I have had previous iterations of Sony's underwater housing for cybershot cameras such as the MPK-WEB. I find this a vast improvement. The controls are well spaced and intuitive, giving full access to all the cameras features. The additional locking mechanism on the also side ensures no chance of inadvertently opening the back door while in use. I cant wait to try it out on our next adventure!!

I shoot underwater for a living, this product is incredible. Affordable, yet outperforms many other waterhousings. Although it is not made for the RX100vii as the zoom stops at 68mm as the housing is not big enough. This is not an issue, as you would almost never use the zoom function in the water.

I used it for a week snorkeling in Hawaii. No problems. Overall good experience.Need to set the display brightness to "Sunny day".I used Shutter priority mode to make sure shutter speed is at least 1/250 or faster.

Durable and reliable case for RX100 IV

Just finished a trip to the Caribbean using this housing and it performed very well. The first thing you'll notice is just how bulky it is. I was more used to the slim fit of Canon's underwater housings for their Digital Elph line of pocket shooters. Sony's unit must make room for the full throw of the 70mm (equiv.) zoom lens, a mechanism to turn the control ring around the lens, and flexibility to fit all five RX100 models. Once you get over the size, you'll appreciate the amount of control you have over the unit. You'll have access to nearly every button and lever on the camera, including the control ring. About the only functionality you'll lose is the ability to spin the click wheel in the lower right of back controls. But, you can still operate that wheel as a 4-way D-pad with 4 dedicated buttons. In terms of usability, size does play a factor. The bulk might make one-handed operation tricky for folks with small hands. It will definitely consume the use of one hand entirely; you can't just let it dangle from your wrist. So, climbing a ladder back onto a boat, managing your flippers and snorkel, etc. can be a challenge. I usually had to hand my camera off at that point. Once in the water, the weight of the housing is balanced nicely by its buoyancy. It's pretty easy to keep it pointed at a target, even one-handed. If you let go of it, it will float, but it's not fighting you while trying to shoot. Still, you'll need 2 hands to keep it steady for video, especially with any kind of current. My only wish is that the camera itself had a higher top end on LCD screen brightness. It was the first thing I had to dig through the settings on once underwater. And, it only goes up 2 levels, which was still a challenge depending on the angle of sunlight. As such, I never made use of control ring and relied solely on full auto mode. All in all, I made out with some great photos and HD/4K video. And had the peace of mind and confidence to take a $900 camera underwater

Exceeds expectations
21 August 2022

I bought this housing because I wanted to use a good compact Sony camera to capture underwater wildlife. I was frustrated with the GoPro and unimpressive still photos. The housing allows use of all buttons on the camera and functions that allow quality pictures underwater. I have included pictures from my first time use in Kona Hawaii. Make your own conclusions from my experience. I highly recommend this housing.

Leak issue but NOT mine
19 May 2020

I know there are lots of rumor of this product for leaking. But thankfuly not mine. If you take care of O-ring with silicone grease properly, this should not be an issue. I know there are more high-end product from Nauticam or Ikelite but this one does its job for the cheaper price.

Read if you're comparing between this and ikelite
28 August 2017

I have had the chance to try this with extra flash light . The results are ok . They said you can use all the features of the camera however that's not true. The selection wheel (most important thing) can't be used. Therefore you can't shoot manual as u can't change the shutter speed or aperture. You can use the camera on shutter priority . Or auto or Aperture . Yet this is still good for videos. It floats in salty water. And you can use the flash to trigger other flashes. I do think this is still better than ikelite housing as the other can't be used to trigger flashes without fiber cords.

Solid, reliable housing but a bit bulkier that it should be
7 January 2017

I used it on my last week's diving trip. All basics worked well - good controls, did not fog - and most importantly did not leak. The housing comes with multiple inserts and rings for various RX100 models - including mine M5 which fit perfectly. All buttons seems to work, shutter is large and easy to access. Pros: - No leaks, all buttons align and work well. - The 65mm port - I installed a filter that can be easily pushed away when on surface. Far easier way to fix colors than photo postprocessing on computer. - Shoe - I added a simple lume cube light on it, it came handy when passing a dark portion of a wreck in 60ft. Cons: - It is bulky, with a lot of void space inside. Compared to several previous housings I owned (all Canon) this one is much larger than it could ... MoreI used it on my last week's diving trip. Compared to several previous housings I owned (all Canon) this one is much larger than it could be which beats the purpose of using very compact RX100 camera. Clearly Sony has one-size-fits-all housing and just throws more inserts to match various models. Canon seems to be way ahead of Sony in precisely fitting housings to each camera. Nevertheless the combination of this housing and RX100 M5 yields incredible underwater photos, especially with 65mm red filter.

The power button DOES work
21 May 2017

Unlike some of the reviewers have stated, the power button on the housing is functional. The problem is that it's easy to setup wrong when putting the housing together. The slot in the rubber piece that slips over the plastic peg is about twice the width of the peg itself. In order for it to work, you need to insert the peg on the right side of the rubber piece's slot. If you insert it to the left or the center, the nub on the rubber piece won't be able to make contact with the RX100's power button.

Works very well, wish it were a little smaller
22 June 2019

The other reviews were very helpful. I found this housing worked very well and was not hard to use underwater. It does float. I would like it more if it were smaller. Overall it wasn't a bad size to use for boat dives and snorkeling. The pics are pretty good and its nice to be able to zoom. I use the RX100 V for faster lens but still have a lot of blurry images. The flash didn't seem to help but may be good for deeper dives. I wish there were an o-ring service kit or even an option to buy the main o-ring for a spare.
