first major story event and boss fight a little tougher that maybe is ideal at higher difficulties.Thankfully the game provides quite and extensive and welcome number of options for less able gamers, subtitle sizes, screen overlays, difficulty options and even options to allow the removal of challenging puzzle mechanics and qte's providing one of the most inclusive game experiences that I think iv'e ever seen.When the game hits it's high points it hits the highest most joyous of mountainous peaks, pick it up if you're even a fringe fan of marvel comics and a playstation4 owner.

Web-slinging feel very natural once you get the hang of it, and way better than the Spider-man 2 game as you can more manual control. You have to time your button presses to shoot out webs, calculate airtime, forward thrust and momentum. It controls are very seamless once you get used to it. Combat is very fast paced. Very similar to the Batman Arkham games with it's attack, dodge (when you get spider sense) mechanic, but more room to maneuver around compared to batman due to Spider-man having more agility, speed and ability to web swing. -Options for combat are: Melee Attacks Web based attacks Dodge Web Gadgets: use of elemental webbing and/or web bombs/traps. Combat is very fast, responsive and will not overwhelm you with options as these abilities will unlock gradually as you progress. It's also not a button masher as some abilities require you to time button presses or hold buttons for few seconds during combos. -Upgrade System There are 2 ways to upgrade Spider-man: leveling up and crafting items. There are 3 upgrade trees you can select from: Innovator: tactical skills Defender: Melee combat based Web-sling: Jump around/dodge better during combat, also can use in overworld/chase sequence mini-games -Crafting. You can upgrade your suit and make gadgets by collecting in-game tokens by doing side objectives -There are 27 suits to collect. To unlock suits to craft, you have to be a certain level (and have materials) or complete certain objectives. If you 100% all side objectives you get this half naked spider-man suit where he's just in his underwear and a Spider-man mask. Last level unlock suit is at level 50. If you pre-order the game; the Spiderpunk suit, for example is unlocked from the get-go instead of having to wait till you reach level 16. There are 3 empty spaces for 3 additional suits. I assume it'll be included in the 3 planned story DLC for the game. -Other Gameplay To change up the pace a bit; you also play as Mary Jane, where you have to sneak around enemies to escape certain areas. There's also QTE (quick time events) during cinematic sequences Taskmaster acts like the Riddler in the Batman Arkham games giving you various side quests around the map before you face him Game takes around 15-20 hours to complete depending on your skill and how fast you intend to rush through the main story campaign. To collect everything and get platinum trophy it can take upwards to 40 hours. --Graphics Game looks very good, especially on the PS4 Pro where Spider-man's suit and puddles stand out more compared to the regular PS4. Whatever format you play it on, the game looks amazing. Has very good draw distance, and cinematic cutscenes. If you are nitpicky and walk up to individualized objects, the textures may be off a bit. Seeing the fast paced nature of the game, you most likely not have time to look around the over world anyway. Regardless, one of the best looking PS4 games to date Voice acting is also very good. Like the banter between Peter and Mary Jane. Also get some fun laughs when you use the Quips (tell jokes to enemies) ability for the Comic Spider-man suit. Overall, had a blast playing this game. If you're a fan of Spider-man or super hero games in general; it's a must buy.

Having billionaire Batman with that kind of gear makes sense. Having Spider-Man who has getting evicted because he can't cover the rent as part of the game, however, makes no sense at all. Sure this is a Peter Parker who's been a superhero for eight years but nothing is mentioned about him having gotten help from Ironman or the Avengers with his gear. You can get both the movie and comic versions of the Iron Spider costume (and every other movie costume) but no mention of getting them from Stark).The game includes several nod's to other Marvel heroes too. You can visit the Avengers tower, Alias investigations or Strange's Sanctum in game (At least the outside of them). There's even a nod toward a certain blind lawyer in H-ll's Kitchen. However while you can use Spidey's Future Foundation and Bombastic Bag Man costumes there's no other sign of the Baxter Building or Fantastic Four. As the plot of the game turns New York in to a literal war zone having of the rest of Marvels NYC heroes in the background leaves you wondering why none of them are doing anything about it.It's a great game and ton's of fun to play. However, there are so many elements that seems to be included because they seem cool without consideration for how much sense they make to the story.

Best Spidey game ever made.

It's a great AAA game that relies on old open world systems but also has a good paced story and then some extra DLC included with extend the game a bit. The gameplay is very good. Best swing mechanics of any Spiderman game ever. Takes a bit from what made the Arkham Batman games so good and applies it well to Spiderman. Lots of different spidey suits to were as well! But no venom suit! It's one of the best superhero games you can play.

Best superhero video game to date!

This is the only superhero game I've played in which I actually felt like I was the main hero.The controls for Spiderman are so fluid, they become second nature on your Dualshock controller after a while. It's easy to do various Spidey moves on the fly and chain them together to look uber fancy.The graphics are fantastic and is among the best I've seen on the PS4. Environment is lively and surroundings and buildings in the fake Manhattan are jaw-dropping gorgeous.As a fan of the comic book, this game's story didn't seem boring and brought new elements to the plots.There's also a Game+ after you beat the game which adds to the replay value.The Game of the Year edition comes with all of the DLCs which prolong the adventure and story.

Great Sandbox Fun as Spider-Man

I spent hours playing this game and nothing can match swinging around New York as Spider-Man. The boss battles are great fun too and keep the player in the fun. This is the ultimate Spider-Man experience. This is also incredibly easy to jump into and does not leave the Spider-Man new comers in the dark.I really loved the suits too as this game gives the player move than enough suits to be your favourite Spider-Man.I really liked the suit form the first Amazing Spider-Man movie and it’s available in the game.The cutscenes really show off the detail put into this game. There is also a patch available for PS5 which only serves to make this game look superb.This is a love letter to super hero games and acts as a thank you to all of us Spider-Man fans.

Cutscenes are consistently entertaining and often exciting, and the climax of the game gave me exactly what I hoped for but didn't expected to get.Traversal proves to be another huge plus in Spidey's arsenal. While fast-travel options appear after a few story missions, swinging solo across the city and doing aerial acrobatics never gets old. Fighting, on the other hand, can be somewhat frustrating as one often has to single-handedly fight off hordes of enemies but no more frustrating than similar games of this nature. Sometimes it feels like it makes no sense on whom Spider-Man decides to focus when the baddies surround him and start attacking, but that's how it goes. The game gives Spider-man plenty of gadgets and suit upgrades so that players should never feel at a COMPLETE disadvantage, and it's thrilling when a well-executed plan comes together. Although each gadget may be upgraded and each suit comes with its own unique power, some early gadgets and suits are so helpful that players may find themselves sticking to the same strategies throughout the majority of the game.The biggest drawback of the game is its repetitive gameplay. A lot of the side missions feel familiar, especially if you've played any of the Arkham series, and usually amount to fighting waves of bad guys, stealth takedowns, or traversal challenges. Early side missions force Spider-man to collect backpacks or activate towers so that he can access a map of Manhattan... as though SPIDER-MAN would need a MAP of Manhattan? The boss battles typically amount to figuring out a pattern and then repeating that pattern until the next section of the boss battle. Again, this has a familiar feel, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but also doesn't feel like it is adding anything new to the genre.Another drawback (at least for some) will be its relatively short length, especially when compared to similar games like Arkham Knight or Horizon: Zero Dawn, which offer a bit more bang for the buck. Serious gamers will be able to get through this game in a weekend (or less, depending on how long you play it) and most casual gamers will not need more than a couple of weeks.Spider-Man is fun, but it is also familiar-feeling and a little short. Fans of Spider-Man will most likely love it (I sure did!), and the game is worth the price for the story and how well it nails the feel of being an amazing spider-person. Excelsior!

I always found any past Spidey games were a novelty for a short space of time, swinging through the city was awsome but then you lost interest in the overall game and probably never really played it that much or completed it.This game has that same instant appeal with a caveat,,,,, it's also a solid overall game with great mechanics, brilliant graphics even on entry PS4 and a story that plays out like a modern Marvel movie.The characters have depth and a likeability that makes you care and want to know more.
