Excellent DAP player with superior sound quality

Very happy with this purchase. The hardware quality is excellent. The sound quality, battery life and screen are all very good. The Android OS could use some improvements as it isn’t quite as responsive as on my phone. I have used it so far with 4 different headphones all with great results. Added a 512GB microSD card for extra storage.

Excellent device

This thing sounds incredible. Ease of use. Battery is a step up from Sony's 500 series, but high res tracks devour juice-- no getting around it. This Japanese version has no pesty volume lock so it can drive high reasonably high impedence headphones. Device had phone jack bumpers intact, so it was clearly not a "reused" model.

Great HIFI device for high definition digital music.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Able to load my own music and download HIFI music from streaming platform. Sounds great and easy to use. No volume limit like in the american devices.

Great Quality Player
2 April 2023

I owned the ZX-507 previously & this is a big improvement. It has a new solid heavy feel & a larger screen. Not light or for the gym - that would be the A306. For playing music, Sony players are the best, far better than compared to the Astell & Kern I had previously. Even streaming music sounds better with the upscaling & interface is faster.VolumeA few comments were posted about the volume, but I haven't experienced any issues. I know that the AVLS volume limiter is a checkbox in the settings, but I turned that off. I powered the MDR-Z7M2 70MM headphones but I had to turn volume to 90%, so it works better with the 40mm (or bluetooth headphone)BatteryI ate through the battery & saw that it was that I had Youtube Music & the screen on. Low volume. Do not buy!
3 September 2023

This "updated" model does not even drive the same headphones I used for my old NW-A105: ATH-AP2000Ti, which has only 44 ohms impedance! The only reason for upgrading was to be able to use balanced cable and better headphones, like Sennheiser HD 650 (300 ohms). Why would somebody pay more to buy a bigger device, that does less?? Sony, can you please recall this or upgrade software? I heard that there are some variants that allow for high gain but mine does not have that...

Needs more power
27 August 2023

The volume output is way too low to enjoy music. I tried rolling IEMs, I used balanced headphones and regular ones, and I even tried the USB out with a dongle. The results were the same. Apparently certain regions get the hardware for more power but not here in the US, and that really sucks because I like the device but I will be returning this and I’ll look for another player to suit my needs.

Sony remaster its walkman series with NW-ZX507. Is it for Music lovers in 2020?
19 May 2020

Sony Walkman NW-ZX507:The Walkman look cute and it feels good in hand. Size is convenient to slide in pocket. US versions are Silver only and it is attractive. Still, I would have preferred Black if available.Sound Quality:I like the sound quality very much. The sound is clear and bass is deep and enjoyable. I am upgrading from Sony WM-ZX2 and there is big difference. The volume 85 is loud enough and my volume during use varies between 65 to 95 at different times. For 3.5mm, I am having Sony WH-1000XM3. For 4.4mm balanced, I am having Sony XBA-4 mod to balanced 4.4mm jack for now, untill I go for a balanced headphone. ZX507 US version are enabled with High gain output settings for both 3.5mm &4.4mm to turn On or Off to use if anyone has headphone that demands. ... MoreSony Walkman NW-ZX507:The Walkman look cute and it feels good in hand. ZX507 US version are enabled with High gain output settings for both 3.5mm &4.4mm to turn On or Off to use if anyone has headphone that demands. There is recommendation from sony to burn for 200hrs on each output for the hardware to operate with best sound processing.Tried all different sounds settings. The Direct Mode ON sounds the Same as Direct mode OFF with all the sound settings OFF (EQ, DSEE, DC, Dynamic norm, Vinyl Process).EQ gain is responsive for each frequency range. To give a touch of bass in music, I increase the 33Hz gain and combining it with DC phase Linearizer to Type A Low for WH-1000XM3 with Noise cancelling OFF and Ambient Sound OFF and enjoy deep bass. I use DSEE HX for while playback mp3'sSystem:The Android OS is great for streaming apps.. Apps and UI responds fast. I feel, the inbuilt memory (~49GB available for user) is less. I have extended with 128GB microsd for now.The Walkman keys are handy. The button controls are applicable automatically for the currently playing music app and good response to clicks. It would have been great if there is a dedicated hardware key for toggling sound settings and also a key to add currently playing music to favorite in whatever app it is running.Battery:The Walkman charges from 0% to 100% in approx 1hr 40 minutes. I am not sure why the specific says 6.5hours to full charge. The Walkman auto power ON when connecting charger and unavoidable.I did some Android battery saving tricks like enable battery saver, disable location, disable auto sync, Airplane mode, force stop and Disable apps that I felt not required and safe to do disable etcI used 3.5mm connection to WH-1000XM3 active mode and played 320kbps mp3 files, volume set at 70% and Direct sound ON. I started playback at 100% and after 9.5 hours I find it left with 55% of battery that would give around 20 hours of continuous playback. Also using balanced 4.4mm it drained 32% for 6.5 hours that would again give around 20 hours of playbackI tried multiple playback trials using mp3(320kbps), FLAC (16bit 44kHz), HiRes(24bit 96kHz) with 3.5mm & 4.4mm and the play back time varies between 16hours to 20 hours for my usage depending on sound settings. Direct Sound On gives the best battery time.Using Spotify with wifi On, consumes 13 to 16% per hour. Using Tidal with Hifi or Master audio streaming with wifi On, consumes 12 to 14% battery per hour.Playback of downloaded music offline from Tidal App consumes around 10% of battery per hour, so we can get a max of 9 hoursJust walkman standby drains approx 20% per 24hours. So be sure to set the auto power off setting or power off the walkman while you know you are not going to use it in next 3 hours.Booting the walkman to Android Safemode, saves additional battery while using walkman app and it will be useful sometimes while outdoorsI think battery constraints could be over come with Powerbank or If any manufacturer can design a protective case with inbuilt power bank for the walkman it would be a little handy and will make sense for 'portable' music player. What I liked:-Sound quality is Awesome-Power of Android and wifi connectivity to stream.-Download music online in streaming apps and playback when offline-Walkman looks and feels good in hand-Walkman Boot time is real fast-I find the battery life as advertised in specs for walkman app playback with some Android battery optimization-USB-C for charge and Data Transfer-Charging time is much faster than advertised-Auto power off setting is helpfulWhat could be better:-Battery could be better. After paying that much for a walkman users needs to worry about battery drain especially when streaming or offline playback with music streaming apps-No Leather protective case. It would have been better if included for that price-The microsd card slot is flimsy and look like will get damaged if used frequently to swap sdcard-Could be better if there is hardware key or software key mapping for toggling sound settings. Atleast for direct sound ON / OFF-Location of charging USB-C port on sideDespite shortcomings, the Walkman sound quality steps up and sound great that's more important and I certainly recommend the Sony Walkman NW-ZX507 for Music Lovers

Volume Issue, otherwise great device
15 March 2023

The volume limitation is pretty infuriating for such an otherwise great device. Not that i like very loud music-i do not. But in some cases i do want just a bit more volume than i can get here so i think the limit is set too low. I would recommend getting a different version instead of this one, or a completely different device instead. However, after listening for a week or so, i find i really do like the sound, smooth user experience, and options that come in the music player app, and i have decided to keep it even though its completely unusable with some of my headphones-especially my open back hd560s's. i would say its probably made only for use with in-ear monitors (it really does sound great with my Shure SE535's) and only if you use in reasonably quiet ... MoreThe volume limitation is pretty infuriating for such an otherwise great device. Stupid limitations from Sony for such an expensive device, especially when other players don't have these limitations, but hopefully they will send out a software update sometime to address it.side note, read the manual as sony didnt help when i contacted them to ask if there were any settings that could help increase volume. i found 2 that did help a little. 1 setting in the menu lets you change the db level from -3 to 0, and another allows you to adjust the device so that music played through sources other than the sony music player will not be lowered-that will at elast bring your tidal or apple music up to the same level. i can't imagine why anyone would ever use that setting on this player with the volume issues, but its set lower from factory and needs to be adjusted.

Walkman Nostalgia done right
14 March 2023

Portable DAP that also works as a USB DAC. Great physical controls reminiscent of the Sony Walkman of old, even has a tape UI for when you are feeling nostalgic. Since this is an Android based player, apps like Spotify, Tidal or Apple Music work for streaming your favorite Lossless tracks. I would use this as a a DAP only and not try to use it as a media consumption device. Sure YouTube is preloaded on it, but I'm sure any modern phone will have better colors/brightness and screen. If you are concerned that the UI is slow, don't be. Just turn off the animations in your settings and you are good to go. This is the Japanese version of the ZX700. Wanted a quality music player , Got wannabe phone.
27 May 2023

I purchased this because of the great experience I had with the sony NWA 45 player. The ZX707 is not what I expected. The android operating system is not geared towards high quality music, but instead wants to give you your Email, messages, connections to your phone, news, ect. The interface with the XD card is cumbersome at best. Compatibility is an issue with my vehicle which is only 4 years old you can not plug the usb into the Silverado my link system it will not communicate. At this price point I expected better.
